Disclaimer: I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review but all opinions below are my own and I was not compensated for this post.
Happy Friday! I’m going to pat myself on the back for doing two book reviews in one month! Today Iām participating in the Friday Five link up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!. Today I want to share 5 reasons you should read Think Happy by Karen Salmansohn.
Karen Salmansohn describes her books as “self help for people who wouldn’t be caught dead doing self help”. I love this! I feel like I totally fit into this category. At the end of last year, I did a review for another one of Karen’s books, The Instant Happy Journal. I was so impressed that I purchased another copy for a giveaway, and I’ve done the same thing this time! You can enter my giveaway at the end of this post!
This book was just released earlier this month so I was very excited to read it! I’m starting to realize that it’s important for me to repeat positive mantras to myself while going through this marathon training process. It’s definitely not easy, but keeping a positive mindset has really helped, especially when it’s 1,000 degrees outside and the last thing I want to do is run!
Categories
I love that the author gives 5 positive things to say for each category in the book. These categories include:
5 things to say when trying something new
5 things to say when feeling grumpy
5 things to say when dealing with major challenges
5 things to say when faced with failures
5 things to say to improve your “self-love life”
5 things to say when dealing with toxic people
5 things to say when you feel stressed out
5 things to say when looking for and maintaining love
5 things to say when you need to forgive and forget
5 things to say to motivate yourself to go for your dreams
Motivation
I’m all about finding motivation anywhere I can! I love that the categories are so diverse because depending on my mood, I can quickly flip through and find some really great quotes.
It’s a quick read
Let’s face it, we are all short on time so sometimes a good, quick read can be much appreciated! It took me less than an hour to get through the entire book. Just because it was quick to read, doesn’t mean that it’s not full of information. If you need a pick-me-up, there are tons of quotes in the book that would do that for you.
It’s portable
I know that e-books are popular, but if I’m reading a book, I want to physically feel it in my hands and turn the pages. I know this may seem weird to some people but call me old school š The great thing about this book is that it’s pretty small and it’s only 128 pages. It’s the perfect size to fit in your purse, backpack or book bag and would make a great read if you’re traveling as well.
5 Things to say to motivate yourself to go for your dreams
This is by far my favorite chapter in the book! When I saw this it just screamed “NYC Marathon” to me. My favorite quote in this category? “Think of life as a competition with yourself to become extraordinary” AMEN! I loved this one so much that I made a copy of it to display on my desk at work. When training, you have to keep a quote like this in the back of your mind to put it all in perspective.
Does all of this sound good to you? If so, enter my giveaway below!
I’m also linking up with Erica and Smitha for their Wednesday Giveaway Roundup!
Giveaway ends on Friday, September 2. GOOD LUCK!!

In answer to your question, I THINK HAPPY by reminding myself of where I came from and why I’m grateful to be exactly where I am everyday.
I love your review of the book and I do want to ask: Have you had any issues with Blogging for Books lately? For a couple months now, I haven’t been able to access their site to post my review of the last book I received from them. They said there was some internal issue they were trying to resolve but after that, I stopped hearing from them.

This is great! When I’m not running I am a mental health therapist and could definitely bring this into my sessions!! I try to think happy by staying positive and reframing when possible- I get a lot of practice with this as I do it with my clients. The only difference between someone caught in a rainstorm who is crying and one who is dancing is their appraisal of the same situation!!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I love that you mentioned reframing, that’s something I am constantly working on as well

I love Karen Salmansohn! I love her Instahappy app and the way she thinks! I try to remember that I “get to” do things instead of have to do them. I try to remind myself of how lucky I am if I feel down.

I love all her quotes! I try to think happy but it’s definitely a work in progress. I tend to get mired in negativity. One of the really good things about the blog is that I work to project a positive face–and that helps me turn my thinking around as well.
kookyrunner says
It’s a work in progress for me too š This morning I had an AWFUL 14 mile long run but I did try to think positive thoughts just to get through it!
