We’ve all been there. You’re doing a training run or running a race and you just can’t seem to get it together. Either your mentally not in the game or aches and pains are making you rethink this whole “running” thing. You’re 1 mile into a long run and you want to quit.
These are all things that can happen to us during a run. That’s why we have to dig deep in those moments and use the power of positive thinking to get through those tough runs.
Luckily you can get a daily dose of inspiration through Runner’s World Quote of the Day (you can sign up to receive these quotes on the Runner’s World website). These inspirational/motivation quotes are delivered to your inbox daily.
Whether you call them inspirational quotes, motivational word or mantras, these are some of my favorites so far this year:
Truth! I never thought I could run a half marathon, but it was a dream of mine, so i got focused and trained hard. |
Running should be fun…always! If it’s not, then you’re doing something wrong |
I learned this the hard way. You have to train smart or else you might get injured or dissapointed in your lack of progress |
When I first started running I thought walk breaks meant that I wasn’t a “real” runner. I still can’t believe how foolish I was! |
Let’s get real. There are some days that I don’t want to run but I still do it because the alternative of NOT moving my body is just lame! |
Running is at least 50% mental! |
There is so much truth in this! You must keep a blance between training and life. |
I’m all about setting goals…within reality. For instance, I know I’ll never qualify for Boston based on time, and that’s okay. I run for me, no one else. |
So you didn’t earn that PR? It’s fine! It’s not the end of the world. |
At the end of 2014 I said I was going to run 15 half marathons in 2015. At the time, I thought it was crazy. Now I’m a few days out from completing that goal. Sticking to the plan works! |
This is something that I am still working on, but I love the concept. Feeling is always so much better than thinking anyway! |
What are some of your favoite quotes or mantras?

So many great quotes! I'm a huge fan of mantras–when the race gets tough and I have to dig deep, I pull out my mantras. Last year it was I can and I will. This year it was "Dont' stop believin'!

I love the two that you use! More times than not, the run is more mental than physical.

I love getting the mantra sent every day to my inbox. Sometimes it helps to see them especially when I'm not in the mood to run

Ooooh I love that last one! I'm still contemplating actually signing up for a marathon next fall, and I felt that one really stood out for me as something I need to do. Thanks for sharing these!

These are so great. I use mantras when my runs get tough. It's amazing the power a few words can have on you.

Sometimes mantras are the only thing that get me through hard runs!

I wrote the words finish strong on my hand for the Chicago Marathon last month and it helped me settle in at the right pace and stay focused. I also threw any other goal I had out the window because finishing strong was my biggest goal.

Thats's an awesome idea!

"I never said it would be easy, only that it would be worth it. "
