Happy Sunday! It felt great to get back on track this week. I got in all my runs this week (even if they weren’t pretty) and 3 days of strength training. This was also a much needed cutback week in training. Besides the ridiculous humidity and being sore from the half marathon last weekend, it was a pretty good week!
Monday 6/26
3 mile run. This was a struggle since it was the day after my double race weekend. My legs were sore so I took it nice and easy.
Tuesday 6/27
2 mile run – nice and easy
Wednesday 6/28
2 glorious hours of strength training! I took two back-to-back classes (body works + abs and boot camp). I know I won’t be able to do this every week but I really enjoyed it!
Thursday 6/29
4 mile tempo run – 2 miles easy / 1 mile tempo / 1 mile easy. I’m glad that I am still doing my tempo runs every week and I hope to continue that throughout my training cycle.
Friday 6/30
REST DAY! I also added up my mileage for the month and ended up with 88.5 miles for June. That’s my highest monthly total for the year.
Saturday 7/1
8 mile run. This run was brutal π The high humidity made me feel like I was running in slow motion. My legs felt pretty heavy throughout the entire run. I was just happy when this run was over.
Sunday 7/2
Just one class today – body works+ abs. The instructor really focused on legs. After the class I got on the Stair Master machine for 10 minutes. Holy sweatfest! I really hate that machine but it’s great for building endurance.
Total Weekly Miles – 17
Total Training Cycle Miles – 112.8
Grade – A
I’m pleased with my workouts this week. I was very happy to get in so much strength training. I really feel that it balances out my running. I also had a great ART appointment on Thursday. I’m dealing with a few issues but I always leave my appointment feeling so much better. I’ll be using my lacrosse ball at home more often to help with an issue I’m having with my back. I’m hoping that will really help the issue.
Saturday’s long run was okay (well bearable) in the beginning, but the last 4 miles are all a blur. I just kept trying to put one foot in front of the other to finish. I was supposed to do a few hill repeats during the run, but I could barely breathe so I decided against it. This humidity is driving me bonkers! The sad part is that I know it’s just going to get so much worse as the summer progresses. I always struggle when running in the summer but this year seems especially bad for some reason. I’m just hoping my body gets adjusted to the heat soon.
I also finished up the #RunChatHunt on Saturday. Twice a year RunChat hosts a RunChatHunt and there is a list of items they want you to find on your run. I didn’t find all the items on the list this time, but that’s fine, it was a lot of fun!
Did you have a good week? Do you have any plans for the 4th of July holiday?
Iβm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap. This week’s guest host is Kim so show her some love!
Iβm also linking up with the Jessβs (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) and Courtney for their Training Recap Link Ups!

Great job this week making sure all of your runs were completed. The humidity on Saturday was no joke! I cut my run short because the air here was just so thick. What do you think of the body works classes? I’ve been thinking about trying them at my gym.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sara. Ugh – this humidity is just getting really annoying at this point! I really love my body works class because I feel like it hits all the body parts. It’s a great way to get in an effective full body workout!
Zenaida Arroyo says
It seems like the east coast has been struggling with humidity. Please do not send it here. π
Great job on doing two strength classes in one day. One is enough for me.
You’re doing great in your training. Just keep picturing you crossing that finish line of the Chicago Marathon. It will all be worth it.
kookyrunner says
LoL, trust me, I don’t want anyone else to deal with the humidity. I just want it to go far far away lol.
Whenever I’m having a hard run I do try to visualize myself crossing the finish line – it helps me get through the run π
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Another great week for you! Clearly I need some more Momentum wraps you have so many
kookyrunner says
Thanks! It’s funny because I ordered a few more wraps last week to give me some extra motivation during marathon training!
Lisa @ MIle by Mile says
Great job this week! Its so helpful to do the strength training to balance out all the running. And the ART is great for injury prevention!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! When I was focusing solely on running, that’s when all my injuries started, so I always make strength training a priority!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
You had a great week! Just keep reminding yourself how all this humidity running is going to benefit you in the marathon–the back half of the course is not shaded and it can get really toasty!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy! That is a positive way to look at suffering in the summer heat lol
Lesley says
I didn’t have humidity, but my run yesterday was ugly too. One foot in front of the other, run/walk intervals after another. I won’t start training until September, but it’ll be good to get back to my routine.
kookyrunner says
Yup, when the runs are like that it’s all about survival!
Kimberly Hatting says
Awesome month…88 miles! That’s amazing π
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Kim. Hope you are resting up and feeling better!
