Another work week is coming to an end – Happy Friday! Do you ever wish there were more hours in the day? I know I do! I always see new fitness trends that I would love to try, but I either don’t have enough time, or money, to try them out. Here are a few fitness trends I am thinking of trying in the future.
Taking a Barre class has been on my to-do list for about a year. It’s a low impact, full body workout that targets your hips, abs, arms, thighs and butt. I am really need all the help I can get with my core and hips. It can only help to make me a stronger runner! I think I’ve been scared to take this class because I know I will be sore as hell. It’s also a little expensive but I really should at least try one or two classes.
Body Pump looks like a class that is super fun, but will also kick your butt! The class using light to moderate weights for an effective fat burning and strength training workout. I’ve really been all about the strength training lately so I know this class would be perfect for me. I would love to try this class if I could find one that fit well in my schedule!
I have literally wanted to try this class for about 2 years! I have heard nothing but good things from runners that have taken their classes. I love that the classes are high intensity and only an hour long. There are tons of workouts to choose from – rowing, treadmill, free weights, TRX, etc. I feel like I would never get bored with their workouts. If I hit the lotto, I would love to join the OTF located in my county.
This class looked like an absolute BLAST! Not only does it look like an awesome cardio workout, but I feel like you would also get out a lot of aggression pounding on the drums! I just found out that there is a gym near me that offers this class, so I’m very intrigued and want to try it!
Trail Running
I’ve always wanted to try trail running, but I’m SO afraid of tripping and busting my butt on the trail (L0L). I feel like I have a hard enough time running on the regular pavement,, so I don’t know if I trust myself on a trail. For those of you that run on trails, do you have any tips?!
Today I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.
What fitness trends do you want to try?
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’d love to try trail running. The only trails here are in the forest preserves and there are homeless people who live in the woods…. so needless to say, I’d need my posse to explore those!
kookyrunner says
Oh yeah, safety first when it comes to the trails!
Kimberly Hatting says
Trail running is a great experience! It does work everything from the core and down LOL, especially your ankles. Biggest tip? Look down (at the trail), not necessarily ahead of it…the ground is constantly changing and those tree roots are hard to spot from a distance.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the tips! If I ever did a trail race it would have to be a 5K. I’m too chicken to do anything longer lol
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I have been wanting to try pound classes too looks like a fun new way to sweat it out. Orange theory is fun and def tough workout. Not the biggest fan of body pump bc it is too repetitive for me.
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard that OTF is really hard. I would love to try at least one class to get in a killer workout!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I do Barre-type stuff from a DVD. Although I haven’t for a while. I like those sorts of workouts, though.
Trail running is definitely kind of scary for me! I’ve only done a little bit on non-technical trails.
The rest sound interesting, perhaps someday . . .
kookyrunner says
I think I will try the Barre DVD first before a class.
Sandra Laflamme says
I am a trail runner and love it. Sadly though because I live in the sticks none of these other classes are available. I would love to give some new things a try!
kookyrunner says
Hopefully some of these classes will come to your area, or close to your area soon!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Yes to body pump! I teach it, and I love it! I have taken a pure barre class before which I didn’t care too much for, maybe because it was so new to me and it was hard to get used to the moves they did. I have always wanted to try an Orange Theory class. One is actually coming to our area soon…yay!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that a OTF to coming to your location soon!
Ana says
Trail running is not hard! you have to run slower than your pavement speed, and keep a lookout for branches and rocks, but it is quite pleasant to run without hearing cars and dodging sidewalks. I would say, start at a small park and work your way up.
I really want to try Barre too! but the hours on the studios nearby don’t’ work for me.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the trail running tips Ana!
Jen @ pretty little grub says
I want to do OTF too. I’ve only taken one class and LOVED it. I just need a more convenient location.
kookyrunner says
I’ll definitely try one class since the first class is free. I’m scared that I’m going to love it and then go broke paying for classes, lol
Mary Beth Jackson says
Good choices! I have taken a couple of pure barre classes and they are just ok for me- I like bigger movements 🙂 I have done a little trail running and I am so scared of falling! There is so many things that can tangle my feet up in that I am sure it is dampening the whole trail experience!
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard that barre is a lot of smaller moves – I’m not sure if I would like those either.
I will conquer a trail run…one day, lol
Rachel says
Trails are so fun! Your overall pace will be much slower. Walking is perfectly acceptable. It’s a different kind of run but oh so fun!
kookyrunner says
I can totally handle walking on the trails but I haven’t had the courage to run on them yet, lol
Marcia says
I did not go to Pure Barre but I went to a Barre class at my gym. The instructor had bedazzled everything. I never got past that. Ha! I run trails all the time. It’s fun and relaxing but I run a lot slower than I do on pavement.
kookyrunner says
OH man, I don’t think I could get over the bedazzled stuff either!
Amanda says
I’ve been dying to try Body Pump forever and just haven’t made it yet. This is probably totally off base — but I imagine it as a “Cross Fit Lite” for those of us who don’t have time/money/etc to do the Cross Fit thing. I LOVE Orange Theory, although it is absolutely on the pricey side. Excellent cross training for running though!
kookyrunner says
I kind of have the same idea of Body Pump. I tried CrossFit a few times and it wasn’t for me. I love working with weights so I think Body Pump would be perfect!
vicki says
I just went on my first run on some trails and I really enjoyed it. I just went slower than normal and paid a lot of attention to the ground.
kookyrunner says
Congrats on your first trail run! I will definitely run on the trails some day 🙂
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Ive done Pure Barre a few times in the studio and now I use the DVDs at home. Its a much cheaper option and once you learn the moves you can still get a good workout in at home! I used to take Body Pump all the time! Its such a great workout, but was tough to mix with marathon training. I no longer have a gym membership so I dont take it anymore. They have videos on YouTube and even a subscription so you can access classes from your computer, but its not really the same- plus you need to have the equipment.
kookyrunner says
I think I will invest in the DVD – it’s awesome that they have that option! Thanks for all the information on options for Body Pump!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I so want to try OFT! It’s been on my list forever, but the closest location is still too far of a drive to make an early morning class and get back in time to manage before work/school chaos!
kookyrunner says
I totally understand. The nearest one to me is only about 15 minutes away, but with traffic it could be more like 30!
Reca says
Body Pump is my strength training. I haven’t had a gym membership in two years, but I got the DVDs when Les Mills was still affiliated with BeachBody. I keep wanting to try their OnDemand program as I miss some of the other classes I used to do. And I’m getting bored with my some Pump/Combat workouts, so it m say be soon. Les Mills workouts are effective.
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that you can use the DVDs for a killer workout. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Les Mills workouts.
Farrah says
I’ve tried BodyPump and it’s a lot of fun, but will definitely kick yo’ butt, hahaha. (It kicked mine for sure.) I went back to regular powerlifting since my schedule’s been wonky and I haven’t been able to make it to any classes, but hopefully I’ll get to go back to that again soon! 😛
kookyrunner says
LoL I always enjoy a good butt-kicking workout! I hope that you will be able to get back to powerlifting soon. I know how much you enjoy it!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I’ve never tried any of these activities. I know somebody who teaches Body Pump and would love to take her class sometime.
kookyrunner says
Same here. I have a friend that teaches and I know she’s awesome so I hope I can try out her class soon.
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
I LOVE Orange Theory. There are so many amazing workouts. I wish there were more hours in the day so I could try more of them out.
kookyrunner says
I always wish there was more time in the day and more money in my pocket for everything I want to do!
