Happy Sunday! First, congratulations to everyone that conquered the Marine Corps Marathon today. Enjoy your achievement, put your legs up and enjoy some pizza š
So…it’s been a very, very heavy week. I’m sure I don’t need to recap all of the tragedies from this week but let’s just take a little extra time to love each other, okay? We need a lot more kindness in the world, that’s for sure.
This week I was back to more of a normal schedule for work, but my gym schedule was completely off (as you’ll see with my weekly workouts) AND my scheduled half marathon for Saturday was cancelled. Nevertheless, I made the best of the situation and still walked away with some awesome workouts.
Now onto my weekly recap!
Monday, October 22
Spinning (60 minutes).
Luckily I woke up feeling a lot better than I did on Saturday so I was able to do a spinning class after work. I also spent some time in the morning admiring my medal from a hard fought race!
Tuesday, October 23
Strength Training (60 mins).
The instructor killed us on legs but it actually felt good to ‘feel the burn’ so I can’t complain. I also did some PT exercises before the class.
Wednesday, October 24
2 mile run + Spinning (45 minutes).
The run felt good since I took it nice and easy. The spinning class felt hard, probably because of all the squats and lunges from Tuesday’s workout. This wasn’t the original workout I had planned. My boot camp class had a substitute instructor and I wasn’t in the mood to try anything new.
Thursday, October 25
4 mile run.
Again, kept the pace nice and easy. I was happy to get these miles in before work.
Friday, October 26
REST DAY! My body was screaming for a rest day and I was happy to listen to it. I also received my free race photos from the SoNo Half Marathon and I’m pretty happy with them!
Saturday, October 27
3 mile run + Spinning (60 minutes).
I was supposed to run the Wilmington Women’s Half Marathon in Delaware but the race was cancelled on Wednesday due to the impending storm. This race was kind of a train wreck from the start so it was probably a blessing in disguise that is was cancelled. They are offering free deferrals to next year’s race but I’m gonna pass. Also the weather was pretty bad when I woke up (super cold, really windy and pouring rain) so I was happy to do my indoor workout!
Sunday, October 28
6 mile run.
I usually do strength training and spinning but both instructors were out this week (see what I meant earlier about the gym schedule being off). I’ll consider this my semi long run for the week.
Total Weekly Mileage: 15 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 3 spinning classes, 1 Strength training class, 2 Walks
Grade This Week ā A
I’m pleased with the workouts this week and the fact that I was able to get in 4 runs and 3 spinning classes, but I definitely skimped on strength training this week and I don’t like that. I’m going to make a point to do more of that next week.
The cancelled race was certainly a bummer, but I’m most likely going to sign up for the Delaware Running Festival in late April 2019. It’s a way more reputable race series so I know it will actually happen, lol.
I only have two 5K races from now until Thanksgiving and in December I have two half marathons. I’ll spend November continuing my half marathon training and getting in a few long runs. I’m not running for PRs anymore so it’s really just about maintenance at this point.
How was your week? Are you doing anything special for Halloween?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Sounds like you did well getting in your workouts even though your schedule was moved around! It probably worked out that you didnt have to race in the rain and cold yesterday.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! It was definitely an off week but it still went pretty well š
Kimberly Hatting says
Just think how miserable that race would have been…I think Fate may have intervened (?) on that one. A bunch of us at work are dressing as hippies for Halloween š
kookyrunner says
Oh fate definitely intervened and I’m very happy for that!
I love that you’re dressing up for Halloween! I never dress up, I just hand out candy to all the kids š
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I have to laugh because I STILL raced Sat. It wasn’t miserable, but I was with a group — it was certainly challenging!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Kim, you’re always so consistent! I’m sorry about the cancelled race — that one really sounded interesting and I still haven’t done DE but maybe it’s a good thing!
We do nothing for Halloween. In fact, we turn out all the lights & we don’t give out candy. With the animals and the fact that we live in a raised ranch, it just got too hard.
kookyrunner says
It was definitely a good thing! I actually just signed up for the Delaware Running Festival Half Marathon. It’s in late April next year and they were running a promotion code to save $15 this weekend so I couldn’t pass that up!
