Happy Tuesday! I hope that you’re all having a great week so far. I’m currently recovering from Rock n Roll San Antonio weekend (my quads are angry with me) but today I wanted to share my experience with the ActivMotion bar. If you want to add variety to your workouts, this piece of workout equipment would be perfect for you!
What is the ActivMotion Bar?
The ActivMotion Bar is a bar that contains rolling steel weights that train your body to maintain balance. In fact, “the active resistance inside ActivMotion bars activates muscles of the core and extremities up to 173% more than standard, static fitness tools!” You can use the bar for a variety of workouts, with the most popular being core workouts.
I found their YouTube channel to be extremely helpful! Through their videos I was able to learn how to use the bar properly and I even did a few of the workouts offered on the channel. I feel like this is a great perk of the product. Ever been to the gym and tried a new machine but had no clue if you were using it properly? Yup, been there, done that! With the ActivMotion Bar videos you not only learn how to use the bar, but you perfect your technique as well.
The ActivMotion Bar also comes in a variety of different weights so you can utilize it for different workouts. The weights of the bars range from 3 lb – 18 lb. I decided to get the 10 lb bar. I figured that was a perfect weight as it was in the middle between their lowest and highest weights. While 10 lb may not seem like a lot, trust me..it is! It’s very challenging using the bar to do core work and any moves on one leg. Using the bar for the past few weeks has definitely helped me with my balance (something that could use improvement for sure) and I’ve used it for a few of my PT exercise workouts. Using the bar while doing hip thrusts and bridges adds a whole new challenge, that’s for sure!

I’ve heard so many great things about this bar! It sounds like a great tool to change things up. This might need to be added to my wish list this year!

It takes me getting used to at first but once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed using it for my workouts.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I am enjoying experimenting with mine. It’s fun to get both a balance and a strength challenge at the same tiime
kookyrunner says
I agree, it’s really helping me with my balance.

I love my ActivMotion Bar! We have them at work too, so I can use them for my clients and myself. I always use light ones because they really are quite challenging even with a light weight.
kookyrunner says
That’ great that you can use them when you work with your clients too. I’m thinking of purchasing a lighter bar so that I can use it when I do ab work. I can do abs with the 10 lb bar but not a lot of reps lol

This looks so cool! Knowing how weak my core and balance is, I’d probably need to start with the 3 pound weight! Glad to know that it helps!

No problem! I don’t think I’ll use it for all of my workouts moving forward, but I will definitely use it 1-2 times a week. It’s been great for my PT exercises.
