Happy Wednesday! Another month, another set of goals. How is it May already? I can’t believe that in another month the year will be half way over.
April was another typical month full of half marathon training. My schedule was pretty consistent and I was able to get in a majority of my workouts. It was a great month overall.
Do you set monthly goals? I love doing these posts every month because it helps to hold me accountable, especially with my yearly goals. Sometimes it’s easy to get a little lazy with all of the day-to-day responsibilities that we have, but I always try to make my health a top priority.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from March:
Complete the Tricep Dips, Push-Ups and Jump Squats Challenge
Grade: A+
Okay, so this monthly challenge just about killed me, especially the last week of workouts. My arms felt like jelly after all of the tricep dips and push-ups and my legs and but were on fire after all the jump squats. Even though it was hard, I’m really happy that I did it. I feel like I definitely got stronger as the month went on.
Strength Training 3x a Week
Grade: A+
I was able to achieve this goal and I couldn’t be happier. Honestly I’m in love with strength training. Sometimes I like it more than running and I’m not afraid to admit that publicly.
Start A Food Log
Grade F
I literally stuck with this for about 2 days last month – oops! Obviously I completely failed at this goal. I might attempt it again another month.
Here are my goals for May!
Set a PR at the Cleveland 8K
I’ll be running the Cleveland 8K on May 19th. I technically had a PR for the Shamrock 8K because it was my first time running that distance. That’s fine, but I want to feel like I actually earned a PR, does that make sense? I believe that the course is pretty flat so in theory it should be a good run (if the weather cooperates). Although I’m running the Cleveland Half Marathon the following day, I’m not looking to PR in that race so I’m find with going balls to the wall during the 8K.
Complete the Burpees, Planks and Push-Ups Challenge
I’m excited to do this challenge for May! There isn’t a new challenge for May, so Rachel has decided that we will repeat the January challenge. This is great because I had to skip this challenge because I was marathon training and I didn’t think I could keep up with it. I have a love/hate relationship with burpees so this challenge should be super interesting, haha.
Try one new recipe a week
I’m definitely in a “food rut” and need to spice things up a little bit. I’m going to look through my cookbooks the week and pick out a few recipes that I want to try this month. Every Sunday I’ll plan on making a new recipe. Wish me luck!
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for May?

You did great with the challenge and strength training in April! I am going to be trying to make some new recipes this month even though I didnt make it an official goal. Good luck with your May goals!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! Good luck with the new recipes this month. Hoepfully we’ll both find some good ones that we like!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Hope you got your PR this month! I have two races too and hopefully I do well too.
kookyrunner says
thanks so much Zenaida!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I like the idea of making something new each week! I do it too π The food logs I have mixed feelings on. I think you are doing so well keep it up girl!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that you do it too! I am hoping that it gets me out of this food rut that I’ve been in for the past few weeks!
Wendy says
I couldn’t complete that challenge–it was too intense for me! But I did learn how effective burpees can be to up your fitness. Enjoy (says the spectator)!
kookyrunner says
It was definitely an intense challenge!
AmyC says
I definitely need to bring the strength training back in May. I skipped the BPP January challenge too, but now I’m thinking I should try it…eek!
kookyrunner says
Definitely try the challenge – it will be fun! Well not really fun, but you’ll feel stronger!
Debbie says
I have always had a hard time keeping food logs. Too much work (that I manage to completely forget about too)!
Great job on your other goals. Iβm still using my shoulder injury as an excuse to avoid the challenges. π Itβs much better, but any exercise that involves the shoulder still hurts, so gosh darn, Iβll have to skip the monthly challenge yet again! π
kookyrunner says
I am glad that your shoulder is doing much better!
Annmarie says
I have no problem logging my workouts but always fail to log my food, haha. Way to smash your April goals, I have no doubt you’ll rock May too!
kookyrunner says
LOL, same here! i guess it’s just more exciting to log workouts.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Way to go in April!! I’ve been doing a plank (most) every day, and it’s been awesome! I hope to keep that up for May. My big goals for this month are to get married (WOOT!) and workout at least 5 times over our two week honeymoon. I love running in new places, so hopefully I’ll get to squeeze in some runs in all the cities we’re going to!
kookyrunner says
I can’t believe that your wedding is this weekend – so excited for you!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Congrats on knocking out your goals, you are killing it with all your strength training!
I know you’re going to do great in your 8K! Good luck with the meal planning!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I’m hoping the weather will be good for Cleveland.
Kimberly Hatting says
I did the January challenge, and actually grew to “tolerate” burpees. I still don’t love them, but I’m no longer afraid of them LOL Good luck with the Challenge and with the Cleveland races!
kookyrunner says
I feel the same way about burpees – I don’t hate them but I certainly don’t love them either lol
Rachel says
I’m so glad you’re taking the Burpees challenge for May! Woohoo! You’re gonna love it. π
I can’t wait to see you in 16 days!
kookyrunner says
Yes! See you in a little over 2 weeks – so excited!!
Andrea says
I have SO much going on in May/June, my goal is just to survive! I have two certifications coming up and a fitness conference. Plus, you know, kids. Not sure how I’ll hang for it, but I’m excited.
kookyrunner says
Wow you will be super busy! Good luck with everything!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You have done such a great job with your strength training! That challenge about took me out LOL. I want to do more strength training but I’ll be passing on the challenge…cause you know…burpees.
Here’s to a great May!
kookyrunner says
Yes the burpees are going to kill me this month but I’m determined to finish it!
The Accidental Marathoner says
I’m so bad at setting goals, but I do often use lists to keep me on track. I have fallen way off the fitness train and need to get back on. Maybe some tangible goal setting is what I need to finally do!
kookyrunner says
I think keeping lists is really good too. I love crossing off items on a “To-Do” list!
RenΓ©e says
I was TOTALLY wondering how your food logging went!! It’s such a challenge for me! And sometimes I decide I’m going to go full force 100% on plan and 2 days later I’m like a giant train derailment!! UGH.
otherwise you had a great month and I’m looking forward to seeing how May pans out for you. Especially with that 8K PR smash π
I try to set goals every month, but I’m so all over the place right now. I need to get it together. So much for my word of the year (FOCUS).
kookyrunner says
The food logging seemed more like a chore than anything else so that’s why I didn’t end up doing it, lol
Denise @ runheartfit says
Good luck with the Cleveland PR! As for the challenge, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do that.
I tried the 1 new recipe a week but I reverted back to my old standbys. π
kookyrunner says
Thanks Denise!
I’m in such a food rut that I’m craving some new recipes, but I’ll never forget about my old standbys!
Esther says
Way to rock out most of your April goals! I was trying to do some food logging myself in April and it was a huge fail!
Can’t wait to see what recipes you try this month! I need to get back to trying new things out π
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Esther!
I’m excited to try out new recipes this month!
Rach @ Girl On The Run says
You did awesome in April, I bet you will do even more awesome in May! I am so excited for you to race Cleveland – you are getting in such great shape with your strength, I bet you kill it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Rachel! While I’m not going for a PR for the Cleveland Half, I am hoping that I can run strong!
