Happy Friday! Did you have a good week? It seems like March dragged on for a bit but I’m glad that the month is coming at an end. I always find that March is a bit of a weird month. It’s the end of Winter and start of Spring (maybe, lol) and all of those “new year” vibes tend to die down.
As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get started!
I runfess that I’m looking forward to my first race of the season
I have two races in April. Next weekend I’m running the Hot Chocolate 15K in Philly and at the end of the month I’m running the Delaware Running Festival Half Marathon. It will be nice to experience race weekends again. They are always so much fun, especially when I don’t have any goal but to finish the race.
I runfess that my allergies are already kicking my butt
I’ve suffered from allergies since I was in elementary school, so this is nothing new too me. Waking up with one eye shut or both nostrils completely clogged is NOT a good way to start the day, lol. This is why I really hate Spring because it’s literally the worse allergy time of the year. I’ve been taking Zyrtec for years and it seems to work okay, but it’s not great. I also drink Nettle tea which helps with my congestion but I haven’t found anything that gives me 100% relief (maybe that’s not even possible?). If you have any remedies for dealing with allergies, please let me know!
I runfess that I’m looking forward to going church hunting
I’ve been looking for a church home for a while. There’s a church that my family goes to, and I’ve gone there before as well, but I just don’t like some of their practices. It’s not a horrible church or anything, I just don’t feel like it’s the right fit for me. I’ll be checking out a few different churches this Spring and I’m hoping I can find one that really speaks to me. Wish me luck!
I runfess that I’m thinking of giving up meat again
I did this last year for a few months but I don’t feel like I did it the “right way” (i.e. – eating too many carbs, like pasta, to substitute for meat). I’d like to maybe give it another try for about a month this Spring or Summer, but I would do things differently this time. I’m also hoping to rope in my sister this time so we can do it together!
I runfess that I’m looking forward to my vacation next week!
It’s just a staycation, but I’m looking forward to being off work next week. I AM WIPED OUT! I feel like I’ve been burning the candle at two ends when it comes to work so having some time away from everything will be great. Also, it’s my birthday week – yay! In addition, my best friend is visiting NYC with her son for a few days next week so I’m looking forward to seeing them!
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for March?
Chaitali says
That staycation sounds like a great idea! I hope it’s relaxing and recharging :). I’ve definitely felt my allergies start to increase this past week. They haven’t gotten really bad yet but I can tell it’s coming.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m looking forward to some down time 🙂
The Accidental Marathoner says
I only started having seasonal allergy symptoms in the past few years. I woke up with itchy eyes this morning and thought, ‘uh oh, here it comes’. My symptoms aren’t too bad, so I shouldn’t complain. Benadryl works for me.
We have a wonderful church just a few blocks from our home. It just felt right the day we stepped inside. Good luck finding one that fits your needs!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Linda! I’m really hoping I find the right church that feels like home 🙂
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Ooh enjoy your week off! I hear the Philly hot chocolate is a blast but it always seems to be the same weekend as Cherry Blossom. Let me know if you need some help with planning veggie meals. Maybe try something like every other day at first to see how it goes?
kookyrunner says
Yup! It’s always the same weekend hence why i couldn’t do Cherry Blossom with all of you awesome ladies this year 🙁
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I have allergies in Chicago but I didn’t in NYC. I feel your pain! My husband has really bad allergies so I try not to complain.
Racing season kicked off here in Chicago with the Shamrock Shuffle last weekend. It was a blast. I had so much fun at the NYC 1/2, too. I signed up for so many races this year. Woops!
Have a great Staycation!!
kookyrunner says
They are just the worst! I wish I could enjoy the smell of flowers in Spring but that will just send me into a coughing fit, lol
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Can’t wait to hear what you think of the Philly Hot Chocolate – it’s on my list of races to check out.
I feel your pain on the allergies – while spring is not my big allergy season I have been waking up congested. Believe it or not, acupuncture can help!
Yay for a staycation! It seems like you’ve been crazy busy lately so it’s great that you’ll be getting some down time!
kookyrunner says
I did a few years ago and enjoyed it – it’s a really fun race. Not a lot of crowd support though.
i never heard of using acupuncture for allergies – I will have to check that out!
Michelle C says
When I moved to KS in 99 my allergies were SO bad and then after a few years my immune system calmed down and i was fine. Now, 20 years later I have allergies again! WTH body????
kookyrunner says
Ugh that’s so frustrating!
Laurie says
Hope you have a nice staycation and get some rest!!! I guess I sound like a mom, don’t I? 🙂 Both of your April races are very appealing. I love the distance of a 15K and I have never done a Hot Chocolate run before, but they sound like fun. The Delaware race has always looked good to me. I have done plenty of races in Wilmington, but never that one. Maybe next year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Laurie. I’m looking forward to some rest.
