Happy Friday! As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get this party started!
I runfess that I’m starting to go a little stir crazy
I’m an introvert by nature, so staying home really doesn’t bother me…but staying home since March is starting to get to me. I’m still really only leaving the house to go grocery shopping and to OTF (when I go back next week). I kind of miss strolling the aisles of Target and spending money on things I never intended on buying, lol. Same goes for browsing the aisles at Marshalls. I also miss traveling – not that I was traveling the world or anything – but I’d love to visit another state. I also wanted to go to a Yankees game this year. Anyways, these are all first world problems and not important at all in the grand scheme of things. I’m happy that I’m healthy and that my family is healthy too so I’ll keep focusing on that!
I runfess that I’m ready for Fall weather
Is it just me or has it been an exceptionally hot and humid summer? We’re currently in the middle of a 2 week heatwave and it feels like it’s never going to end. I can almost deal with the heat but the humidity makes it feel like a swamp, even super early in the morning. August is typically the hottest month of the year so I’m trying to mentally prepare for that and praying that we get Fall temps starting in September!
I runfess that I’m taking another staycation at the end of August
So….basically my job wants to make sure that everyone is using their vacation time (even if technically no one is traveling anywhere, lol). They have asked us to try to use up 40% of our vacation time by the end of August. This makes sense to me since they 1) want to make sure employees do not get burnout and 2) don’t want everyone out at the same time over the holidays in December. This actually works out perfect for me since I never take time off in December anyway. Maybe I’ll venture out of the house for a day trip this time, lol.
I runfess that I would recommend the Peloton Power of Sleep Program
I’m almost done with the 2-week Power of Sleep program. Overall I would say it was good. I’ve noticed what types of meditations work best to help me go to sleep. In addition, I’ve noticed that I prefer meditations with two of the instructors – it’s just something about their voice and delivery. Moving forward I’ll make sure to utilize the sleeping meditation classes every night.
I runfess that I don’t think there will be any road races this year
I should probably clarify that I mean “larger” road races – like half marathons and marathons, just because they typically have many more people. My half marathon in October has been re-scheduled to next March, which totally makes since because it’s in Philly and would probably have a few thousand runners. I think there is still a chance for local, small races (like Turkey Trots) to take place but that’s probably about it. This is why I’m confused as to why the Rock n Roll Race series still has registration open on their website for races in September/October? Those races definitely aren’t happening so why have a registration link on the website? It just seems odd.
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for July?
Wendy says
I’m right there with you–just tired of being home. We do get those trips to Wisco, but even those are confined to the cabin. It’s a tough time. I’m hoping to do a live fall race, but we’ll see…I’m going to write about it for Tuesday’s link up.
kookyrunner says
I hope that you’re able to do a local race in October. If it’s small, there might be ways they can make it happen (fingers crossed)!
Catrina says
I agree with your view about big races not happening.
We have a biggish marathon happening in my city on 6 September and they are still pretending that it’s happening. 8’000 participants! On the same day, at the same place, at the same time.
I can’t see it happening at all.
kookyrunner says
Yeah, it just seems like the larger races, especially with thousands of people, would be very unsafe right now. Then factor in that people will be traveling to these races – it’s just not a good thing!
Darlene says
I am also taking some days off and not going anywhere which is odd for me.
I agree about races. I hope to run one in Oct. but maybe not until 2021. Miss my race cations.
kookyrunner says
I’ve done staycations before but they typically involved at least a day trip, or two. It feels so odd to stay home the whole time but that’s just how things are now.
Deborah Brooks says
I am getting tired of being home too. I also miss the aimless wandering around the mall or target. I miss coffee dates w friends! The little things! I wonder why RnR still has those races up no way they are happening. Hope you find something fun to do during your stay cation-maybe an outdoor lunch date? This heat has been awful the past few weeks. I actually was not to unhappy when I woke up to rain today
kookyrunner says
I enjoyed waking up to the rain this morning too – this is the first day it hasn’t been crazy hot and humid in about 2 weeks so I’ll take it! I’m definitely hoping for an outdoor lunch at some point during my staycation. I feel like I’ll need to find some new ways to stay entertained, especially in the Fall/Winter once the weather gets colder.
Chaitali says
I’m an introvert too and I’ve got to admit that this is getting tough, even for me. I miss vacations and traveling and the concerts and shows we had planned for the year. But like you said, health comes first!
kookyrunner says
I think that if anything 2020 has taught us not to take anything for granted!
Kimberly Hatting says
SO far, there are a few live races “on schedule” in September and October in Iowa. One of them is on a trail (which I’m contemplating registering for, because it would be a new event for me). Another is IMT Des Moines…which has already offered registrants the option to run it virtual if they prefer, but I’m gonna hold out and hope it stays scheduled (I’m doing the 13.1). As you know, Iowa hasn’t been hit as hard as other states, so that’s been a good thing…thus far.
kookyrunner says
I think there’s still a chance for the smaller/local and trail races since it’s probably easier to practice social distancing and there aren’t as many runners. but I worry about bigger races like IMT Des Moines, especially if runners are traveling from out of state to run it.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m so with you on growing tired of being home. Sigh…if people would only behave we could help move this COVID thing along.
