Hooray – we made it through another week. Also, Happy NYC Marathon Day! Congratulations to all of the runners that are making their way through all 5 boroughs today. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience and I still have fond memories from when I did it back in 2016.
Did you have a good week? I had a weird week with a few ups and downs but it ended on a high note.
Now onto my weekly recap!
Monday, October 29
Lunchtime Walk (30 mins) + Spinning (30 minutes).
I didn’t get home until pretty late (after work event), so I didn’t have time for a long workout. I still wanted to get in something so I opted for a 30 minute hip hop spinning class.
Tuesday, October 30
No workout.
Tuesday was a really, really tough day. I was in an all day strategy meeting and then after work I attended a farewell dinner for a lot of employees that sat on my floor in my office. I’ve talked about it a little bit on the blog, but my job has gone through a major change this year which unfortunately have resulted in many layoffs. It’s always sad to see good people go but I have no doubt that they will all land great jobs.
Wednesday, October 31
1 mile run + Spinning (45 minutes).
Happy Halloween! I went the lazy route with my costume. I present to you my “lumberjack” costume.
I was happy to get in a workout before all the trick or treaters arrived! It was slow for a while but then we got a mad rush of kids between 7-7:30pm. Thankfully I was able to get rid of all of the candy!
Thursday, November 1
No “formal” workout, but I got in a lot of steps by volunteering at the New York City Marathon Expo! I was working one of the bib pick up tables and it was SO much fun! I got so much joy at seeing how excited the runners were to pick up their bibs and explore the Expo.
Also, one of the runners picking up their bibs was from Hawaii. She was such a sweet woman and bought candy for all of the volunteers. I enjoyed this yummy treat!
Friday, November 2/strong>
3 mile run + Spinning (45 minutes).
I was happy that this run went okay overall. All week I was having some issues with my right leg. It was kind of a dull ache in my upper quad. It was never a sharp pain but it was always “just there” (it’s hard to explain). It felt better after my appt with ART doctor on Thursday afternoon (he really worked on it!) and the short run went well.
Saturday, November 3
Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K
Another fun race! I’ve done this race numerous times and it’s always super crowded. You really have to master the art of weaving through tons of runners – many of which stop to take a lot of photos. I totally get it because you run down 6th avenue (pass Rockefeller Center, etc), but it can get rather annoying!
Sunday, November 4
No workout. Spent some time spectating the NYC Marathon!
Total Weekly Mileage: 7 miles
Summary: 3 runs, 3 spinning classes, 1 Walk
Grade This Week ā C
Not my best workout week by a long shot but at least I did get in some activity. Technically I’m supposed to be training for RnR San Antonio so I’m going to need to increase my mileage as long as my leg continues to cooperate. I’ll also get back to strength training this week since my schedule should be back to normal.
This morning I was thinking about all of the logistics involved with the NYC Marathon. It really is such a well oiled machine. From the Expo to getting to Staten Island to the race course itself, New York Road Runners really does an exceptional job. It really is a huge production!
One new thing I’m doing this month is a gratitude challenge. My friend Michelle posted about it on Instagram and I’m excited to join her. I’m all about putting out extra positivity into the world!
How was your week? Did you watch any of the NYC Marathon coverage? Do you know any runners that ran the race today?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Haha I’d so be a lumberjack for Halloween! Easy and comfy FTW! I always mean to do the 5k before the Chi Marathon but so far I haven’t maybe 2019 will be the year. I like the fun hat! I runfess I missed all of the NYC coverage. My bad.
kookyrunner says
Yup it was super comfy! Not too many people at work dress up for Halloween so I blended in LOL.
I’m sure you can catch up on all the NYCM fun on social media tonight. I feel like my whole Facebook and IG feeds are about the marathon, lol.
