Happy Friday! I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July. I spent the say running a few errands, cleaning and eating delicious grilled food. Is there anything better than hamburgers or chicken on the grill?! Summer isn’t my favorite season, but grilling season is definitely my favorite!
June was definitely NOT a normal month. Between my business trip to NOLA and the bone marrow donation, I haven’t been as active as I would like, but I’m hoping I can get back to some sort of workout routine next week, even if I have to modify some things.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from June:
Complete a minimum of 10,000 steps per day
Grade: A
Happy to say that this goal was achieved, even if my mom had to help me two days during the month!
Go for lunchtime walks
Grade: C
I was only able to take a lunchtime walk 3 times last month, so definitely room for improvement.
Stay on track with Weight Watchers
Grade A
Even with everything going on last month, I still tracked all my meals (even when I didn’t make the best choices).
Conquer the Stair Climber Machine (20 minutes)
Grade: B
I only got up to 15 minutes on the Star Climber so I’m going to try this goal again next month.
Slightly change workout routine
Grade: B
I ran less and did more strength training, but I could have done more by trying new classes or machines at the gym.
Here are my goals for July!
Conquer the Stair Climber Machine (20 minutes)
Since I didn’t quite hit this goal last month, I’m going to conquer it this month!
Have a blast at RnR Chicago
I originally signed up to run the 5K/Half Marathon for RnR Chicago but since I’m severely under trained, I will be dropping down to the 5K/10K combo. I’ll still get my Remix Challenge Medal, so it’s all good 🙂 A bunch of awesome bloggers are also doing the race so we’re planning on meeting up that weekend. I’m very excited to meet all of these awesome ladies in person as I feel like they are already friends. I also love Chicago so much so I know it’s going to be a great weekend! Just two more weeks!
Get back into a workout routine
This week was my second week of recovery so I still can’t run or do any heavy lifting but I’m trying to do what I can (light arm weights, walking, etc). I hope that I will be able to go back to the gym by next week and get back into a routine. I know I will need to modify things but that’s okay. I am really missing that post workout sweaty glow!
Blog consistently
For the past few weeks I’ve just been doing my Weekly Wrap posts and not much else. This is primarily because I really didn’t have much to talk about! I don’t believe in blogging just to blog – I want to write content that I think will be helpful to others. Luckily I’ve got a few ideas for blog posts this month so hopefully I’ll get back to blogging 3x a week.
Use collagen products daily
I’m already doing a great job with this one! I’m planning on using Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen products throughout the month of July. So far I’ve been putting their powdered collagen in my tea every morning. I love it because it doesn’t have a taste at all and dissolves very quickly. I’ll also be using their collagen endurance plus product when I go back to my regular workouts later on this month. Collagen is great for bone and joint health – two things I could definitely use help with as I recover!
Do you set monthly goals? I love doing these posts every month because it helps to hold me accountable, especially with my yearly goals. Sometimes it’s easy to get a little lazy with all of the day-to-day responsibilities that we have, but I always try to make my health a top priority
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for July?
I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.

Love your “sweat” graphic! You have some great July goals. It’s impressive how you give yourself a grade for each goal to hold yourself accountable. I will have to think of some goals for the month. Maybe find a race to run. I have none on my July calendar. Thanks for the inspiration!
kookyrunner says
Thanks – gotta love google! I did a quick search and it popped up 🙂
I try to give myself an honest grade because it helps me stay on track. Knowing I have to grade myself sometimes forces me to do the work to make my goals happen. No one wants to give themselves an F!
I hope that you find a race to run this month! 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m sure y’all will have a blast. I’ll just be running downhill . . . way, way downhill.
Tracking even when you don’t make great choices is great! Believe me, nobody makes great choices all the time — balance over time.
I think you’re doing great considering what went down this month.
kookyrunner says
Yes, RnR Chicago should be quite a treat! I love meeting blogging friend IRL.
