Happy Friday! Another month in quarantine complete. It’s crazy that this year has seemed super long and we’re not even half-way done with it yet. As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get this party started!
I runfess that I thought I would save money during this “Stay at Home” time
When this first started in March, I was convinced that I would save so much money. While this is partially true – I haven’t spent money on clothes, gas for my car or Orangetheory since March – I have spent so much more money on Amazon and at the grocery stores. I’m also convinced that the the grocery stores have increased their prices on certain items. They definitely don’t have as many sales either. Hopefully things will even out in a few months. I think we’ll start to see normal prices once the aisles are stocked with toilet paper and paper towels again.
I runfess that I’m feeling a little uninspired to blog lately
I haven’t really felt like blogging lately because honestly I don’t have much to say. Besides the Weekly Run Down and my Tuesday Topics posts, I don’t feel like I have much to contribute. I’m sure part of it has to come from being inside most days. Maybe I’ll feel more inspired once I’m able to get out of the house more? Anyone else feeling the same way?
I runfess that I won’t be running back to OTF as soon as they open
While I don’t have the official opening date, gyms are allowed to open in CT on June 20th, so I assume OTF will open on that day or a few days after. As much as I miss it, I’m not going to rush back the day they open. Realistically, I’ll probably go back sometime in July. I know a few studios in other states have already opened back up and some of the changes include shorter classes (45 minutes instead of 60 minutes), temperature checks before class, maximum class size of 15 and wearing masks while working out. I appreciate that it seems like they are doing everything necessary to keep us safe, but I’m still a little anxious about group fitness classes right now.
I runfess that I get super annoyed when people don’t follow the rules in regards to social distancing
I know it probably shouldn’t bother me so much, but it infuriates me when I see people ignoring the social distancing recommendations. The photos from all the beaches on Monday just made me shake my head. I completely understand that people want to go out and get back to normal, but just because you’re tired of the virus doesn’t mean is miraculously went away. People behaving irresponsibility will result in another serious wave of cases/deaths in the Fall. Then there’s the people that bitch and moan about having to wear a mask in a store. Is it seriously that much of an issue? Imagine how those in the medical field feel wearing a N-95 mask for hours at a time (it literally leaves marks and bruises on their faces because it’s so tight). But you can’t wear a mask for 45 minutes at Costco? I’m always amazed at people that feel inconvenienced from the smallest thing – like seriously, grow up!
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for May?
Catrina says
I’m not going back to a gym either – I can’t imagine that it feels very comfortable to work out there. I rather do my workouts at home with the help of a video. Or even better, go outdoors.
It’s hard to blog when you’re locked up inside – but I always look forward to your posts and read about what you’re up to. And once you get out and about you’ll definitely feel more inspired!
kookyrunner says
Yeah I’m definitely anxious about going back to the gym. I miss it, but is it really safe? I think that’s something I really have to think about. I may go back and not like it due to the restrictions. I guess time will tell!
Wendy says
100% agree with you–I don’t get what people don’t get about social distancing and immunity and ok, vaccines. Welcome to my world where everyone who can Google stuff thinks they know more than people who are experts on this stuff. I’m just exhausted by all the anti-maskers posting on FB. Last week one of my friends told me she can’t breathe in a mask and I pointed out that my colleagues on the front lines wear N95 masks for 12 hours! Went right over her head. OK, rant over….but I sure am glad I’m not alone in feeling this way.
Hang in there, Kim….
kookyrunner says
I find myself having to hold back from leaving comments on FB – it’s hard, lol. Oh, and please don’t get me started on the people who don’t want to wear masks calling themselves patriots. That one gets the biggest eyeroll from me.
Cari says
I have never heard a work misused as much as patriot in the last four years
Coco says
I’ve been spending more at the grocery store too, but since we aren’t going out to eat (or getting take-out) I think that balances out. My big savings is on not parking at work — that costs a shocking few hundred dollars per month.
I am really not sure what I’m going to do about OTF. I had just bought a 30 pack and hadn’t even started using it, but I’m not going to go if we have to wear a mask (which I fully support in other circumstances!) and probably won’t feel safe if we don’t ….
Work has kept me too busy for extra blogging, plus I need a break from my computer!
kookyrunner says
I think I read online that for anyone that has a pack of classes, you’ll be able to use all remaining classes on that pack. I agree about the mask – I have no clue how I’ll be able to do it but I understand if that’s a requirement.
That’s a good point about needing a break from the computer. Maybe that’s why I don’t want to blog – all that extra time now goes to work!
Marcia says
Mostly my blogging happens only once a week these days. Without races there’s not much to say that hasn’t already been covered. Our grocery bills are way up too, although we barely eat out so I think we are still saving. I’m not sure we’ll rejoin our gym when it opens, especially since the Caveman will be out of commission for at least 4 months. THanks for ‘fessing!
kookyrunner says
That’s a good point. We’re definitely saving money by not going out to eat, although I do miss my favorite restaurant. They are open for outdoor seating only, but it still makes me nervous so I haven’t gone yet.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m not a gym-goer, but our youngest daughter and son are. The daughter has been going in the “after hours” (like at midnight) because it’s a 24-hour facility and no one else is there. I’ve noticed some prices at the store are escalated….supply in demand. One of our stores has been selling single rolls of TP for $1.00 LOL
kookyrunner says
That’s smart of your daughter to go during the off peak times – great way to practice social distancing!
