Happy Friday! Today I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness. There’s no set topic this week so it’s the perfect opportunity to discuss my 5 favorite workout DVDs!
Truth be told, I do not own too many workout DVDs. I’m very selective about the ones I purchase because let’s face it, the DVD needs to be great for me to want to use it over and over again. Luckily I have a lot of variety in my DVD arsenal!
Bob Harper Kettlebell Cardio Shred
This DVD offers almost a full hour of different kettle bell and cardio exercises. I would often have to stop this DVD half way to take a break. It’s pretty intense!
IronStrength Workout for Runners
If you’re looking for a total body workout, this is the DVD for you. It offers 4 different workouts (the main workout + 3 bonus workouts). The main workout is 50 minutes and it is recommended to be completed twice a week. One of the bonus workouts is the IronStrength Glute Blaster and it’s awesome! Painful, but awesome.
I love this DVD because of the 3-2-1 intervals (it mirrors HIIT). Not only will you get your sweat on, but the workouts are only 20 minutes long. This is perfect for when you are pressed for time, but want an intense workout.
Runner’s World 10-Minute Cross-Training for Runners
Who doesn’t have 10 minutes to devote to cross training? This is a new DVD in my collection as I just received it for Christmas but I am already loving it. This DVD features five 10-minute post-run workouts that are designed to improve you core, mobility, gluten, hp, arm and stability performance.
Runner’s World Yoga for Runners
I’ve mentioned this DVD a few times before because I really like it! As I’m getting into Yoga this year, this DVD is perfect for me. The main workout is 50 minutes long, but then there are 3 bonus workouts – Yoga for Beginners, Yoga for Recovery and Yoga for Core Strength. As an added bonus, this DVD comes with a Yoga block and strap, two essentials for beginners!
Do you have any favorite workout DVDs?
Harry@Good health says
I love Jillian Michaels DVD. It helps me a lot when I want to lose weight. It works perfectly for me. I will try other DVDs that you recommend. Thanks!
kookyrunner says
Same here! I get the most sweat burn with the Jillian Michaels DVDs
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I don’t have any of these, but I”m going to look into that Yoga for Runners DVD!
kookyrunner says
It’s really good and I like that it offere 4 different yoga workouts!
Kimberly Hatting says
That yoga DVD has my interest! I don’t really do much for DVD workouts, but I have done the P90X series (and there’s actually a yoga workout in the set….but it’s 90 minutes long).
kookyrunner says
I never had the courage to try the P90x workout DVDs, lol
Marsha says
I might need to check out the Runner’s World 10 minute video. Sounds like what I need. I’m having some glute and hamstring issues that the doc said I need to work on strengthening glutes and hips!
kookyrunner says
i think that DVD would really help with your glutes and hamstring. I have weak hips/glutes and it’s really helping me.
Coco says
I’m too impatient for DVDs – I hate the loading time! That said, I do like my 30-Day Shred and I have a Bob Harper Pure Burn Super Strength DVD that’s awesome.
kookyrunner says
I tend to get a little impatient and I wish I could access the videos online – it would make things a little easier!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
you just reminded me that I have that yoga for runners somewhere!
kookyrunner says
LOL glad my blog prompted that for you!
Gina says
The cross training for runners DVD seems great. Alas, I don’t have a DVD player – just a PS3 so I’d have to use it in the living room and that’s not all that convenient. I’ve never actually used a workout DVD before but I think they are pretty darn popular – may have to just move the PS3 to a better location in the house.
kookyrunner says
I do wish that I could access these DVDs online because it would make life a lot easier, especially when I’m not home! lol
Annmarie says
I am realllly bad at yoga but I think I am going to check out that yoga DVD! Thanks for sharing!
kookyrunner says
No problem. I hope you enjoy the DVD 🙂
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
At home workouts are such a great option for a variety of reasons, including when the weather is really bad and you just don’t want to leave the comfort of your house.
