Happy Sunday! Week 2 of training went very well. I was happy to get in 3 strength classes this week, but sad that I didn’t fit in any Yoga this week. It’s so hard to fit in everything and sometimes I don’t feel like doing anything after a run. I really just have to suck it up and find a way to fit it in because I feel that it’s important for injury prevention. Here were my workouts for the week!
Monday 3/6
4 mile run + 10 minute Glute and Hip Strengthening workout from the Run & 10 DVD
Tuesday 3/7
Body Works + Abs class (55 minutes). I think this class will be my normal Tuesday class moving forward. I really enjoy it!
Wednesday 3/8
60 minute Boot Camp Class. My legs were pretty sore so this was a hard class for me but I got through it.
Thursday 3/9
I powered through 5 miles with Bruno Mars π
Friday 3/10
Rest days are the BEST days!
Saturday 3/11
My training plan called for 4 miles. I ran the Harbor Point Shamrock Stroll 5K and then ran the extra distance after the race. This was a local untimed race, but it was my first official race of the year. It was absolutely FREEZING on Saturday. It was 15 degrees with a real feel of 8 degrees. Luckily I dressed well and warmed up within half a mile but I really prefer to run indoors when it’s that cold!
Sunday 3/12
I enjoyed an awesome double workout – body works + abs and spinning. I love ending my week with a great workout!
Total Weekly Miles – 13
Grade – A+ π
Week 2 was great and I’m still feeling strong. I did have some leg soreness early in the week but I think that is coming from a combination of running and back-to-back strength training classes. I’m sure my legs will get used to this in another week or so!
Connecticut is expecting a huge snowstorm on Tuesday so I see some home workouts in my future for next week π Thank goodness for workout DVDs and treadmills to help keep me on track!

I have been using my treadmill a lot this winter too! The cold temps and wind have made me a weeny! Great week!
kookyrunner says
I don’t mind the treadmill, but I definitely enjoy running outside more! I’m okay with cold weather but once it dips below 15 degrees I get scared to run outside lol
Jessie says
Thanks for linking up Kimberly! What an awesome week- A+ π I love it! You do a great job of balancing a lot of variety of workouts. So impressive!
kookyrunner says
No problem Jessie – thanks so much for co-hosting! Thanks for the kind words. I’m still finding the perfect balance for me but it’s a work in progress, that’s for sure!
HoHo Runs says
Congrats on getting in three strength sessions this week. I also do hip/glute exercises 2 or 3 times a week. It does make a difference. Your Saturday race sounds so cold, but you are definitely dressed for it and the smile on your face says it all. Thanks for linking, Kim!
kookyrunner says
I can notice a small different just by doing the glute/hip exercises for 3 weeks. I really hope to see continued improvement! Yes, the race on Saturday was so so cold, but I was glad that I went out there an conquered it!
Kimberly Hatting says
I love my puffer vests, so I’m especially loving your green one! We’re due for some snow tonight in Iowa, too….UGH!!!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! You know what, it was actually my first time running in a puffer vest and I really liked it π Ugh! I don’t mind snow but I just hate that we are going to get over 12 inches π
Marcia says
Isn’t it crazy that overall it’s been a mild winter but the minute you have a race, it’s freezing? Smh. Nice week of training!
kookyrunner says
LoL my thoughts exactly Marcia! I was like “What is this?!”
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Great job on your running that 5k plus an extra mile for as cold as it was. I would have threw in the towel! Iam so loving Bruno Mars’s new song.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I really love Bruno Mars for running π
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Congrats on getting out there to run the race under such cold conditions! It sounds like we’ll both be doing a few home workouts this week. We’re expecting 6-12 inches of snow starting tomorrow evening and it sounds like you might get double that up there! Stay safe!
kookyrunner says
I hate late season snowstorms. Just when we thought Spring was on the way, lol. We’re supposed to get 12-18 inches starting at midnight.
Clarinda says
Great work this week! I agree that finding time for everything is so hard! I prefer running before work and that usually means barely having enough time to then get ready for work – let alone do any stretching. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve started doing yoga after work.
Hope it doesn’t stay too cold for too much longer.
kookyrunner says
I wish we could have just one more hour in the day. It would make things so much easier!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great job this week- it can be so tough to fit everything in! And I find its really hard to run outside in the cold now after such a mild winter. I really cant believe there will be a snow storm this late in the season!
kookyrunner says
I agree. the really cold temps throw me for a loop especially when it was 60 degrees at some point last week, lol
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Looks like a great week of training despite the weather conditions. Hope we don’t get too much snow
kookyrunner says
We’re upposed to get 12-18 inches, but I am hoping we get way less.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Looks like a great week of training. I’m so ready for winter to get the boot! We’re sitting under a blanket of snow this morning. Really? None since December and now? Grrrr.
