Happy Wednesday! Well we survived Winter Storm Stella. I actually don’t mind snow, as long as it’s under 6 inches, lol. I really hope this is the last snow storm for Winter. Moving on…
I don’t know about you, but apps make my life so much easier. I’m a very Type A person so anything that can help me better organize my life is always much appreciated!
Do you use Apps? I’m sure the answer is ‘Yes’! But do you know about some of the cool health and fitness apps? There are TONS of apps available, but today I wanted to highlight a few of my favorites. The best part about these apps? They are all FREE!
I discovered this app about two years ago. FitSnap is an iPhone app that allows you to add your workout information to your personal photos or motivational pictures. There are over 40 activities to choose from including Barre, Boot Camp, Cycling, Hiking, Rowing, Running, Spinning and Strength Training just to name a few. Once you select your activity, you can add in the length of your workout and distance (if applicable). This app will also connect to other fitness apps – MapMyFitness, RunKeeper, Strava and Under Armour.
After you have selected the activity, length of workout and distance, you can pick from either their ‘Sporty’ or ‘Simple’ themes. You can save the image on your phone and share it on Facebook, Instgram and Twitter. I use this app because it’s a fun way to display your photos on on social media.
If you use a Garmin product, you’ll love the Garmin Connect app. It’s available for Android and iPhones. I use this app for both my Garmin Vivosmart and Forerunner 620 GPS watch. I like that I can use one app to keep track of my runs, sleep, daily steps, calories burned, etc. You can join challenges through the app, as well as get healthy tips from experts and transfer over historical information from old fitness trackers.
The app allows you to wirelessly upload activities. I love that during the day, I can log onto the app and check my steps tracked with my Vivosmart. I also enjoy checking the app after a run to see my stats as well. Check here for a list of the devices that are compatible with the app.
Looking for an easy way to access in-home workouts? Then the Nike+ Training App is perfect for you! It’s available for iPhone and Android. Nike markets the app as “Your ultimate personal trainer”. This app is loaded with over 100 strength, endurance and mobility workouts designed by Nike Trainers and Athletes, so you just know they are going to be good! You select the length and level of your workout, which is great if you’re short on time, but need a good sweat session. You can also set up personal training plans, connect with friends and familiy to share workouts and join community challenges.
My Fitness Pal is a very useful app if you want to keep track of the food that you eat everyday. It’s available for iPhone and Android. The app allows you access to over 6 million foods, has a barcode scanner to easily log foods, calorie counter, food insights and much more. The app allows you to set goals as well.
I don’t use this app everyday, eventhough I know I should, but it does help me stay on track when I want to drop a few pounds. I’m a huge snacker, so using this app makes me aware of the foods that I am eating throughout the day.
This fun app from Fleet Feet Sports was released last year. Isn’t it cool that runners now have some awesome runmojis to use when they are talking to other runners or posting on social media?! There are 28 emojis to choose from icluding a PR medal, a bib, a GPS watch, and my favorite, the wall!
Currently the app is only available through Apple’s App Store, but will hopefully be available on Android soon!
Do you have any favorite health and fitness apps?

Can you believe I got to try out FitSnap when it first came out? They nailed it with that one. The Garmin Connect app is essential, but I’m not sure it’s as user friendly as it could be. Love the emojis!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that you were one of the first users of the FitSnap app – I really love it! I agree with youon the Gramin app as it took me a little while to figure everything out because it provides so much info! The runmoji app is my favorite “new find”!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I used to use Fitsnap, but I just rely on my journal now. Although since sometimes I don’t get around to updating my journal, maybe I should go back to Fitsnap to help me keep some records. Just in case.
I am not a snow fan. And we got waaaaay more than 6 inches. Around here 6 inches is nothing! I just wasn’t happy about having to run my tempo run on my treadmill, but I’m glad a had a treadmill to run it on.
kookyrunner says
This time of the year is when we really learn to appreciate our treadmills!

I love the NTC app. It’s probably my most used fitness app. Their workouts are fun and easy to follow.
I got excited when I saw FitSnap, hoping that they’d expanded to Android. Sad that they’re only on iPhone. Same with those emojis. They look so fun!!
kookyrunner says
I agree. The workouts can be ahrd, but the moves are easy to follow. I don’t know what certain apps are not available for Android, it just seems silly!
