Happy Friday! Anyone else in disbelief that Halloween is next week? I always feel like the rest of the year flies by after Halloween because the holidays are always so hectic/busy.
As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get this party started!
I runfess that I’m looking forward to volunteering at the New York City Marathon Expo next week
Last year I volunteered at the NYCM Expo and it was so much fun so I’m looking forward to doing it again! This year I’ll be giving out the official race shirts on 11/1 from 9am – 2pm. If you’re running NYCM and will be at the Expo, stop by and say Hi! 🙂
I runfess that my nutrition has gone off the rails
I’ll admit that my post-marathon nutrition has not been the best. I’ve been using this week to start the process of getting back on track – meal prepping, etc. It’s a process, but I know that I’ll be able to get back to my 80/20 plan (eating healthy 80% of the time / indulging 20% of the time).
I runfess that I’ve already started looking at races for 2020
I had a lot of down time last week so I started looking at races for 2020. I haven’t registered for any races yet, but I really want to do the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon because you get to run through Canada. I’d also like to try to get out to Seattle for a race so that I can visit one of my best friends.
I runfess that I’m secretly excited about Hell Week at OrangeTheory Fitness
Hell Week officially started yesterday and I can already tell it’s gonna be a week full of intense workouts. What exactly is Hell Week? It’s a grueling but fun series of workouts in the days leading up to Halloween and runs from October 24-31 every year. The goal is to complete a minimum of 5 out of 8 workouts during that week. If you do this, you get the official Hell Week shirt. Each workout will have a theme as well. Although it sounds intense, I’m kind of looking forward to the challenge!
I runfess that I’m looking forward to doing more Peloton rides
Although I tried to keep up with all of my workouts during marathon training, my Peloton cycle classes took a big hit. It was really hard for me to fit in the cycle classes because I didn’t want to slack off on strength training (boot camp, OTF classes). now that my schedule has opened up more, I’m planning on getting in 2-3 cycle classes a week and I can’t wait because I’ve really missed it!
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for October?
Coco says
Oh, wow, volunteering at the expo sounds like so much fun! My eating is off the rails with my over-active thyroid. I am starving! For the moment my thyroid is burning it off, but that will end as soon as I get meds — hopefully today. I did my first hell week workout today.
kookyrunner says
Volunteering at the Expo is always overwhelming but lots of fun!
Laurie says
so cool that you’re volunteering at the NYCM expo! What a cool thing to do. Since I’ve been back from my travels, I’ve been having a hard time with my eating too. I pick up all kinds of bad eating habits when I travel and now I can’t shake them! Ugh!
I can suggest a wonderful marathon close to Seattle (we stayed in Seattle and traveled to the race): any of the Tunnel marathons. They are easily the easiest marathon course I have ever run. Literally ALL downhill, but just a gentle downhill, not a quad-trasher.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the race recommendation – I’m gonna look it up!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
It is hard to get eating back on track especially this time of the year. I really love my Peloton classes as you know and also try to do them 3 times a week. I was wondering how people were hitting all these milestones so quickly and realized they do 2 shorter classes instead of one longer. May try that some more.
kookyrunner says
It’s funny you mention that because I was thinking of doing that – Instead of a 45 min class maybe 2 20 minute classes with different instructors. I think that makes things interesting.
Sandra D Laflamme says
More peloton rides! Awesome. I am still dreaming about getting a peloton. Maybe for Christmas! I too am looking at races for next year and am thinking about my first 50K.
kookyrunner says
A Peloton bike would be an awesome Christmas gift!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I’ve been considering the Detroit marathon too! There are so many fall races that sound good but I’m just not sure when and where makes the most sense. Good luck with your hell week workouts!
kookyrunner says
Kim (@runningonthefly) said she might do Detroit too. I think I see a blogger meet up happening next year 🙂
Chaitali says
Volunteering for the New York Marathon sounds like a lot of fun! And I’ve heard great things about that Detroit race. It would be pretty cool to say you raced in two countries in a day 🙂
kookyrunner says
It’s a lot of fun, especially volunteering at the Expo!
Kimberly Hatting says
Ummmmm…I want to run Detroit, too!!! It’s always near the same time as Des Moines, though. I’ll have to check dates for 2020…a #KimReunion needs to happen regardless 🙂
kookyrunner says
Okay so I’m like 90% sure I’m doing Detroit next year so yes, a #kimtwin reunion needs to happen! I am spoiled since I saw you twice last year 🙂
Marcia says
How fun to be volunteering at the expo! Isn’t it so nice to have the marathon behind you so now you can enjoy the holidays and planning for 2020? Running Canada and Seattle are both great ideas. I read a thing about Peloton recently that shocked me. Despite 915 million in sales for fiscal 2019 they posted a 196 million dollar loss and don’t expect to be profitable until 2023. How can a company that is so wildly popular be losing money?? I don’t get it.
kookyrunner says
It’s so much fun volunteering at the Expo, eventhough it’s always a little crazy, lol.
