Happy Friday! We made it through another week – hooray!
Today I want to discuss podcasts. I’ll admit that I was a little late to the party when it comes to podcasts. I really only started to listen to them more frequently this summer. Luckily there are tons of podcasts out there to listen to, especially podcasts about fitness and running. Here are my top 5 fitness podcasts.
Description: A podcast featuring authentic, unfiltered product reviews, information on all things running, and real talk regarding everything that fuels our runs, including a bit ol’ glass of wine.
Hosted by the lovely Annmarie and Nicole, Runners Who Wine is a great podcast to listen to if you want to learn a little more about wine (duh!) and other various running topics such as how to build a proper training plan, tips for summer and winter running and what to do when you can’t run. So far my favorite episode has been on how to deal with pre-race anxiety. This is something I still deal with from time to time and they both gave some great tips on how to combat this.
Description: A master-class in personal and professional development, ultra-athlete, wellness evangelist and bestselling author Rich Roll delves deep with the world’s brightest and most thought provoking thought leaders to educate, inspire and empower you to unleash your best, most authentic self.
I love that each episode features someone new and a new topic. I found two episodes really interesting – Tony Hawk and Nimai Delgado. Tony spoke all about living your passion but also having the ability to step outside of your comfort zone. Nimai is a vegan bodybuilder and I found his information on nutrition completely fascinating. I’m sure it will take me months to get through all of Rich’s podcasts (over 300!) but I’m totally okay with that. I learn so much from every podcast.
The 300 Pounds and Running Podcast
Description: Hey YOU! The one at the back of the pack of runners. Think you’re “too fat” to run, “too slow” to run, “too ____(fill in the blank)” to run? Then the 300 Pounds and Running Podcast is for you! Whether you’ve just started or need a fire lit under your ass to get you off that couch, I’ll share my best advice, inspiring stories, and running and weight loss tips. Who am I? (Good question.) I’m Martinus Evans. I’m an RRCA run coach, author, and award-winning speaker. But more importantly I’m a big guy. Who runs. No…really. I’ve run 5k’s, 10k’s, half-marathons, and marathons! So I know your struggles. I know your hesitations. And I want to help you become a runner! So if you’re looking for a place to start your journey to better health, look no further. Let’s do this!
I think that the description says it all but let me just tell you that Martinus is amazing! He just seems like a very real and down to earth person. He’s all about motivating others to get active. One big plus to this podcast is that he features your everyday runners doing amazing things. I’ve gotten so much inspiration from listening to episodes of this podcast.
Run, Selfie, Repeat
Description: Short, weekly pep talks that’ll motivate you to take that first step, set a goal that scares the crap out of you, or laugh your way through the struggle. It’s the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, where we talk about life with a side of running. So join me as we get real, get ugly, kick ass and take names.
Kelly is so honest, so raw and so real. I followed Kelly for a while on social media before she started her podcast so I already had a sense of what it would be like. What I love about Kelly is that she says the things that either you’re afraid to say out loud. It’s nice to hear someone say that running just flat out sucks sometimes, and that’s okay. She’s also hella funny and doesn’t take herself too seriously – two traits that I absolutely love and appreciate.
Description: 20 Minute Fitness dives into the science and technology of today’s fitness world for you. Packing need-to-know info about the latest in fitness nutrition, tech, science, and methodology every Tuesday. Stay up to date with the current fitness news and trends without taking up all your time.
This is a really awesome podcast that you can listen to when you’re pressed for time, but still want to learn new information. As the name suggests, it’s only 20 minutes learn so perfect to listen to during your work commute or when you’re taking a walk. They really do cover a vast array of topics so I always feel like I walk away from an episode with new information.
Do you have any favorite fitness podcasts? Let me know in the comments!
I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.
I’ve never listened to a podcast ! I’m even later to the party
Try it out! I bet you’ll like it.
I’m still not on the podcast bandwagon. Mainly because I haven’t figured out how to get Alexa to play mine (although I have tried). The 20 minute one sounds really interesting so I guess I need to work on that again!
Oh I often have fights with Alexa LOL
I feel like I”m the only runner who isn’t listening to podcasts! I have listed to Nicole and Annemarie and they are so cute! It’s like being at a party with friends.
Totally agree! Their podcast always makes me smile. You can tell they are great friends because the convo flows so easily.
Me neither, Wendy.
I want to like Ali on the Run’s since I enjoy her blog but I just can’t get into podcasts. Will give them another go this winter though without music on my watch
I have tried to get into podcasts but got kind of bored. They were too long. I may check out that 20 min one sounds like the perfect length
I agree. My limit is 60 minutes or else I start to get bored too.
I need to get more podcasts to listen too! These are some great suggestions.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Julie! Glad you found some new ones on my list.
I’ve never tried running with podcasts – I always prefer music to zone out to. One of my BRFs loves them for long runs though…might need to give it a try!
I haven’t tried running with podcasts. I usually listen to podcasts when I take a walk or when I’m commuting. I still listen to music when I run.
I haven’t done podcasts, or audiobooks, while running. I zone out a lot during my workouts, and if I miss something on a podcast, then I have to go back and figure out what the last thing I heard was.
I usually listen to podcasts when I take a walk or when I’m communting. I still listen to music when I run.
I only just got on the podcast bandwagon this summer too. I really like Martinus’ podcasts! I haven’t heard of the others so thanks for the suggestions!
Right?! He’s so cool. I hope I can meet him at a race one day.
I have been listening to martinis and murders podcast for awhile. I need to branch out to some running ones. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll have to look those up.
Oh wow that’s an interesting sounding podcast! I’ll have to check it out.
I love Runners who Wine… they are a hoot! I’ve been on the hunt for a trail running podcast lately. Surprise, huh? Lol
They really are! You can tell they are great friends.
I actually don’t listen to ANY fitness podcasts! I like to listen to politics, news, and reality TV… which are like two topics that are totally opposite of each other!
LoL nothing wrong with having all that variety!
I love listening to podcasts!
Runners who wine is so funny and informative!
I have not heard of the others so thank you for sharing them 🙂
Yes I agree – Runners Who Wine always makes me laugh but gives me great information as well.
