Happy Friday! How are you? I hope that you and your families are healthy and well. That’s the most important thing these days!
Wow – March has been quite a month! I’m sure that we all have so much to runfess this month.
As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get this party started!
I runfess that I’m thankful for technology
All I can say is thank goodness for technology during these crazy times! Technology has allowed me to work from home without any issues, something I am super thankful for considering how many people have unfortunately been laid off in the past few weeks. My heart breaks for them š I’m also thankful that technology has allowed me to stay connected, and also re-connect, with friends and family. I’ve done a few virtual happy hours and virtual dinner chats and it’s been so enjoyable. Yes, we’re all stressed about the current state of the world, but it’s nice to disconnect from all the negativity and have carefree conversations every now and then.
I runfess that I’m struggling with at home workouts
I don’t think that I’m struggling with motivation, because I still want to work out, but I’m really missing my OTF Stamford crew and my weekend running crew. I’m not a huge extrovert, and I like my alone time, but I do enjoy the group atmosphere when it comes to my workouts. There are literally hundreds of options for at-home workouts, so that’s not the issue, but I just find myself getting bored when working out solo. I’m hoping it’s just a funk that will pass quickly because last week I felt great, but this week, not so much.
I runfess that I have a new appreciation for the great outdoors
I guess not really being able to go anywhere really makes you appreciate being outdoors! Since I’m sitting most of the day I make sure to get outside for a walk either during my lunch break or right after work. It’s nice to enjoy fresh air and also see how many other people are out going for a run, or walking their dogs or walking with their children.
I runfess that I want to use this extra downtime to be productive
It would seem silly not to take advantage of all of this extra free time at home! I’ve actually been working longer hours now that I’m working from home (not by choice!) but once I get these two projects complete next week I’ll have more free time. There’s plenty of decluttering projects to do around the house so I will get started on those. I’ll probably end up watching some stuff on Netflix too but I don’t want to spend all of my extra free time in front of the TV.
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for March?
Wendy says
I’m grateful for technology so that I can do virtual patient visits at home, but they want us to do video visits and I’m struggling with that, lol! There’s a tutorial and I’m going to play with it today. If nothing else, this pandemic will teach us all kinds of new skills!
kookyrunner says
That’s so great that you can do virtual patient visits! Good luck with the video visits – I have no doubt that you will master those too.
Catrina says
I am looking forward to having more time during this lock-down! I haven’t read a book in the last 3 months or touched my Spanish lessons, and there’s a lot of decluttering to be done!
Looks like we will all be super-organized when the pandemic is over, haha!
kookyrunner says
I am looking forward to reading more once I have more downtime – it will be nice!
Coco says
Iām so glad I upgraded our wi-fi when I saw this coming. Before my husb and I couldnāt both be on line for work b/c the VPNs take up a lot of bandwidth. So far itās working. I agree on the home workouts. I think thatās why I am liking Peleton ones the best ā most like being coached at OTF. I donāt have more free time yet. Maybe after next week work will settle down, but for now my productivity is low so itās taking me longer to get things done
kookyrunner says
That was super smart to upgrade your wi-fi! I agree that the Peloton workouts do feel very similar to being coached at OTF, especially any workouts with Jess!
Marcia says
I’ll bet not having your OTF fam is hard! I have never been so grateful for fresh air and being able to run outside. So therapeutic! Because of the huge ZOOMA group I’m coaching I’ve got a ton on my plate right now.
kookyrunner says
It’s super hard, but thankfully I am in contact with members from the gym every day so that’s been nice.
Deborah Brooks says
The technology has been great and at least lets us stay connected with friends. I do miss my running friends terribly! My home workouts are going pretty well and thank goodness for Peloton. I am liking trying new classes and will hopefully keep those up. Also appreciating the outdoors more and so many other things. Have a good weekend š
kookyrunner says
I haven’t done the Peloton strength workouts in a while so I’m going to start doing those again. I think I need to constantly mix things up so I don’t get bored!
Laurie says
I can imagine you are missing your OTF, Kim. YOu were really going great with that. Maybe this will reignight your love for running again. At least we can still put our shoes on and head out the door. For now! š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Laurie. It’s been a bigger adjustment that I imagined, but I’m still in touch with members from the gym daily which is great.
Darlene says
I could have written this.
Not being productive with the extra time of not driving to work.
Online workouts donāt motivate me.
