Disclaimer: I was provided a pair of AfterShokz Trekz Titanium wireless headphones for this blog review through my affiliation with FitApproach and Sweatpink. All opinions are 100% my own.
Happy Wednesday! Today I’m linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Jen from Pretty Little Grub, Michelle at Fruition Fitness and Nicole from Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday!
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that music is a big part of my life, and workouts. I run with music 99% of the time because it gives me that extra motivational push I need to complete a hard workout. Although I run with music, I always take precautions to make sure that I am safe. This often means running with my music very low so that I am aware, and can hear, all of my surroundings.
I first started using wireless headphones last year and I was amazed and how much I loved them for running. When I was offered the opportunity to try the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium wireless headphones, I was very excited! Here’s a little more information on the headphones:
“AfterShokz launched in 2011, bringing patented bone conduction technology to the consumer electronics industry with their unique headphones. What sets AfterShokz headphones apart from any other brand is the unique open ear design, allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings while they listen to premium stereo sound.”
At first I was a little confused by the “open ear design”. After three runs, I finally figured out the best way to wear the headphones that worked for me. I have a small head so it definitely a little tricky at first.
It was weird to not have the headphones go directly in my ear, but in a way, this is much safer for running. By using bone conduction technology, the headphones produce sound via mini vibrations that travel through your cheekbones to your inner ears, bypassing your eardrums completely. This means that the headphones actually sit on the outside of your ears. This enabled me to even hear more of my surroundings while running. I tested out the headphones on a few short to mid-length runs and here’s what I’m loving so far:
* Lightweight – I really couldn’t even tell that I had the headphones on
* Sweat Resistant – So y’all know it’s been a HOT and HUMID summer, right? I was convinced these headphones would slip right off because I sweat so much, but theu didn’t!
* Bluetooth – Easily synched to my iPod
* Battery life – I can basically charge the headphones once or twice a week and be totally fine – no need to re-charge daily!
* Volume control – Very easy to control the volume
* Color – I’m not usually a big fan of pink, but their is meaning behind the color, which brings me to the #AwareWithPink Campaign!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and you can make a difference! “AfterShokz is joining the fight against breast and ovarian cancer by going (Bright) Pink! The limited edition open ear Trekz Titanium Pink headphones are designed to keep you aware, but in more than one way. For every unit sold on aftershokz.com through October 31st, 2016, AfterShokz will donate 25% of proceeds to Bright Pink, a non-profit that focuses on breast and ovarian cancer awareness and action. Every time #AwareWithPink is used on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, AfterShokz will donate an additional 25 cents to Bright Pink to extend the awareness. Spreading the hashtag will fund Bright Pink’s ongoing efforts to educate and drive awareness about how being proactive can make all the difference.”

I love the idea of being able to hear your surroundings. That’s the one thing I don’t like about my Plantronics head phones.

I know exactly how you feel Jen. I have started using my Platronics headphones for my gym workouts/treadmill runs and I use the AfterShokz for outdoor runs.