I’m glad to hear that sleep meditation program is working for you! I’ll have to take a closer look at that. I’ve been using the sleep meditations on the Insight Timer app (free) and have found some good ones.
kookyrunner says
That’s the key – if people would just have some common sense, and common decency, we could get out of this thing. I have read several times that if everyone would just wear masks and continue practicing social distancing, we could see a huge drop in cases across the country in just 6 weeks.
Marcia says
I’ve seen zero races in this area since March. Big or small. The fall races hanging on and not cancelling don’t make any sense to me. Aren’t we 99.9% sure they’re not happening at this point??
Enjoy staycation number 2!
kookyrunner says
Agreed. At this point all the Fall races should definitely be canceled. I guess some are holding out hoping for a miracle but I just don’t see it happening.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I agree about the road races. I don’t think the big ones will happen. I am also getting tired of being home. For awhile it wasn’t bad at all because I generally don’t like having to leave the house lol, but now its sort of starting to get to me.
kookyrunner says
Same! I don’t really like big crowds so I was never one to always go to malls, etc, but being home this long was not something that I was expecting!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t miss retail therapy *too much*. Probably has something to do with the amount of decluttering I’ve been doing this year! And I am not done. It’s never ending.
I totally long to travel. It’s definitely a #firstworldproblem. But the truth is stress is stress, and a vacation (sort of) let’s me destress. I think we’re gonna have a doozy of a vacation . . . sometime, LOL!
Not running (and pretty much not much else exercise) was kind of a staycation for me this week. It was just what the dr ordered!
kookyrunner says
I feel the same way about decluttering – there’s always more to do. I think I’ve done a good job on decluttering clothing but I need to work on my linen closest next!
I feel like I am going to want to take an extended vacation next year just to make up for no travel this year lol
Denise @runheartfit says
I’m sorry you have been home bound for so long. My life hasn’t changed much. I go to work as usual (so does my husband) and I run, hike and ride my bike. That’s my life. I have been to Target a few times and Home Goods twice but I wear my mask and social distance.
I love the Fall but our summer hasn’t been too bad so far.
Hang in there Kim!
kookyrunner says
That’s great that you’ve still been able to go to work daily and be safe – that’s a huge plus!
Coco says
I’m with you on the wanderlust. Today we hit WEEK 20 of working from home! I actually went to Target for the first time today, but I had to rush because I had to get back home for a conference call. It was blissfully empty and I scored a container of Clorox Wipes. 🙂
I don’t think there will be any races around here. DC extended it’s state of emergency until October (at least).
kookyrunner says
Wow, 20 weeks. Honestly when this first started I thought it would be 2 weeks, 4 weeks tops. I was so wrong! I’m glad you were able to score some Clorox Wipes. Those things are like gold these days!
We don’t have a state of emergency here in CT but there are still restrictions around certain things. My voluntary work from home has been extended through January so I’ll be working from home for the rest of the year.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Holding the Virginia Beach Half Marathon makes zero sense to me since all of Virginia EXCEPT for the Hampton Roads area is doing okay with their COVID numbers. I just can’t imagine that they won’t cancel it, but what do I know?
kookyrunner says
That’s what I was thinking too! It just seems crazy that the Virginia Beach race is less than a month away and they still have the registration link up on their website.
Jenn says
I’m an introvert too. I am getting out a tiny bit, but I’ve been at this since November when I fell. Done. DONE.
Enjoy your staycation! I appreciate that your company is taking care of you like that.
kookyrunner says
It’s just a lot! I just hope that people continue to wear masks and practice social distancing or else we’ll be dealing with this around the holidays and that would be really, really crappy 🙁
San says
Pandemic fatigue is real. I am pretty happy in my little bubble right now, but then I remember that I also like to go for day/weekend trips, that I missed out on a big road trip this summer and that I do like to do a little retail therapy every now and then 😉
kookyrunner says
This is the first time I’ve heard the term pandemic fatigue and it’s so true! That’s exactly how I’m feeling.
Cari says
I have Target wandering down to a science, although mine is a tiny urban Target. Big one TK shortly and I kind of can’t wait. We need to do a Yankee game in the future. Somehow didn’t remember you were also a fan!
Isnt RnR also using those as option for those when Chicago cancelled? Seems unethical, at best
kookyrunner says
Target wandering is one of my favorite activities. I miss it, but my wallet doesn’t lol.
Yup – I pretty much love all the NY teams – Yankees, Giants, Knicks.
Cari says
I’m with you on the first two – never got into basketball although I’ll happily root for them
For staples, Target is cheaper here than the grocery stores
