Although it’s not officially Fall (until September 23), I’ve already started training for my Fall races. I’ve been racing way less this year but I still have some awesome upcoming races to look forward to from September-December. Let’s discuss!
Rock n Roll Philadelphia 5K, 10K and Half Marathon
September 15-16
Philadelphia, PA
I did a shorter training cycle for these races (7 weeks), but I’m hoping that will be good enough! This will be my third time running this race. I really love the city of Philadelphia and it’s not too far from where I live which makes it an inexpensive racecation (just how I like it, lol). There’s a huge possibility that the city will get a lot of rain this weekend from Hurricane Florence. Right now, Saturday looks decent but Sunday not so much. I’m still planning on traveling down to Philly but will make a race day decision on whether I will run or not. Worst case scenario is that I’ll run on Saturday but not on Sunday if the weather is too bad. Hopefully I’ll be able to run both days!
SoNo Half Marathon
October 20
Norwalk, CT
This is a relatively new local race (I think this is the 3rd or 4th year). I ran the race as part of a 20 mile training run back in 2016 and I was super impressed with the course and the organization. They also have AMAZING food and drinks for the post-race party (beer, pizza, ice cream, etc). I’m looking forward to running the race WITHOUT the extra 7 miles added on this time š Not training for a Fall marathon has its perks š
Wilmington Women’s Half Marathon
October 27
Wilmington, DE
This is an inaugural race and communication has been lackluster to say the least, so I don’t have high hopes for this race – maybe they will prove me wrong? The organization has done half marathons in other cities, so they are reputable, but I just don’t like how they have handled this race at all. IF this race actually ends up happening it will help me check off another state on my 25 State Challenge.
Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K
November 3
New York, NY
I’ve actually lost count how many times I’ve run this race! It’s a little pricey for a 5k, and there’s no medal, but it’s totally worth it! This race is the day before the NYC Marathon so you can just imagine all the excitement in the air. Marathon week in NYC is so much fun because there are tons of races and activities to participate in. I’ll be volunteering at the Expo, running this race and also cheering on runners during the marathon. It’s going to be a busy week!
Kiawah Island Golf Resort Half Marathon
December 8
Kiawah Island, SC
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this race so I had to register when there was a sale offering the half marathon for $40. Also my run coach, Abby, lives in Charleston, SC so I get to visit her and run the race with her š I’m really looking forward to this one!
Are you racing anywhere fun this Fall?

If I decide to do Dash, I’ll let you know
Not racing related, but I was in Norwalk for the first time in ages earlier this summer to do the Aquarium with my godson. Used to love that as a kid, so glad it aged well.
kookyrunner says
Awesome – yes, please let me know!
The Maritime Aquarium is so cool! I’m glad that you were able to take your godson there.
Lesley says
That SC half medal is very cool! I’m doing Princess next year because I was quite jealous of the medals they had this year. I’m hoping the medals will be just as sweet. Of course, RnR Vegas is on my list for next year because the medal this year got my attention. It really is all about the bling.
Shathiso says
I love how full your race calendar is! I hope the Wilmington Women’s Race comes through so you can check another state off, but I also really don’t like it when things seem disorganised leading up to a race. It doesn’t give one confidence for race day. But hopefully there’s a lot going on behind the scenes and the race happens (and is a success!).
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I’m hoping that this weekend will bring nice weather for your Philly race. I am planning on going to Atlantic City and heard it may be a soggy weekend.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
These all sound like great races! I hope that you can do both races this weekend. The storm is supposed to be bad but hopefully Philly won’t get hit too hard.
Marcia says
You’ve got some fun races lined up! I haven’t been to Philly since I was in high school so I’m looking forward to it. Kiawah Island in December sounds pretty fabulous!
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard great things about the Philly Marathon so I’m sure you’ll love it! The city is really, really cool too.
