Happy Wednesday! Today I’m linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Angelena Marie from Angelena Marie: Happy, Healthy & Balanced, Michelle at Fruition Fitness and Nicole from Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday!
Let’s talk about pre-workout snacks! What you eat can make or break your workout. I’ve tried MANY different pre-workout snacks throughout the past two years. Through a lot of trail and error, I’ve found a few snacks that help me feel energized during my workouts. Of course, everyone is different, but this is what seems to work well for me!
Green Granny Smith Apple with Peanut Butter/Almond Butter – You can use any the of apple, but Granny Smith apples are my absolute favorite! Love the mix of carbs and protein.
Honey Stinger Waffle – I’ve been using their products for a while, but I’m currently loving the Vanilla and Lemon flavors. I normally eat one waffle before a long run.
Beet Juice – Just 4-6 ounces of beet juice gives me tons of energy. My beet juice usually included spinach or swiss chard, beets and half an apple. It’s SO tasty!
Healthy Skoop Ignite Performance Beet Blend – Continuing on the beet bandwagon, I won this product through a giveaway earlier this year and I love it! The ingredients are organic and it’s super easy to make – just add one scoop to water, shake and voila!
Protein Smoothie – Sometimes I will make a protein smoothie and drink half before a workout and then drink the other half after a workout. I know this may seem a little weird, but it works for me. My favorite protein powder is Vega Viva Vanilla Protein Smoothie.
With any of these snacks, I need to eat them at least an hour before my workout. I find that gives me enough time to digest the food before working out.
Do you have a favorite pre-workout snack? Let me know in the comments section

Honey Stinger waffles are probably my favorite!

I LOVE Skoop’s beet blend and Vega! I still have yet to try Honey Stinger waffles, guess I should get on that, huh? 🙂

Umm…yes! You need to try Honey Stinger waffles ASAP!

I really need to do a better job of having a healthy pre-workout snack. I tried Honey Stinger for the first time recently and really liked it!

I know it’s hard to always grab a healthy snack, but I thikn the Honey Stinger waffles are great when “whole” foods may not be an option.

mmmm love Skoop and Vega! My favorite pre-long run meal is oatmeal with a banana and almond butter, but I have to eat it 1-2 hours before hand. For regular, shorter workouts, I usually just wake up and workout and refuel afterwards.

I love oatmeal and I also need 1-2 hours to digest it before a run or race, but I usually wake up too late for that to happen – whoops!

I don’t normally eat before a run unless I’m going for more than an hour. Isn’t it weird? I do so much better when I don’t eat. But I do pre-fuel with coffee.

I know a lot of people who do not eat before a run. I can’t eat too much but I also know people that can eat a complete breakfast (bacon, eggs, etc) before a run!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
My problem is that I just eat the honey stingers. I can’t have them around me!
kookyrunner says
That’s so funny because I found myself doing that often as well! I had to move them to a different shelf in my apartment so that I wouldn’t eat them “just because”!

So many option! I have found what works for me before my super long run on Saturdays (peanut butter sandwich and coffee) but still struggle with what to eat before and/or after school. Years ago I tried the Honey Stinger Waffle and struggled with getting the wrapper off. However, recently I tried the chews and loved them. Wow! I signed up to get them every month via Amazon.

I’m a big fan of all the Honey Stinger products because they taste great and do not mess with my stomach.