We’ve noticed that the prices of meat ans cleaning products has gone up, but I guess that’s to be expected.
Deborah Brooks says
I am so not ready to go back to any fitness classes in person for a long time. Hot yoga was kind of gross to begin with!
kookyrunner says
I hear ya! The thought of it gives me pause. I really miss my OTF classes but I’m concerned all the restrictions may be too much.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I’ve been doing my shopping on Amazon fresh and I’ve definitely noticed an increase in prices. Or they are out of some of the items that are usually cheaper so I will end up buying a more expensive version. I don’t think I’ve saved money over the last few months thanks to ordering things online!
It frustrates me too when people dont follow the rules.
kookyrunner says
I havent been able to get Amazon Fresh or any grocery delivery in my area (the slots are always full) but we did order meat from Omaha Steaks and Butcherbox. Definitely more on the pricey side, but the good thing is that we’ve eaten less meat because of it, lol.
Fairytales and Fitness says
Oh I totally agree with you on the mask thing! Also, yes we have seen an increase in grocery prices…$11.49 for a 4 pack of TP!
kookyrunner says
ow, that’s an insane amount of money for toilet paper!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
My friends are socially distancing running together (if that makes sense) & brunching. I’m not quite ready for that. Taking a wait & see attitude. Much as I would definitely like to be running somewhere else!
I think we are actually saving some money but hard to tell. Definitely more on Amazon . . . the big savings is no travel. And that’s the one thing I really want to do (although don’t anticipate doing anytime soon).
kookyrunner says
Technically my weekend run crew could meet up since we have less than 10 people, but none of us are ready for that quite yet. Maybe next month or July – we’ll just see how the COVID-19 numbers are in our state.
I forgot about not traveling, that’s such a huge savings right there!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m so with you on being frustrated with people and the lack of social distancing – I have had it with people on social media!
I also can’t see racing back to OTF, despite how much I miss it.
My blogging is down to just once a week – I feel bad that I haven’t been more active with the Tuesday Topics, but I’m really struggling with having much to say without a race to train for.
kookyrunner says
I stay off Facebook for the most part because it makes me crazy and I don’t want to fight with people in the comments section, lol.
I agree – I think not having races to train for really limits what I have to talk about.
Laurie says
I’m with you on getting annoyed when people don’t follow the social distancing rules. The irony is many of the same people who are complaining about their “God-given rights” being taken from them (pretty sure there is nothing about the right to go golfing in the Bible) are the same ones telling others to “Follow the rules”. I guess that’s just the rules they personally approve of. Sorry for the rant! You touched a nerve.
kookyrunner says
It’s amazing isn’t it? Oh, and I love how people not wanting to wear a mask call themselves patriots. The lack of common sense is astounding!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I heard on the news that grocery prices have definitely gone up since mid-March. Let’s hope they go back down as quickly as they rose.
As of today in Virginia, gyms can hold classes outside. I’m not sure when they’ll be able to open for indoor classes.
kookyrunner says
Fingers crossed that the grocery prices go down and that the stores can actually stay stocked with paper products by the end of the summer. My stores are more well stocked now but there’s still an empty aisle for all the napkins, toilet paper, etc.
Farrah says
I haven’t been spending as much, but definitely haven’t saved as much as I thought I would either (probably due to wanting to support small businesses/my gyms and such..). I don’t know when/if I’ll be going back when they do end up opening again either. :/
kookyrunner says
I’ve been trying to support our local restaurants 1-2 times a week. I feel so bad for them because I know they have lost out on so much money over the past few months 🙁
Jenn says
The only reason I’ve had any content is because I’m building back up so that’s giving me a little something to write about.
Our gyms are all open and I’m not at all surprised that people are flocking back. It’s not where I would want to be, but others feel differently. Everything just feels so weird and it’s so hard to know the right things to do.
kookyrunner says
Same here – I would say it’s about 50/50 about people wanting to get back to the gym immediately and waiting a little while to go back.
Cari says
I’m not sure how I’ll feel about gyms. I don’t do classes and mine can be pretty empty at times. I think it’s going to be interesting to see what we learn about AC’s role in spread. I think personally running on a treadmill with a mask would be easier than running in the park in the summer heat, but we’ll see.
I spent about 2/3 of what I did last year. It’s not exactly accurate as the refunds that hit counted against my spending this year, but I think it’s close. I’m definitely not buying clothes, buying lunch every day at work or having sushi on the weekend. Plus no travel. Even buying way more in groceries, it’s a savings. Somehow.
I thought I’d be better able to keep up on blogs. Nope. My eyes need a screen break “after” work
kookyrunner says
Very true about running on a treadmill vs outdoors is using a mask. I’ve been running outside with a buff and it’s getting to be increasingly difficult, especially if it’s humid.
Totally with you on needing a “screen break”. Being at the laptop so long can be hard.