Wendy says
I’m pretty much a lumberjack every day I”m not working, so there’s that! LOL! I love the cool shirt you got for volunteering at NYCM. How nice of that lady to bring treats for all of you! Who does that? A nice person, that’s who. We need more of that. I love Michelle’s gratitude challenge.
kookyrunner says
I thought the shirt we got was awesome, I wasn’t expecting that at all! Definitely a great perk š
The lady that bought the treats was an angel – she was super sweet and just full of smiles!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
I LOVE that a runner brought candy for the volunteers! That’s such a great idea, I am doing that in the future. Thanks for volunteering – races really wouldn’t go anywhere without help!
kookyrunner says
It was such a sweet gesture and she was a super nice woman. It was great!
I love volunteering for races because it gives me an opportunity to give back.
Jessie says
Ah, what a great week! I love that a runner brought candy for the volunteers, that is so thoughtful. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I met you in person!
kookyrunner says
I thought that was the sweetest thing and she was such a happy woman. Definitely the highlight of the day for me!
I know – I can’t believe it’s been a whole year! Time flies, that’s for sure.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
It’s awesome that you volunteered at the expo and so nice that one of the runners brought candy! Great job with your workouts this week. That must be really tough to see so many people get laid off at work.
kookyrunner says
I love volunteering, especially for races. I usually volunteer at one of the water station during the race but this year decided to mix it up and volunteer at the Expo. I think I will try to do this again next year!
Yeah work last week was rough but I’m hoping that things will get better soon.
fairytales and fitness says
I get so excited for the NYC marathon (and I’m only watching it on tv…lol), but how wonderful that you get to be involved! I really want to run the Abbot 5K. Will you be writing a race recap? My school actually took a bus trip into NYC on Saturday and I am so bummed that I forgot about the 5K race until Friday night or I would have come into the city to cheer! -M
kookyrunner says
NYCM is like the 2nd Christmas of the year for me, lol. I won’t be writing a race recap since I’ve done it a few times, but I have a race recap from 2016 on my blog if you want to check it out!
Darlene says
I’ve run the Dash twice and I have recapped it on my blog too.
Kimberly Hatting says
OMG…dark chocolate-covered cashews???? I’d be all over that! I actually LOVE the hat…I’m done with t-shirts, even tech-fabric ones. Have I ever mentioned how cute you and your mom are? š
kookyrunner says
It was delicious! I now want to go to Hawaii to find it again, lol.
I think the hat has to grow on me. While I appreciate not getting a shirt since I have so many, the hat will probably be too big for my small head lol.
Awwe thanks Kim! I am just glad I get to do races with her!
Coco says
We got one trick-or-treat-er. ONE. Our neighborhood has a parade and party for the kids, but I still expected older ones to go door to door — I guess they didn’t want to brave our hill! I love how you are using your Peleton to fit in workouts that you might otherwise miss. That’s awesome. How fun to volunteer at the NYCM Expo. And wow on that runner bringing candy from Hawaii to give out — there are still kind, thoughtful people in the world. š I hope the mystery not-pain stays away!
kookyrunner says
Oh that’s such a bummer about the one lone trick or treater!
Having the Peloton bike has been a life saver these past few weeks. I can get a super intense and sweaty workout in just 30 minutes!
The runner that gave the volunteers candy was such a sweet woman! It kind of restored my faith in humanity after all the tragedies of last month.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oddly enough I did watch some of the marathon and usually I don’t. That was so sweet of the woman to bring candy! Yummy!
I did the Dash to the Finish Line a couple of years ago. And the people stopping with the selfies totally annoyed me, but otherwise it was a fun race (except a real bottleneck at the finish, too).
My Dad wanted to know why he didn’t see me running the race. With the elites. Hey, the man is going on 93!
kookyrunner says
I agree with you about the Dash race. While I love it in theory, I don’t really enjoy the actual race. I love the excitement right before and right after, lol.
Lesley says
It was pretty slow in my neighborhood too for trick or treating. There were only two groups, and no mad rush. I donated my candy at work to aprogram that sends it to the troops.