Whoa I didn’t see that about Peloton and I can’t wrap my head around how that’s possible?!?! I need to do some research on this!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I would love to volunteer at a marathon, I hope you have a great time! My eating has been HORRIBLE. I try to blame the Halloween candy that’s always within reach LOL. I have to remember I’m eating for 2! All I know for 2020 is that I will be doing the Philly Half Marathon that I had to defer from this year. That’ll probably be my first big post-partum race! People seem to really love the Detroit half, I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
kookyrunner says
LOL the Halloween candy is such a trap! And yes, you have an excuse as you’re eating for 2 🙂
Darlene says
Oh no. I work on Nov 1. I won’t be going to the expo until Nov 2 in the afternoon.
You will be at the marathon, right? Let me know where and when?
I am looking forward to 2020 as well. I;’m running a half in Bermuda in Feb and then some local ones. My friends are looking a a race-cation in the fall. Maybe the Finger Lakes or RI.
Detroit sounds awesome. But flights = $$$
Hope to see you next weekend.
kookyrunner says
Yup, I’ll be at the race – mile 18 (runners left)!
That half in Bermuda sounds like so much fun. I wish I could have done that one but the flights were super expensive unfortunately.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
It’s just really hard to eat well this time of year — even without marathon training! Mine hasn’t been terrible, but it also hasn’t been as good as it could be. Somehow I’m still mostly maintaining my weight, so I guess I’m doing something right.
Have fun at the expo!
kookyrunner says
Yeah I was just hoping to get it a bit more under control before the craziness of holiday season. That way I don’t go completely off the rails lol
Cari says
I’ve avoided the Taper Ten thanks to the cold and subsisting on matzoh ball soup. But like Judy said, weather doesn’t help with healthy eating.
I need to think beyond Feb 2020 – I have a bunch on the books but not after
kookyrunner says
Yeah it’s hard to stay on the healthy track during the holiday season, that’s for sure!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I bet working the NYC expo is so much fun!
My eating has gone off the rails…hello wine! LOL!
I’ve been planning 2020 too and think I’ve got a lot of it figured out but I still need a fall half.
Good luck with Hell Week!!
kookyrunner says
The NYCM expo is crazy, but in a good way! I really enjoyed volunteering there last year and I have no doubt this year will be great too.
Wendy says
I’m glad you get to hop back on the Peloton. One of the best things about not training for anything is being able to do anything you want! I love the freedom. One summer when I was training for Chicago I was so fearful of getting injured that I didn’t waterski. Oh, the horror! :p
kookyrunner says
It’s so nice having the freedom to run when I want and to do other exercise when I want as well!
Renée says
Marathon training does actually take away from other things that you like doing. I think that’s what I miss too. Not just running but everything. It’s good and fun too to get back to “basics”! I totally get that you missed your peloton classes!
have fun at NYC expo! i want to volunteer as well for Rotterdam or Amsterdam – maybe the latter depending on timing since I hope to be running the 10K at Rotterdam in April as well (hmmm, can you volunteer and run??? it’s “just” 10K…haha).
when’s Detroit? the Free Press has also been on my radar for a while. I blame Martinus (“300lbs and running” but I’ sure you know who I’m talking about?) for that.
kookyrunner says
Next year the Detroit Free Press race weekend is October 17-18. If I do it next year I’m planning on doing the 1 mile and 5K that Saturday and then the international half on that Sunday. You know I always want the extra bling, LOL.
Meranda@fairytailsandfitness says
You are right. This time of year seems to fly by!
I have not even thought about races for 2020 but getting to start one in the USA and run through Canada sounds fun!
Have fun T the shirt booth this weekend ! -M
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m looking forward to volunteering at the Expo on Friday!
Chris Tiley says
I didn’t realise the New York marathon was coming up so soon. I’d love to run that one year.
Enjoy the Expo. I’ve been to the London Marathon Expo a few times, always a great atmosphere.
kookyrunner says
It’s such a great race. I hope that you’re able to do it one year!
Jenn says
I’ll do a lot of things for a free t-shirt. I can’t wait to see how Hell week goes for you1
I’m stating to sign up for all the races this week. I’m pretty excited a out getting out there.
Volunteering at the expo is going to be fun!
kookyrunner says
So cool that you’re signing up for more races – I think it’s something about Fall that makes us want to run races 🙂
I really cannot wait until Friday. The Expo is always so full of energy and excitement!
Liz Dexter says
I was thinking that if I got a peleton bike I just wouldn’t get a chance to do anything else, and it looks like it had to move aside for marathon training. Have fun helping at NY – I have just the two friends doing it, one our very own Cari of course.
kookyrunner says
No matter how hard I try, something always gets tossed to the side with marathon training. Unfortunately this time it was the Peloton bike but I’m looking forward to getting back on it soon!
