Happy Friday! Today I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness. Thank you ladies for hosting this linkup!
I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. If you’re like me, you probably indulged a little too much yesterday…but that’s okay! Here are a few ways you can get back on track today!
Black Friday Shopping
If you’re brave enough to deal with all of the crowds and craziness today – you’re amazing! Personally I can’t do it because I hate crowds, but I can guarantee that you’ll get in at least 10,000 steps going from store to store in search of sales. That’s an easy way to log a minimum of five miles today. Get moving!
Go for a Run
Probably the easiest way to get in some activity today – go for a run! Better yet, why not start a holiday run streak today?
Green Drink/Healthy Smoothie
For many, yesterday was filled with turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, alcohol and various pies and cakes. That’s a WHOLE lotta calories! What’s one way to get back on track today? Start off your morning with a tall glass of water and a green drink or healthy smoothie! When you start your day off with a healthy option, it’s much easier to make healthy choices for the rest of the day. Plus it’s always a great thing to start off the day with tons of vegetables.
Not-so-typical-exercise
Going to the gym or going for a run is a great way to get in some exercise today, but what about the not-so-typical forms of exercise? Are you cleaning up the house after guests? Well you’re burning a lot of calories washing dishes, vacuuming, changing bed sheets, etc.
Pick a race
This is a really fun way to help you get back on track, mentally. After your workout today, keep the motivation going and sign up for a goal race. Is this the year you want to run a half marathon? Go for it! Pick a race and then select your training plan. Not only will this make you feel good today, but it gives you something to look forward to in the future!
That’s it! Do you have any tips for how to recover from a food hangover?
Karen @ Fit in France says
I so agree with your last point ! As soon as I pick a race, I find I am back on track, focused and motivated. I had never thought of it like that but it always gives me a little kick in the butt.

Me too! I really like having a training plan and something to look forward too!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Fortunately (or unfortunately), I have to work today, so I’ll be burning the calories as I’m on my feet most of the day! Enjoy the weekend!
kookyrunner says
That’s a great way to burn tons of calories today!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
I meant to ride my bike after dinner yesterday but that didn’t happen! I’ll make up for it with a run today (hopefully)! Thanks for linking up with us!
kookyrunner says
It’s hard to want to workout after eating yummy food! Enjoy your weekend!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I’m never eating again.
For at least the next hour.
kookyrunner says
LOL!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m so with you on picking a race – having that goal out there definitely helps me to re-focus, especially after a little overindulging!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! Later on today I’m going to take a look at some races to see which ones I wanna sign up for!
Annmarie says
Thankfully I didn’t over indulge TOO much yesterday but I could still probably stand to sweat it out and replenish with a green smoothie or two 😉
kookyrunner says
I meant to start off this morning with a green smoothie but decided on a piece of pie, lol. I’m gonna do better for lunch/dinner today!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I spent most of the morning cleaning! (We weren’t here for Thanksgiving, but it was nice to take advantage of a day off to clean the house!) Now I will be avoiding the stores and doing some online holiday shopping!
kookyrunner says
That sounds great! At least you were able to be very productive today!
Jen @ SprinklesHikes.com says
I did a little online Black Friday shopping and then took my dog for a 4.5 mile hike. It definitely helped me decompress!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome! I got outside for a little while today and it felt good.
Rachel says
Haha, I love this! I’ve been so lazy today. Well, kinda. But I’ve been hanging out with my cousin and her kids, and my best friend, so it’s been a productive lazy day. 🙂
kookyrunner says
That sounds like a great day – hanging out with family is always fun!
Jenn says
Between my 6K race yesterday and a 4 mile walk around our neighborhood after dinner, I think I combatted the food hangover pretty successfully! These are great ideas, though!
kookyrunner says
You did a great job of staying active!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Black Friday shopping is great exercise! I am exhausted from hosting dinner last night lots of dishes

Sometimes we need an extra day off to recover from the holiday!

I’m not a Black Friday shopper. I was feeling so sluggish Friday that I decided to go for a slow 5 mile run (even though I ran 16 the day before!). It was the perfect remedy — to get outside in the fresh air and sunshine. AND BURN THOSE EXTRA CALORIES!
kookyrunner says
You are awesome for getting in 5 miles the day after a 16 miler!

I got my butt kicked at Pure Barre yesterday. My abs are still sore tonight, lol 🙂
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard how hard pure barre is!
Farrah says
hahaha, food hangovers are the only hangovers I ever get! These are great tips! 😛 I’d go with the smoothie and random exercise/workout! :]

Sometimes a food hangover can be worse than a regular hangover!