I love the 15K distance too – I wish more races would offer that.
Kimberly Hatting says
I used to have horrible allergies, and they got worse as an adult. Finally, I was referred to an allergist (both for my skin and my sinus issues), and she HIGHLY recommended allergy shots. It was a 3-year commitment (I think? or maybe it was longer…), and I had to go in weekly. It was totally worth it, though. I barely even have a stuffy nose anymore or blurry eyes.
kookyrunner says
I’m on the fence about the allergy shot because of the time commitment, lol. It’s been recommended to me by my doctor and an allergist a few times.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t sufmuch with allergies but the only thing i’ve heard that really works is the shots.
Giving up meat & eating more carbs would probably not work really well!
Good luck finding a church you enjoy. It’s something very personal. And enjoy that staycation!
kookyrunner says
LoL, it didnt! I gained a few pounds and I barely had any energy. It didn’t help that i was also marathon training during that time.
Wendy says
I have given up red meat (almost) and I eat mostly veggie–it’s really amazing how much better I feel. I need the protein tho, so chicken and fish are still staples in my diet. I also watch the carbs.
Good luck on the church search. I tried that back when the boys were little. But what I’ve learned is that for me, there’s nothing more fulfilling than a Sunday morning run. Just me and nature.
kookyrunner says
I think eventually I will do the same. I don’t really eat a lot of pork (only bacon) so that will be easy to give up eventually. I also rarely eat meat meat but every now and then I do enjoy a burger.
Also, your comment came through normally – no spam!
Coco says
Oh, wow, church hunting is hard — I think it takes a lot of courage to walk in the door. I hope you find a place that feels right. It took a bit of time for me to feel at home in my current church, but once I joined in on a few service projects, I felt like I belonged. Other than limited menus on business trips, I’ve found it pretty easy to give up meat, but I’ve been eating a lot of fish and eggs. Indian food and Mediterranean food have a lot of options. 😉
kookyrunner says
Thank you! I would love to find a church that does a good amount of service projects.
Smitha says
I”m vegetarian all my life and Indian, so there are plenty of options. It’s not too hard to go meatless, I’ve been told; just to adjust the perception of feeling full 🙂
kookyrunner says
I think I struggle with finding foods that will help me stay full longer. I’m going to try to eat more dishes with beans and chickpeas for added protein.
Renée says
happy for your first race coming up! not happy you are wiped out. happy again you will have a staycation! any fun/ relaxed plans?
(my blog is finally updated and moved – I’m over at runlaugheatpie.com now!)
kookyrunner says
So happy that your new website is up and running!
Marcia says
Good luck with finding a church you like. When I was a church goer I well remember being selective of the clergy doing the mass. I definitely had my faves. I was worried about allergies in Atlanta because everything is in gorgeous bloom there but didn’t notice more than a tough of allergies. Hope this season isn’t too bad for you. Cheers to kicking off the racing season!
kookyrunner says
I went to a new church today which I actually really liked. I’ll keep going for a few weeks to see if its a good fit.
It’s funny how allergies can be so bad in one state, but totally fine elsewhere!
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
I agree with March dragging on! However, it is warming up here and I have been able to run outside for the past 2 weeks..woohoo!!! The Chocolate 15k sounds like a blast!! I will be following your journey there on IG!!
kookyrunner says
Yes, it’s been warming up here for a few days, but then it goes back to cold weather, lol.
Esther says
Girl, I feel ya on the allergies! I didn’t really have them growing up in the north, but when I moved to TX, they were full force!
I am not a fan of medications, so I did a lot of the natural remedies till I found my combo that worked. I use elderberry syrup, tea with natural honey, and I make a roller blend with essential oils (if you want, I would be happy to send you one to see if it gives you some relief).
Praying you find a church! I know the challenge. My husband and I looked for almost 2 years before we settled on a little one near our house!
Hope your races go well!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for sharing your natural allergy remedies! I was already planning on trying essential oils and I’ll definitely pick up some elderberry syrup.
Thanks so much for the well wishes on the church search!
Darlene says
Enjoy your staycation. It’s something that I need but never take. I only don’t work when I travel.
I’m running a Hot Chocolate race at the end of April too. In Brooklyn.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene. I hope that you decide to take a staycation this year – it’s really good for the soul!
Sandra D Laflamme says
Even a staycation is awesome! Enjoy it! And hope your allergies clear up a bit. I am an allergy sufferer too and they are no fun at all.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sandra!
Rach says
Allergies have been rough for me too – and they say it’s going to be worst season in CT in years! I’ve had nasal surgery to open my passages, take multiple meds a day, and sleep with a air purifier…and I’m still not happy. I’ve got no answers LOL
kookyrunner says
Yeah I heard that on the news and let out a big sigh, lol. I m going to try a few new things this year. Hopefully something works!