Christine says
I agree that strength training is essential for running. Any time I’ve been at my best as a runner, it’s also been simultaneous with consistent strength workouts. Good job getting through your week with the humidity (It’s nasty out there!).
kookyrunner says
Thanks Christine! Happy to find a fellow lover of strength training π
Debbie says
Nice job on your training week! I had a really tough 8 mile run too. It’s so freaking hot!
kookyrunner says
I think everyone is struggling so much with the heat and humidity – fingers crossed that it gets a little better for all of us!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Saturday really was brutal. If I’d been on my own, it would’ve been a much, much slower run.
No big plans for tomorrow. A race, some grilling, some relaxing. Probably watch a movie, too. Have a great 4th!
kookyrunner says
I was also happy to have a friend for my run on Saturday. She kept me pushing forward!
Good luck on your race for the 4th!
Clarinda says
Wow! It may not seem like it to you, but I can’t believe it’s already been 6 weeks of marathon training. Seems like you were just training for the airbnb Brooklyn Half. LOL.
Great job this week. Definitely an A week with all of that strength training. I really feel like it’s so important for runners and so often neglected (I’m no exception!).
I forgot all about runchathunt. π Next time….
kookyrunner says
I know! I can’t believe that I’ve been training for over a month! Because of the Brooklyn Half I feel like I’ve been training for months and months, lol.
They should have another RunChatHunt around the holidays! π
courtney @ eat pray run dc says
The humidity this weekend was OUT OF CONTROL. Great job getting in all your workouts though!!
kookyrunner says
Girl…it was brutal! I’m secretly hoping that we will have low humidity this weekend!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You had a fantastic training week, I give you an A+! I’ve never tried 2 fitness classes back to back, I’m always scared I’ll pass out, haha!
I have been a big chicken and hiding from this hot/humid weather with my off-season, lol. It’s tough with the heat and humidity but every time you go out you get stronger and beter acclimated – you got this!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Janelle!
You are totally not a chicken, lol. I have honestly done half of my weekly training runs on the treadmill because I just can’t bear running in the heat and humidity after work!
Jenn says
Ooh, that RunChatHunt sounds fun! I wish I had seen that!
The humidity and heat here have been horrendous. I am doing my best to stay hydrated and undeterred, but it’s tough to stay motivated.
We are going to see fireworks tonight and chill out tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week off of work and hanging out with friends and family. Happy 4th of July!
kookyrunner says
IT was really fun! They will do another one around the holidays if you want to join!
It’s so hard to stay hydrated, but like you, I’m trying to make sure I’m drinking enough water throughout the day.
Jessie says
Awesome week! Humidity is SO tough, good for you for taking it easy when you could…
I’m so impressed with your back-to-back classes- what a great full body workout!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! Ugh, the humidity is just so annoying. It’s hard to manage running when your sweat is sweating, lol
Janalyn Sullivan says
I love those little motivational bangles! I need to find me some
kookyrunner says
They are Momentum Jewelry wraps – check out their website! They have tons of different wraps to choose from.
Ilka says
Great training week and some really great mileage for the month of June! Way to go!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much!
Rachel says
You had such a great week! I’m so impressed with your classes.
kookyrunner says
Thanks my friend! I really enjoyed the back to back classes and I’m going to do it again this week π
Teresa says
I just don’t know how you ladies do all of this running in the summer months. I guess I’m just too old and stubborn! π You are killing it girl…enjoy that youthfulness and energy!!! Me??? You will find me on my bike with a breeze blowing in my face or on that dreaded powermill ….which I love π
kookyrunner says
Haha thanks so much Teresa! I think that part of it has to do with runners are just a little bit cray-cray π
Sherry says
Sounds like a great week of workouts! Congrats on your highest monthly total for the year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sherry!
The Accidental Marathoner says
What a wonderful week of training! I’m a little nervous that you are on week 6, and I just finished week 1! Of course my only goal ever is to finish. That RunChatHunt sounds like a blast!
kookyrunner says
Don’t feel nervous! I did a 20 week training plan so that’s why it seems like I’m far along, lol! RunChatHunt is so much fun! They will have it again around the holidays if you want to get involved!
Mary Beth Jackson says
That is some impressive miles for June! I think the first run after a big race weekend is always the toughest! Keep up the great work!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Mary Beth!
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
I feel the same way about strength training. I know it helps my running plus keeps me injury free. Last year I kept to a 3-workouts-a-week routine during marathon training, but I had a coach who made sure I did my strength. These days I’m lucky if I get 2 sessions in when I’m not even training, and I need to work on that!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree, strength training is everything for me! I still have aches and pains and sometimes my IT band is wacky, but overall I think it helps to keep more serious injuries at bay!
Coco says
Solid week! I love your RunChatHunt entries. I especially liked seeing the “public art” ones.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I love doing the RunChatHunt each year!
