Happy Wednesday! I can barely contain my excitement about running the United NYC Half Marathon on Sunday!
I’ll attempt to contain my excitement for a few more days! Anywho, let’s move on to today’s blog topic – running tattoos! Let me start off by saying that I have no issues with tattoos. I think they are awesome, when done correctly. I only have one tattoo – its a little frog on my left shoulder that I got during my first week of college. I was really feeling my independence and just went to the tattoo parlor on a whim (gotta love that 18-year-old thought process)!
About five years ago I decided that I wanted to get another tattoo, but never acted on it. Ever since last year I have seriously been thinking of getting a running themed tattoo, but I really have no clue what I want! There are literally hundreds of different options to choose from.
Two things that I DO know for sure:
The tattoo will be on my foot, ankle or wrist as it has to be in a spot I can easily cover up due to my job.
It will be a running tattoo. Why a running tattoo? Running is a big part of my life and I have hit so many of my running goals so far. Every time I hit a new accomplishment, I make a new goal. I feel like running will be in my life for a long time (or as long as my body allows me to keep running)!
In doing my research last year, I came across this great post from 2014 from Runner’s World. Runners selected quotes, infinity symbols (probably my favorite), specific races or distances, photos of runners, animals, etc.
I’m a simple person and I don’t really like anything big or flashy, so I’m thinking of doing something related to the infinity symbol (see below):
I would probably add race distances to it as well – 5K, 10K, 13.1 and 26.2 (if I get it after the NYC Marathon). I think it not only fit my personality, but something I could look down at constantly as a remainder of my running accomplishments.
Do you have any running tattoos? If so, how did you decided on the style of your tattoo?
Totally off subject, but don’t forget to enter my nunn giveaway! Just a few more days to enter!

I’ve debated a tattoo for as long as I can remember. I don’t have one bc I’m scared of the pain but I really do want one! I used to want a Dancing Bear (still do) but now I want a running tattoo as well. Question is, will I ever do it? 😉

Depending on the where you get it, the pain isn’t that bad! The one I have on my shoulder didn’t hurt that much at all 🙂

I have a little outline of the winged track foot, with 13.1 in the middle. I got it after my very first half marathon, and it is on my foot. I love it 🙂 I also wanted something simple.

i love your tattoo! It sounds very clean and simple, but still gets a powerful message across!

I don’t have any tattoos, but if I were to get one, it would probably be running related, as well. I’ve been really liking the white ink, too! See you Saturday and Sunday for the half! YEY!
kookyrunner says
Oh I have seen a lot fo the white ink tattoos and I think those look so cool! Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

No tattoos here, but I like the idea of incorporating the distances into an infinity sign.

Thanks Abby! I’m probably going to get it after the NYC Marathon 🙂

I have other tattoos (five) but no running tattoos. I have considered getting some type of hiking tattoo, but I just haven’t figured out what would represent my love of long-distance hiking and my job as a hiking guide. When I figure it out, I’m sure I’ll dwell on it for a few years before getting the ink.
I love seeing people get tattoos when it comes to running or hiking. It’s such a personal journey and is so special to each and every one of us!

I agree Jen! I think it’s such a personal thing to get a tattoo and I really look at tattoos as a wonderful form of art. I love them because they are so unique and have so much meaning.
I hope that you decide to get a hiking tattoo in the future!

Ooh love it!! I’ve always considered getting a tattoo, but stick with piercings instead, because I feel like I’m too flaky to have one! I have been running for a long time but I always worry that if I get a tattoo, it’s so permanent, and what if I don’t like whatever I get tattooed anymore?
I think the moral of the story is that I worry too much. 🙂
kookyrunner says
LoL. I’m kind of the same way, I worry about everything!
You’re right about not liking the tattoo. I actually don’t like the one that I have currently, but I never really see it so I guess it doesn’t bother me! I feel like I will love whatever running tattoo I get because it will remind me of all the races, medals and most importantly, running friends!