kookyrunner says
It’s so frustrating when Mother Nature cannot make up her mind! I don’t mind a little bit of snow but we’re supposed to get over a foot!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job this past week! So much cross-training…such good stuff! I was happy to finally do some spinning and yoga after a brief drought. I’m so mad at this cold weather we’re having now…what the heck! And congrats on being a Rock ‘n Blogger! Are you going to do Brooklyn in October??
kookyrunner says
I can’t wait to do Yoga this week. I have a feeling I’ll be doing it tomorrow since my gym will probably be closed π RnR Brooklyn is a week after the Chicago Marathon. I am registered to run, but if my body feels really beat down I will just go there to spectate to cheer on all the runners!
courtney @ eat pray run dc says
So I think I’m in the minority here but I’m really hoping for a snow day! π I haven’t gotten to use my yaktrax all winter long and that makes me sad. Great week!
kookyrunner says
I imagine that using Yaktrax would be fun! I have a hard enough time running on the pavement! I think I’m too clumbsy to experiment running on the snow, lol
Mary Beth Jackson says
I can’t believe the temps you all had over the weekend! That is a cold race day! YIKES! Rest days are great days π Looks like a great week- I feel bad when I miss yoga, it makes my body very happy.
kookyrunner says
Yes the temps are crazy but the good news is that April is right around the corner π
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
It seems as though something always has to give. I shoot for 2 ST sessions a week, and a little short pilates sprinkled here & there. But sometimes there’s barely any pilates!
Ugh, I really don’t want to do my run on the mill tomorrow, but the snow is forecast to start pretty early. π
I am doing a half in NOLA in 2 weeks. Very excited!
kookyrunner says
It’s so hard to fit everything in! I’m going to get a run in today after work so that I can run outside π
That’s awesome that you are doing a half in NOLA! I can’t wait to read all about it!
Elaine @myRUNexperiment says
My mom just texted me about the big storm and she lives in PA. Hope you all stay safe and warm.
Hips and glutes are great for Injury Prevention. I’ve been including those types of exercises in my strength routine.
kookyrunner says
We’re just waiting for the storm to start in the next few hours – I’m so NOT looking forward to it!
I’m really loving all the hip and glute exercises that I have been doing!
Rachel says
Awesome week! Our races were so cold this weekend. Good for us for sticking them out. π
kookyrunner says
We deserve a huge pat on the back! LoL
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
Awesome job racing on that brutal day! It was awful here too, and yeah, I’m anxiously awaiting that big snowstorm. I live right in the city and we usually get less then even just outside the city, so I’m crossing my fingers. Sounds like you have a good backup for this week!
kookyrunner says
I really hope that we get less snow than anticipated! I hate shoveling even though it’s great cardio!
Jenn says
Fabulous week! What RnR’s will you be doing? I am so excited for the year ahead!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn! I’ll be doing RnR Philly and Brooklyn for sure. I’m still hoping to add 2 more races, maybe San Antonio and Montreal.
Coco says
Oh, that is SO cold! I hope you don’t get too much snow this week. I did coax myself out of bed today with the reminder that tomorrow might be to messy for running!
kookyrunner says
i really hope that we get less snow than predicted! Great job on getting your workout done today!
Smitha says
Looks like a great week inspite of the weather. Just another week before it starts turning again. I love the treadmill, but have cabin fever!
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping that April brings more consistent, Spring-like weather!
De Bolton says
I saw on Instagram you ran at 8 degree weather may you runner goals are made of that real tough stuff because I couldn’t not do it. I admire y’all mental, physical endurance and discipline. Way to start your season!
kookyrunner says
Awwe thanks so much De! It was CRAZY cold but thankfully it was a 5K and not a half marathon!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Winter made a brutal return down here in Virginia, and it looks absolutely terrible out there. I made sure to get a run in last run before the weather turned, and I’m so glad that I made that a priority.
kookyrunner says
So glad you were able to get in a run before the weather turned. I did the same thing yesterday since Winter Storm Stella arrived this morning.
Angela @marathonsandmotivation.com says
Great job fitting everything in this past week! It’s been super cold in Maine and I have had do a few runs on the treadmill, which has been a struggle!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Angela! I was able to get a run done outside yesterday before Winter Storm Stella arrived this morning! Hopefully this is the last snowstorm for the season.
Toni says
Looks like a great week! The Brooklyn hog is one of my favs! Hope you didn’t get too much snow….
kookyrunner says
Thanks Toni! Luckily we didn’t get as much snow as expected π
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
You dressed the part for your St Patrick themed race! I love the green. Great job on your first official race too!
I have been seeing all those crazy cold temps up there. I hope it’s Mother N’s way of going out with a bang!
kookyrunner says
I think that we have hopefully had our last snow storm for Winter (fingers crossed)!
