I don’t know about you, but I am always looking to improve my eating habits and overall nutrition. When I heard about The Food Dare by Lindsey Banks, I was instantly intrigued. The title of the book made me want to learn more because I’m always up for a challenge!
The great thing about this book is that it doesn’t focus on taking things away, rather it focused on steps you can take in order to improve your current diet. I’m a firm believer in everything in moderation, so this approach gets the thumbs up from me!
You pledge to take the Food Dare for 30 days. This is totally manageable because there is a new action to take each day. This makes the month go by rather quickly. There are three phases to the dare: water, color and clean.
- Water – This phase is very simple, drink more water! I actually love water so this is not an issue for me. I often add fruits or lemon/lime wedges to my water to make t more enjoyable. I also find that I drink water more often when it’s ice cold. FYI – to all my coffee drinkers out that, coffee does NOT apply to your water intake!
- Color – It’s often recommended that you eat colorful fruits and vegetables. It is rather easy to add more fruits and veggies to your meals. Here are a few examples – adding berries to your oatmeal, adding a banana to your cereal, adding a side salad to your dinner, swapping out french fries for a baked sweet potato or adding extra veggies, such as cucumbers and tomatoes to your salads.
- Clean – This may be the most important. This phase includes cutting out processed foods. This is so important because most processed foods contain way too much sodium and they are essentially empty calories with no nutritional value.
I always tend to gain a few pounds around the holiday season so taking the food dare has given me skills to keep my eating in check. The simple steps I learned are so easy to remember and incorporate.