kookyrunner says
Definitely! Who wants to leave the house when it’s snowing? lol
Lesley says
I have the Iron Strength workout, and while I don’t do it often, when I do, it’s a great workout and I am sore afterwards. I also have quite a few 10-minute workout DVDs for strength and add on at least 2 workouts, maybe 3.
kookyrunner says
I’m also sore after that DVD workout!
vicki says
I had been considering the yoga for runners and iron strength… good to know they are recommended!
kookyrunner says
Let me know if you pick them up!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
I love watching Bob harper train people on TV but i’ve never done nay of his videos!
kookyrunner says
He’s just as hard on the DVD as he is on TV!
Darlene says
Believe it or not I don’t have any workout DVDs.
Some of those are tempting since I don’t go to the gym.
kookyrunner says
I can understand why because everything is online now!
Anna @ Piper's Run says
I love the IronStrength workout! I have his book but not the DVD and am now wanting to buy his most recent DVD. I also have a handful of Jillian Michael’s DVD’s and love them!
kookyrunner says
I don’t have the ItonStrength book but I should probably pick that up!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
My name is Judy & I’m a DVD junkie. And online fitness program junkie. I can’t help myself.
Right now I’m working my way through some of Pahla B’s workouts. I like Iron Strength, but I do the shorter workout. 50 minutes is a long time!
kookyrunner says
I agree – sometimes I do a workout after a run so I love the DVDs that offer workouts 30 minutes or shorter.
Mary Beth Jackson says
I am not a big DVD person but I got my new ActivMotion bar and it came with 4 DVD’s- so I am learning!
kookyrunner says
Marcia mentioned that her ActivMotion bar came with DVDs too – I really need to heck that out!
Renee says
I cannot for the life of me workout at home. Only on my stationary bike and occasionally with my kettle bells if I’m feeling desperate!
kookyrunner says
It was hard for me at first but not I can do it. It took a long time though!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I don’t do any workout videos but… I used to do Tae Bo all the time! I had them on VHS! But I can actually find those exact VHS videos on youtube now. They’re very grainy. 🙂 I used to watch The Biggest Loser so I really like Bob and Jillian!
kookyrunner says
I did Tae Bo back in the day and it was crazy hard!!
Sherry says
Seems like a great list of DVDs! 10 minute cross training would be nice post run and I keep saying I need to do more yoga. The yoga for runners sounds good too.
kookyrunner says
Definitely. I like the 10 minute cross training because it’s only 10 minutes – no excuse for me NOT to get it in after my run.
Jenn says
i used to do 30 Day Shred religiously, but somehow I’ve misplaced it (or it ran away LOL). The Yoga for Runners sounds pretty good too.
kookyrunner says
LOL. My DVDs “run away” sometimes too
Angela @marathonsandmotivation.com says
These all look great! I go through phases where I use them, but it has been awhile, so I am pinning this to try a few.
kookyrunner says
Same for me. I go through times where I use them daily and then not so much, lol. I hope I was able to give you some good ideas ford DVDs to try!
Cassandra says
I might have to check out that cross training for runners DVD. I always like to get new perspectives on what’s good for cross training.
kookyrunner says
I like that DVD because the exercises aren’t too difficult so I can really follow along.
Toni says
These are great, I want to try iron strength!
kookyrunner says
I think it’s great for runners – hits all our “problem areas”!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
I have Iron Strength and Runners World yoga, but I have come to 2 sad realizations:
1. I hate yoga, I just cannot make myself like it.
2. I don’d do DVDs at home. I need to get out of the house and go to classes.
kookyrunner says
LOL, I don’t love Yoga but I know I need to do it. I hope that the more I do it, the more I will like it! I’ll admit doing DVDs at home can be a little weird at first, but they’re great if you’re pressed for time.
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
I have that Bob Harper and Jillian DVD’s too! The are great!
kookyrunner says
Those are two of my faves!
