We’re officially half way into 2017. That still seems a little cray-cray to me, but I think everyone is feeling like this year is flying by! It’s the start of July so that means it’s time for some new monthly goals. Let’s discuss!
First, let’s take a look at my goals from June:
Establish a good post-run stretch routine
I’ll give myself an A+ for this one! I have a 10 minute routine that I do after every run. I’ll do a blog post about it later on this month.
Try new fueling products
Another A+ for this one because I tried Tailwind and Huma gels last month. Both were great and I didn’t have any GI issues. This month I want to try Generation UCAN products.
Read a new running related book
I’m giving myself a C for this one. I did try starting a new book when I was traveling to Chicago but realized that I didn’t like it after the first two chapters. I just started another book yesterday and I hope to finish that one, lol.
Here are my goals for July:
Meal Prep!
If you read my Runfessions post last week, you know that I’m trying to drop a few pounds. I’ve decided that July will be the month I really buckle down and get serious about that. I know that meal prepping will help with that!
Do some “Summer Cleaning”
I have a need for more simplicity so I’m going to do some “summer cleaning”, as opposed to spring cleaning, lol. I already started doing that this week and have a few bags of stuff to donate. It’s just amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the years!
Balance life and marathon training
Recently I noticed that I’m getting in the habit of focusing solely on marathon training and I don’t want to do that because it’s no fun. This month I’m going to make sure I do some fun things, like meeting up with friends, going out to Happy Hour, etc. There’s gotta be a balance if I’m going to make it to October in one piece!
Do you set monthly goals? Do you have any goals for July?
I’m linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Jen from Pretty Little Grub and Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday.
I’m also linking up with Rachel from Running on Happy, Susie from Suzlyfe, Lora from Crazy Running Girl, and Debbie from Coach Debbie Runs for Coaches’ Corner!

Great job with your goals in June! And your July goals are good ones. I really need to do some deep cleaning but I feel like theres never enough time. It might just have to wait until fall!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I feel like I need to do a “cleaning” every year. I don’t understand how I accumulate so much stuff!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Well done! I’m curious to know your post-run routine…I always slack off on mine! And nice to know the fueling options have been working so far.
Balance is definitely a challenge when marathon training but it’s great that you’re getting on top of it early and making adjustments for July. How can you say no to a summertime happy hour? LOL
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I am so lazy about post-run stretching so I thought that if I could make up a routine, I would be more likely to do it, lol.
I’m also happy I caught the whole “balance” thing early. I see some happy hour margaritas in my future, lol
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Meal prep does really help. I feel like I have slacked off a bit the last few weeks myself. Let’s both do it!
kookyrunner says
Yes, let’s get back on track!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I need some balance over here! I’m spending too much time on social media and blogging and that has to change. It’s a tough one because I’m getting a lot more opportunities to grow my blog. But….family..work…ugh…
Have you read Marathon Woman by Kathrine Switzer? It’s a GREAT read and as you know, I loved it.
kookyrunner says
I think it’s easy to fall into the social media rabbit hole. I’ll go on Instagram to check one thing and 30 minutes later I’m still on my phone, lol.
I haven’t read that book yet but I’ll add it to my list!
Kimberly Hatting says
Yes to Wendy’s suggestion on Marathon Woman…I’m about half way through it, and it’s very compelling! UGh….my June goals totally tanked, thanks to the knee stuff…and July? UGH, I haven’t even thought about that yet. I need to get a move on!
kookyrunner says
I’ll definitely check out that book!
I really love your positive attitude – I know you have been through a whole lot this past week!
Annmarie says
Lol, that meme really is so accurate! I feel that way often and it was all sorts of accurate when I was marathon training …balance is definitely key!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! I find that all runners have issues finding balance, especially when they are training for a race!
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
Love these goals, and way to do a stretching routine. I’ve started to do some foam rolling at least once a week and really think it’s helped with my muscle recovery from running and strength training.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Patricia! Foam rolling is super helpful even though it can hurt sometimes!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
It’s so hard to find that balance! I hope you’re able to have some fun with that training.
I’ve got to admit the pizza meal prepping looks mighty appealing!
kookyrunner says
So true – balance is so hard, but yet it’s everything when it comes to marathon training!
Rachel says
That pizza looks amazing and I want to stuff my face with it…
I’m so glad the Huma worked for you. I think I have more if you want it. I’ll have to look. I love the flavors but it goes right through me.
kookyrunner says
LOL…if I didn’t love pizza so much I’m sure I could lose at least a few pounds..sigh.
Erinn says
Great job on your goals for June!! I would really like to see your stretching routine..I am notoriously bad at stretching after workouts 🙁
I just wrote a post about the books I am reading this summer and one is a book on running – check it out!
My rule for cleaning is if I haven’t used it in a year or two – time to get rid of it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Erinn! I was very bad about stretching post-run but now that I have the routine I’m getting so much better about stretching! I’ll definitely check out your post!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
My goal is to keep utilizing my CSA! So yummy, but I need to branch out!
kookyrunner says
I want to look into doing a CSA next year!
Ilka says
These are all great goals for this month! The pizza meal prep is too funny…!
kookyrunner says
If only that pizza meal prep was healthy, lol
Toni says
Looks like June treated you well. I do have monthly goals in my head that I have yet to write down. Good like on finding your marathon training balance and let me know when you do lol
kookyrunner says
LoL, I’m really working on the balance this month 🙂
Clarinda says
I don’t set months goals. At least I haven’t this year, but I’m still focusing on my 2017 goals. 🙂 Some of them are monthly-type goals.
Good solid goals for July! That meal prep looks delicious. 😀
kookyrunner says
Thanks Clarinda!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
That last meme – life balance. It is so hard to have a full time job, marathon train, blog, and still have time for a social life. I am still planning on winning the lottery to get rid of one of those things – I’ll let you guess which one, hahahaha
kookyrunner says
I too would like to win the lottery, but I guess that means that I have to start playing it, lol. Balance is so difficult but as I like to say, I’m a work in progress!