For Halloween I don’t dress up either, but I do give out candy until 8pm. Anyone that comes after that is out of luck!
Wendy says
Those are great finish line photos–I love that you put on a game face even though your race was so tough! It’s always easier to smile at the finish line, isn’t it?
We dress up at work (obvi, working in peds) and I’ll pull out that Wonder Woman costume again!
kookyrunner says
LoL, yup – it’s so easy to smile at the end of a race!
I love that you’re going to dress up. I imagine it must be fun for the kids to see you all dressed up too!
HoHo Runs says
Those are great race pics from Sono! So sorry to hear about your cancelled race. At least it wasn’t a goal race? Since Halloween is the last day of the month, work is always pretty hectic. We usually wear tacky sweaters but little else. I’m not sure we will give out candy at the house either. I can’t imagine the torture my three dogs will put be through. I’m sure it would be deafening. š Thanks for linking!
kookyrunner says
That’s true. It was a goal race so that’s probably why I wasn’t too upset about it for too long.
I don’t dress up for Halloween but I give out candy. When my dog was alive we would have to put him in the basement or else he would have scared all the kids away with his barking!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
It has been a really hard few days for me emotionally as well. on another note, it’t the first year I am not dressing up for halloween it’s weird
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping that this week will be a little more positive. We all need to smile to get through the sadness.
Lesley says
That is such a bummer that your race was cancelled. I have most decorations out and ready to go for trick-or-treaters, and my work is doing a Halloween party that afternoon. I’m excited since I love it so much.
kookyrunner says
Love that your job is having a Halloween party on Wednesday. We’re doing a potluck at my job.
Coco says
Love your race pics! you have a great smile in your running photos. š It probably was a good thing that race got canceled. The Delaware Running Festival sounds like a better option. You still have a pretty full race calendar.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Coco! It was easy to smile once I knew it was all almost over lol.
angela @ happy fit mama says
Our weekend schedule got a messed up because of the Nor’easter. I really wanted to run a Halloween themed run with my daughter today but running with an 8 year old in a costume in the pouring rain and wind sounds like not a whole lot of fun to me. LoL!
kookyrunner says
That’s a bummer that you weren’t able to run the race with your daughter š Maybe you can run a fun themed holiday race to make up for missing the Halloween one.
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
It was such a heavy week indeed. This weekend I celebrated Halloween with NP’s 13×1 relay race – raced a mile dressed like a dragon and had a blast!
kookyrunner says
That Halloween relay with November Project sounds like a lot of fun!
Cari says
This week. So brutal. I don’t even know where we go from here.
Congrats on also playing musical chairs workout wise
I knly dress for the office & missed our Halloween happy time so I won’t dress this year
kookyrunner says
Yes it was a really hard week. I just kept shaking my head at all the tragedy.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Congrats on your race! Nice medal! It is always nice when races offer free pics. You look like you were still smiling. Or were you thinking smile for the camera but pain on the inside…haha. I heard the east coast was having nasty weather this past weekend. I am glad I was on the west coast.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! It’s so rare when races offer free race pics so I really appreciate that this race does that.
chaitali says
Those are some great race photos! Too bad about the race being cancelled but it sounds like it was probably a good thing given the weather and the fact that they didn’t seem that well organized.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Yes it was definitely a good thing that the race was cancelled because the weather was so gross.
Christine @ Into the Glimmer says
Looks like a good week and congrats on the race! The pictures look great!
I work remotely, but we’re having a virtual Halloween party by sharing our pictures and costumes on our messaging tool. Plus I’ve got trick or treat with the kiddo! His costume is all ready and he’s so excited!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Christine!
I love that you’re having a virtual Halloween party – how fun!
Darlene says
I love your race pics!! They are awesome. Sometimes my best pics are when I feel the worst LOL
Too bad about your race.