Yes. I make myself leave the house at lunch. I need air!!!
kookyrunner says
The fresh air feels so good, especially after being cooped up all day in the house!
Kimberly Hatting says
My free time hasnāt really increased since my work schedule s the same as before (for now). Iām used to doing at-home workouts, so thatās not an issue either. Sorry for your OTF withdrawal, I know thatās a huge disruption to your routine. Hoping our regular ānormal ā returns soon! Hugs to you <3
kookyrunner says
The OTF withdrawal is hitting me hard this week but I know that it will pass!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I have definitely been running more. Everything may be closed but trails are still open. However they have been packed lately! I have hard time motivating myself to workout inside the house too.
kookyrunner says
I’ve noticed more people out walking around my neighborhood and at the parks too.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Having the technology to stay connected has been so helpful – especially staying connected with friends!
I can imagine how much you are missing OTF – I miss it too but wasn’t going nearly as often as you. The at-home workouts are definitely an adjustment and just not the same!
Here’s hoping this new “normal” is short-lived!
kookyrunner says
For sure! I find myself checking in with people more throughout the day. This is such a stressful time and I just want to make sure that everyone is okay and hanging in there.
The in-home workouts are kind of hit or miss. The coaches at my gym have bee doing some of the at home workouts live on Instagram so that gives me a little more motivation to get them done!
Jenn says
I’m so glad you are able to work from home. So can Mr PugRunner, and little man will start e-learning on Monday.
I have been terribly unproductive. I like to think I am pacing myself, because we still have weeks of this left.
kookyrunner says
I think that your right to be in the mindset of “pacing yourself” because this whole process will for sure be a marathon and not a sprint. I’m trying to wrap my head around at least 6 more weeks of this – oh boy!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Unfortunately COVID19 will bring a lot of heartbreak with it. š
I’ve always been a walker, up here, down in TX, when I was a kid . . . it’s one thing I’ve always enjoyed doing.
I’m sorry you’ve been in a home-workout funk. Maybe once work settles down a bit? And yes, I think we’ve been given an opportunity — I actually plan to write a post on it!
kookyrunner says
I’m so thankful for my daily walks – I swear they keep me focused and sane.
I think that once work settles down things will get better, but the only issue is that I don’t know if things will slow down anytime soon š
Chaitali says
I’m definitely grateful for technology right now! It’s been helpful for working at home but also for entertainment and staying connected with people. I think I’d be going a little crazy without it.
kookyrunner says
Same here! I love that I can use Microsoft Teams to stay connected to my colleagues and other video platforms to connect with friends and family.
MCM Mama says
My husband is working crazy hours from home – way more than his normal. But I guess I’ll take it over the alternative. I still have some work to do and the library is paying subs for their average number of hours per week, so I still have some money coming in.
I really need to declutter, but our county has asked us to go easy on the trash and recycling, so I’m somewhat incentivized NOT to do anything LOL.
kookyrunner says
This morning I cleaned/organized my closets so I felt a little productive, lol.
Elaine D says
Grateful for technology as well to help us all stay connected. Interesting how Zoom has become a trendy word now with so many people using it. You’re right about having extra time! I’ve done a number of decluttering projects already. We will have a big donation pile in the next few weeks. Is OTF hosting virtual workouts? I think I’ve seen someone host a virtual workout on Zoom so you can see everyone doing the same workouts.
kookyrunner says
Yes, I bet Zoom is loving all of the people using their platforms now. I hope that these virtual meetings continue even after we’re able to socialize again.
Cari says
Ditto on technology, and I also want to be more productive. it seems to happen in spurts. I do need to unpack one bag of laundry though as I’m running out of underwear and need to send out this week’s laundry. First world problems.
kookyrunner says
Today I spent the morning cleaning/organizing my closet so I felt somewhat productive, finally, lol.
Cari says
I switched over my closets. Didn’t purge anything though since thrift stores are closed. Still need to do the drawers
The Accidental Marathoner says
I thought of you missing OTF – I know how much you love it and how dedicated you’ve been! I actually hate going to gyms and prefer to run and workout alone, but with everything going on, I’ve really lost a bit of my workout mojo. Stay healthy!
kookyrunner says
It’s been rough but I also know that not going to OTF is a “first world problem” so I don’t want to complain/dwell on it too much! I feel like my motivation is still around, but the workouts aren’t “fun” because they are solo so that’s what I most struggle with.
