Happy Wednesday! I just have to get through today and tomorrow and then I’m off to Philly on Friday morning. I’m super pumped ffor Rock ‘n’ Roll Philly even if we are expecting thunderstorms during the race.
Today Iām linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Jen from Pretty Little Grub, Michelle at Fruition Fitness and Nicole from Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday!
I’m always looking for ways to become a better runner, so when the nice people at MilestonePod agreed to send me their pod for review, I was more than happy to try it out!
“The MilestonePod is a simple and accurate tracking device for runners and walkers of all levels. No buttons. No hassle. Just clip and go.”
As you can see, the pod is pretty small and you don’t even feel it when you clip it on to your sneaker. I love that it also comes with very simple instructions as well on how to set up the pod.
In addition, the unit comes with a ‘Go Beyond Pace’ card that highlights all of the different functions of the pod – cadence, foot strike, leg swing, etc.
After clipping the pod on your sneaker, you’re ready to run! The great thing about the pod is that it connects to the MilestonePod app on your phone, so after your run, you can upload the results in real time. No need to connect to a laptop! I used the pod on a few runs throughout the past few weeks and I learned quite a few things..
So I’m a heel striker. I guess I never really thought about this aspect of running. I knew for sure that I wouldn’t fall into the “toe” category, but I thought I might be more of a mid striker…oh how wrong I was! I guess I need to do some research on heel striking, but honestly I’m not going to change the entire way I run because I don’t think that would be comfortable for me.
My cadence isn’t horrible, but it could use some work. My cadence is better on short runs vs. long runs (duh!) but I’ve been slowly trying to improve. On my last run yesterday by average cadence was 174 so I’m slowly improving!
My ground contact is horrible! Granted I’m not aiming for the elite status, but I definitley see this as the largest area for improvement! But luckily I have a low rate of impact which means I should be (in theory) less prone to injuries!
My stride length was just “okay” – not horrible but not great either. I had a feeling that my leg swing was probably low. That’s something I’m constantly working on, especially when my legs get tired and I can feel myself dragging more. I always try to remember to pick up my legs so I don’t trip! I think my favorite feature is the Runficiency – primarily because I love the name, lol. But seriously, this is a great feature because it’s calculated from a few different metrics. I’m slowly working on trying to get my runficiency into the 75-85 range, but I know that will happen once I score higher on some other measures.
I would recommend the MilestonePod if you want to get additional metrics about your running. I am all about ‘knowledge is power’ and also when you know better, you do better, so this technology can only help to improve your running. To learn more, visit MilestonePod online!

I tried out a Milestone Pod a while ago and really liked it but they have updated it since and I am LOVING the data you can see now. They were worth the purchase before and are definitely worth it now- great review!

I guess I didn’t know all the data you could get from this device. I’m kind of a geek about data and I think I’d like this thing!

I love data, even if I have to research what it all means sometimes, lol

Love my pod. Super cheap lots of data!!!
kookyrunner says
I’m all about the data, even if I dont 100% understand it at first!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
This is super interesting! I know my cadence could use some work, but seeing those numbers would give me motivation to work on it.

Same here – I’m a very visual person so for me seeing the data makes me work harder to improve!

Hi Kim. Just stopping by to say we loved your review, especially your focus on the data. š Oh, and don’t worry too much about 100% heel strike – like any foot based wearable, we measure where your foot touches the ground, not where you load your weight. You might load mid-foot and I’d guess you do, as your stride length is not too long. We wrote a blog about this topic recently: http://www.milestonepod.com/heel-touch-v-heel-load/
Anyway, happy running! Nancy – VP Marketing
P.S. Good luck in Philly. I live in Old Town, near Penn’s Landing. š

Thanks for stopping by Nancy! I will be sure to check out the link that you provided as well!

This looks really interesting! I’d love to know my cadence and whether I hit the ground too hard – sometimes I know I struggle with that. It definitely looks worth the price!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree – you can’t really beat the price!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I am such a data nerd so I find this all very cool.
kookyrunner says
I love how much data you get from it for the price – what an awesome deal!

I loved your review, especially your focus on the data.

Thanks Michael! It’s a really handy way to get a lot of running data – I love it!