You have a big December going on!
I have my last half of 2018 on Nov 24.
I am out of town working so my hubby is in charge of the candy distribution.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene! I think because I struggled for the whole race I was just so elated to be done, hence the big smile!
I’m looking forward to a busy first half of December
Marcia says
Solid week for you despite the gym schedule changes! Halloween really snuck up this year. We haven’t even carved our pumpkins yet. The kids have already eaten most of our candy and I’m fighting the urge to go buy more because we really don’t get many trick or treaters anyway.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia! I agree that Halloween came quickly this year. I did buy candy early this year but I always make candy bags for the trick or treaters, so I made those bags as soon as I got the candy and sealed them up. That way, no temptation to eat all the candy lol
RenƩe says
Really a bummer about your race getting cancelled. What’s the next goal?
I was invited to a Halloween Party but we decided not to go. It was pretty far away and we had a race ourselves the next day so we decided not to go. Just as well, since we have a sick kitty at home at the moment (well, he’s currently at the vet).
my week was ok, still kind of sore from the marathon, did boot camp and RPM anyway and then ran a 7.5KM race (weird distance) on Sunday. can’t just.sit.at.home.
kookyrunner says
It was a blessing in disguise that the race got cancelled. My next half marathon is RnR San Antonio.
Oh no š Sorry to hear about your sick kitty but hope that he’s feeling better now.
Jenn says
Awesome week for you! I love your race photos – congratulations on another awesome half!
We will be having friends over for Halloween tacos and drinks, and then we will go trick or treating in the neighborhood. I’ve got some Jello shot hander outers to find!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenn!
Your Halloween festivities sound like a lot of fun!
Jenny Albertson says
I’m hoping to start getting a few more miles in a week. My knee is starting to feel a little better, but my IT band is still definitely noticeably tight! So that’s my only real plan haha.
kookyrunner says
So glad that your knee is starting to feel better!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I miss spinning! I think that may be something I take up again post marathon. It’ll be nice to have something different on the schedule.
I’m planning on doing Disney Springs for Halloween. Not sure what’ll be going down, but I’m sure something will be!
I agree…the Pittsburgh thing hit me hard. I was just in that city this past spring and I have several friends there. Luckily none of them were hurt, but still. Sad and scary.
kookyrunner says
It’s always nice to get back to strength and cross training once marathon training is over!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Looks like a solid week despite your busy schedule. Your race photos are great! I wish more races would offer free photos – such a nice perk!
kookyrunner says
Me too! Especially marathons. It baffles me that the big ones, like NYC and Chicago still charge for photos even though the entry fees are so expensive!
Liz Dexter says
Love those race photos – strong and happy runner! And that half sounds like a good miss, actually. I’ve got no races to run (plenty to help others run) so just inching up my weekly mileage.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! It was easy for me to smile once I knew the race was pretty much over lol
Allie says
Hello! It’s my first time here and I’m following from the link up. I loved your recap and I have to say, it’s probably a VERY good thing that race was cancelled but also a total letdown for you. Here’s hoping you have a fun Halloween and another good week of workouts!
kookyrunner says
Thanks for coming to my blog from the link up!
Yes, definitely a blessing in disguise that the race was cancelled!
Anna @ Piper's Run says
Love your finish line photos! My last race (half) photos are horrible….so bad, ha ha! No Halloween running plans but trick-or-treating with my kids!!!
kookyrunner says
Oh most of my race photos are horrible – I just got lucky with these, lol
Michelle Rogers says
Looks like a great week of training, with a lot of challenge! Happy Halloween! I’m teaching a special Halloween edition of my group class — looking forward to it.
kookyrunner says
So cool that you’re teaching a Halloween themed class!
Hannah says
That’s a solid post-race week of workouts! I like how you have “only” 2 5Ks until Thanksgiving…that’s less than 4 weeks away!
kookyrunner says
LOL I know! Once I typed it out I was like wait a minute, that’s pretty soon.
