Happy Friday – we made it!! Today Iām participating in the Friday Five link up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!.
Two months ago I wrote about my experience with InsideTracker and shared some of my results. Since then I’ve had a chance to implement changes, especially when it comes to my nutrition. Here are my top 5 nutrition changes.
1. Chocolate Almond Milk
I don’t really drink milk that often and had only tried almond milk a few times in the past. I purchased chocolate almond milk for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s SO delicious! Chocolate almond milk is fantastic in smoothies, or you can just drink it plain, and it provides a healthy dose of Vitamin D. I enjoy a glass after a workout as well.
2. Eggs
It’s not that I hate eggs, it’s just not my first choice when it comes to breakfast food. I’m a carbaholic but I’m trying to change this! I’ve been making a point to eat eggs at least twice a week for breakfast. I like that eggs also provide a good source of protein so I stay fuller longer. Next week I’m going to try hard boiled eggs. I haven’t had those since I was a kid!
3. Avocado
Avocados are good for helping with inflammation. I’ve been more diligent about adding avocados in my smoothies. Not only does it make the smoothies creamier, but it also provides a good dose of healthy fats. In addition, I’ll use any excuse to get extra fruits in my diet.
4. Pecans and Almonds
I’m more of a cashew type of girl, but pecans and almonds will help reduce my LDL cholesterol. Right now it’s in the normal range, but I need to bring it dow a few points to be in the “optimized zone”. I also like to have a handful of these nuts for a quick snack (much better than eating junk food)!
5. Dark Chocolate
Dark Chocolate (REAL dark chocolate) helps to increase iron levels and it’s a nice treat! It’s dark chocolate so no further explanation is needed, lol š

These are all awesome nutrition changes! I cannot believe you haven’t had hard boiled eggs in years- they’re so easy and portable. Hopefully they are something you like!

Thanks! It’s really crazy that I haven’t had hard boiled eggs in so long, I know I’m missing out!

All of these things, except the chocolate almond milk, are on my must-eat list. I probably eat eggs (omelets) about 3 times/week. I’ve really bumped up my protein and I feel so much better.
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping that the increase in protein will help me feel better as well. I rely way too much on carbs!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Wondering why you went to almond milk? Did they suggest you stay away from dairy? I’ve thought about inside tracker but it is very $$ and was not sure I would learn anything I did not already know
kookyrunner says
I’ll admit I was a little turned off by the price tag at first, but considering the testing included Vitamin D (which would have been $200+ through my insurance) I considered it a good deal.
They recommended the chocolate almond milk to help my my Vitamin D levels (they were very low). This works out well because I’m not a big fan of dairy milk.
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl says
Hardboiled eggs are my JAM. I eat them every day, two with my breakfast smoothie. They are the only food I can find that actually keep me full in the AM!
kookyrunner says
Thats good to know – Thanks Lora!

Really cool to hear what you are doing with your info.
I am focused on adding in more protein where I can.
kookyrunner says
I think adding protein will help me to eat less and stop snacking so much.
Jen @ SprinklesHikes.com says
I haven’t had a hard-boiled egg in a long time myself… I should make a batch today! Your nutrition changes all look great. I’ve been considering purchasing Inside Tracker myself and will probably get it for my “christmas gift to myself” gift this year š
kookyrunner says
Totally get it for yourself for Christmas – it’s so worth it!

I love avocado! I must remember to incorporate more eggs in my diet as well. I use almond milk almost every day for my post run protein shake. Love it too!!
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping eating more eggs will really help with uppin my protein levels. There’s nothing better than cold chocolate almond milk after a workout!
Mar @ Mar on the Run says
I keep hearing about inside tracker but I’d rather get blood work done through my doctor’s office/work with them on my needs. That’s a lot of money. But whatever works for you! I’m allergic to tree nuts so both avocado and almonds are out for me. I’m not big on eggs either but find hard boiled the easiest way for me to actually eat them!