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard from a few people that there weren’t a bunch of trick or treaters this year, so odd!
Hannah says
Hey, at least you had a Halloween costume! I honestly didn’t even consider it.
I love that someone brought candy for the volunteers – and those look so good!
kookyrunner says
I’ve gotten lazier with my Halloween costumes over the year, lol.
Darlene says
Lucky you to be able to volunteer for the marathon and spectate. I wish I lived closer. I do work in the city a lot. Do you live there???
I’ve run the Dash twice. I loved it for the excitement. But yes, it was crowded. no PR expected.
kookyrunner says
I live in Stamford, CT so I’m only 45 mins from Grand Central by train. So it’s not super close to the city, but close enough where I can make the commute.
Farrah says
That definitely sounds like a comfy costume–I should’ve done that this year! š That’s so sweet that a runner brought candy for the volunteers! :]
kookyrunner says
Haha it was the best/easiest costume ever.
chaitali says
That’s so cool you got to volunteer at the NYC marathon expo and run the 5k! That’s really sweet that the woman from Hawaii brought candy for volunteers š
Sandy says
Very cool to get candy from Hawaii and I think it’s great you olunteered for the NYC marathon! I watched it on TV but didn’t know anyone running it. I wish I was there (I didn’t get selected in the lottery). I like the gratitude challenge BTW, I think we can all benefit from a challenge like that.
kookyrunner says
Do you think you will enter the NYCM lottery again? I say keep entering it until you get in – it’s an amazing race!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
How cool that you volunteered at the NYC Marathon expo! I bet that’s a really rewarding experience. I watched the elite women finish and was so inspired by how easy they make it look – truly amazing athletes…
kookyrunner says
It was such an an amazing experience and my first time volunteering at the expo (I usually volunteer at the water stations). The elite women are amazing!
Michelle says
That must have been a great experience volunteering at the marathon! Also, I think the hat is really cute! Personally, I’d probably get more use out of a hat than another tshirt…
kookyrunner says
I love to volunteer for races. Since I run so many every year, I always feel good when I can give back to a race.
I love the idea that we received a hat instead of a shirt but I guess I’m more of a baseball cap kind of gal, lol
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I ran Wine n Dine so no spectating or watching NYC coverage for me, but how cool to be able to live spectate! I’d love to go to one of the majors one day…both to run and to watch other runners!
kookyrunner says
I saw your photos on Instagram this weekend – looks like the races were a lot of fun!
Jenn says
Love it! How cool that you go to volunteer at the Expo! and how sweet of that runner to bring you yummy candy!
I didn’t watch much of the marathon. I wasn’t feeling well and we were attempting to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It sounded like it was a fabulous competition, which always makes it so much better!
kookyrunner says
It was really cool volunteering at the Expo and I think I’ll do it again next year!
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
That’s a great idea for a Halloween costume! It is always so cold here in Maine on Halloween, so that would be perfect for me!!
kookyrunner says
It’s such an easy, and warm costume too!
Liz Dexter says
How lovely that you worked at the marathon expo – that must have been so rewarding. I’ve only been to one race with an expo (Reykjavik marathon) and remember how smiley and lovely the volunteers were. Glad you got a chance to spectate a bit, too. I’m glad you got that joy, and your race, after a hard week.
kookyrunner says
It was definitely an experience volunteering at such a large expo! It was nice to see all the ins and outs and how they are able to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Cari says
Lumberjack!
I only went with fun socks since I didn’t race or anything this year
I do have a cute 26.Boo shirt that I should have dug out
Love the Dash hat – way better than ballcaps they’ve done for some. I hope Lebow is a hat again too
kookyrunner says
The Dash hat is growing on me. I am waiting for it to get really cold outside before I wear it.
Cari says
You didn’t need it today? I had to break out the hat
kookyrunner says
It actually wasn’t too cold yesterday, just super windy!
Cari says
Oh nice. Was bitter cold here. Today was better
