Today is June 3rd, also known as National Running Day! I thought this would be a great chance to explain the question, “Why do you run?”
You need to challenge yourself in order to grow as a person |
It’s pretty simple – I run because it’s a challenge for me. Running is NOT something that comes easy to me. When I first started running, I HATED it, but I stuck with it just for that reason. It was a new challenge for me and I appreciate a good challenge. If you only do things that come easily to you, then what is the point? I could barely run a minute without feeling like I was going to die. Obviously that has changed, but I would never lie and say that running in easy. Sure, my endurance has gotten so much better and I can run a lot of miles without needing to stop, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t struggle. I’m not the fastest nor prettiest runner when it comes to form, but I get out there, hit the pavement or treadmill, and get my miles done. Also because running is hard for me, every time I finish a race, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, which is one of the best feelings in the world!
Now for more information on National Running Day!
To get more information, make sure you check out the National Running Day website and Facebook page. On the website, you can find information on runs taking place in your area today.
A lot of different running brands are offering some cool discounts as well. PRO Compression is offering 42% off everything on their website (use code JUNE). In addition, you can enter to win a $150 gift card by submitting your email address in the pop-up box that appears when you first enter the website. Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is offering up to $20 off their races.
Two of my favorite brands, Asics and Nuun are also doing something cool to celebrate the day. Show Asics how you #GoRunIt on social media for your chance to win a free pair of sneakers. Nuun is partnering with Motigo for free tomorrow. Once you download the Motigo app, you’ll get to hear free cheers from Nuun and your family and friends during your run. You will also get the chance to win prizes!
Also consider pledging your miles to Charity Miles! You can select to donate your miles to one of 18 different charitable organizations.
If you live in NYC, check out the New York Road Runners website. They have listed tons of runs in the different boroughs. I love living in Connecticut but sometimes I REALLY miss living in NYC (this is one on those times).

How will you celebrate National Running Day? I’m going to try to squeeze in a run in-between my two classes at the gym tonight. Not ideal but it’s better than nothing!