Wendy says
I’d love to do Kiawah! I need someone to go there with me, tho. I sure hope you don’t get rain for your race this weekend! Good luck!
kookyrunner says
I will be sure to report back on Kiawah! The weather is now looking decent for Philly so I think we’ll be okay!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
That one has been on my bucket list a long time. I thought this would be the year, but not so much.
I also saw that Wilmington Half, but I guess luckily I already have plans for that weekend!
Zenaida says
I hope you have decent weather this weekend. I’ve also run RnR Philadelphia and also enjoyed it. Love that it is flat.
Wow, $40 for the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Half Marathon? When did that happen? I need to run a race in SC so that has been on my list.
kookyrunner says
Me too! I love that the course is flat. They changed it this year so I’m hoping it’s still flat, lol
I signed up for Kiawah during their blitz sale in early December. They had the sale right after their 2017 race, so it might have been part of early registration.
Kimberly Hatting says
Alright, Kim…let’s say it again…It will not rain in Philly. it will not rain in Philly. It will not rain in Philly.
I have my marathon on October 13th, but am probably gonna do a 5-miler the following weekend. There’s also a 13.1 on Nov. 3rd I’m considering…
kookyrunner says
I’ve been saying that mantra all week and by the looks of the photo you sent this morning, we might be okay!
Debbie says
I’d love to be in NYC the week of the marathon! I’ll bet it’s so exciting! Great schedule, I hope your Women’s Race comes off as expected.
kookyrunner says
It’s such a fun time to be in the city! I’m lucky that I don’t live too far away so I can always just take the train into the city.
Darlene says
What fun races.
I love Dash to the finish. Have run it several times.
My big one is Montreal sept 24 and Paris oct 14.
Iāll have coordinate better next year so I can meet you.
kookyrunner says
Dash to the Finish Line is so fun – it’s one of my favorites!
Yes – we should meet up at one of the NYRR races!
Laurie says
Wow! You get around!!! I have run a lot of races in Wilmington, including the Caesar Rodney half in the spring several times. Too bad about the communication from the race director, but running in Wilmington is actually great. Surprisingly hilly, but nothing too bad.I hope this race goes along the waterfront. That is usually the best part for me.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much about the feedback on races in Wilmington. I don’t really know what to expect since I’ve never been there before.
Jenny says
I normally do one or two races in the fall but Iām taking some early time off this year (as opposed to taking the time off in the winter) and taking it easier for the next few months.
kookyrunner says
I find it’s always good to take a little break, no matter what season!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I really hope the weather holds out for you all this weekend. It’s looking a little bit better. After Chicago, though I guess you got this rain or shine
kookyrunner says
The weather is actually looking much better now so fingers crossed that it stays that way!
Jessica says
I don’t have ANY races on my calendar right now!! Wishing you the best of luck for all of these! Fingers crossed for decent weather this weekend!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jessica!
Rachel says
Kiawah Island sounds fun! You have a great fall lineup!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m really looking forward to Kiawah! š
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
These all sound like great races! I am just signing up for races at the last minute now!! Mine will all be shorter distances with one half marathon thrown in the mix!!
kookyrunner says
I wish I had more shorter distance races lined up for this Fall – maybe next year!
I hope that you enjoy all of your races this Fall!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You’ve got a fun line-up planned! That Kiawah medal is great and I’ve heard good things about that race. Keeping my fingers crossed that you don’t get rained out this weekend.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Michelle! The weather actually looks pretty good for this weekend so I’m thankful for that!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It sounds like you might be able to run your Sunday races now since the hurricane’s forecast has changed from earlier this week! The Kiawah Half sounds fun, too! I hope Abby is safe in Charleston.
Thanks for linking up!
kookyrunner says
Yes! Thankfully the weather is holding up beautifully right now so tomorrow looks good.
Hannah says
These all sound fun! You have your schedule well planned out already. I’m only registered for my 30K (it’s the first day of fall) so far, but I’m planning on an 8K and 14K also. And of course a Thanksgiving race, but I haven’t decided on which distance.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Hannah! Sound like you have some awesome upcoming races as well!