I do try to make sure I track even if I go over my points for the day. Thank goodness for fit points and weeklies! 🙂
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I wanted to go to to RnR Chicago but it is not going to work out this year. I have tried collagen a few times in my smoothies but I haven’t seen or felt a difference. Maybe I haven’t been consistent enough with it.
kookyrunner says
Hopefully you can get to RnR Chicago one year. It’s a very fun weekend!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Lunch time walks are tough in this heat!! I am so excited to see you in a few weeks. I am doing the 5k/10K as well
kookyrunner says
Exactly! I think that the heatwave is over today so I hope I can get in some lunchtime walks next week!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
You did awesome with your June goals! My goal for the rest of the summer is to not get too lazy. I was SO productive in June but I feel myself slipping.
kookyrunner says
That really should be one of my goals too! I think it’s really easy to get lazy in the summer because there are so many things that sound more fun than working out – going to the beach, picnic, BBQ, grabbing some drinks on the deck, etc.
Patrick @looneyforfood.com says
What a month! I still am amazed at your bravery
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Patrick!
Stephanie says
You have a lot of great goals for July! I have to say the stair climber is one of my favorite cardio machines, I wish we had one at our gym. I have a similar goal to stay more consistent with my blog this month too 🙂
kookyrunner says
I have a love/hate relationship with the stair climber. I know it’s great for cardio and endurance, but man is it rough, especially when I increase the levels!
Lesley says
That stairmaster is evil! I never liked that thing, and I would rarely use it, unless I was a glutton for punishment that day! Good luck with your goal of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I was done!
kookyrunner says
After 10 I always want to jump off the machine but I try to push myself to get to 15. Not sure how I’m going to get to 20 minutes but I’ll try!
Wendy says
You had a great month–it doesn’t always have to be about the miles. I”m looking forward to meeting you too! I am still hoping to do the half but man, running has sucked lately. Fingers crossed for all of us!
kookyrunner says
Very true! I’m learning that the number of miles really doesn’t define success for me anymore, especially now while I’m recovering.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m really looking forward to Chicago!
Gosh, I totally spaced on setting goals for July….I jotted down some ideas last week, but have not really “published” them or finalized what I’m doing. Stay tuned! I hope your recovery continues to go well.
kookyrunner says
I almost forgot to post my goals this month too! I totally blame it on a very buys June.
Sandra says
I need to do a better job of setting monthly goals. Currently i am trying to blog more and to participate in this group more. For fitness I am trying to figure out my next big goal! I will have to check out the Collagen products as I don’t use any yet but sounds interesting.
kookyrunner says
Seem like we have very similar goals. I kind of let blogging be last on my priority list last month so I’m hoping to be more consistent with blogging this month.
Darlene says
So jealous about Chicago.
I hope to run there someday.
I do not have goals. So I guess I met them all. Lol.
Less disappointment that way.
You are doing great. You are too hard on yourself.
kookyrunner says
I hope that you get to go to Chicago for a race in the future. I feel like all the races there are just great!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had a great June! That stairclimber looks like an instrument of torture – LOL! We have one at my gym and I have yet to go near it. I’ve got some July goals floating around in my head but need to jot them down. Here’s to a great July 🙂
kookyrunner says
I know that one day I’ll eventually end up cursing out the stair climber, LOL
De Bolton says
Haha!! I have a stair climber goal too. Wishing you luck on yours. I love your goals this month and you didnt do so bad in June. Wishing you success.
kookyrunner says
Good luck on your stair climber goal as well!! 🙂
Esther says
Sounds like you made a wise choice in switching from the half to the 10k combo. Letting your body fully recover is so smart!
I feel you on a crazy June! I know it is July, but my brain has not caught up yet! LOL
Hope you have a great time in Chicago!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! There’s no way I could do a half so I’m totally fine with dropping down to the 10k.
coco says
I find getting out for lunch time walks so much harder than it should be! I prefer to plow through my work and get it done, but I know a break can be helpful.
kookyrunner says
Usually I’m the same way but sometimes that fresh air can be really invigorating, especially if I’m in meetings all morning.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
With everything you had going on in June, I think you had a really great month! Its awesome you were still able to get in your 10,000 steps a day even without running. I hope July goes well for you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Lisa! July is off to a good start so far.
Susana Parker says
I love how you go back to your last month’s goals to check on them. It’s a good way to keep track of progress. My only goal is to find a balance between exercise and diet. I want it to be a lifestyle instead of a “month challenge” which is what I only seem to achieve..
kookyrunner says
Finding that balance can be so hard! I’m definitely a work in progress when it comes to that as well.
