Happy Sunday! Since this is my first time training for a marathon, I thought I would document my training process on the blog! I also think this will help to keep me accountable every week during the 16-week training process. If I know I have to write about it, then I’ll definitely do it!:)
I can’t believe it but week 1 of marathon training is officially over! I’m very pleased with this week overall.
Monday 7/18
Rest day as I was traveling back from Chicago.
Tuesday 7/19
My official first day of training! I received these awesome items from Runner’s World (I ordered them through this deal from Rodale).
I also completed a 4 mile easy run on the treadmill.
Wednesday
60 minute Boot Camp Class
Thursday
5 mile easy run on the treadmill
Friday
Rest day
Saturday
8 mile long run, and boy, was this one hard! Hazy, hot and humid even though we started at 7:00 am. I participated in the first TCS NYC Marathon Long Training Run. Runners were doing anywhere from 6-15 miles and we had water, gatorade and snacks on the course. It was nice to run with others in the park but it was just so brutal. I HATE RUNNING IN THE SUMMER!
Sunday
60 minute HIIT class
I also did some PT exercises a few days as well – trying my best to stay injury free! I feel ready to tackle week #2!
Total Weekly Miles – 17
Grade – A+ 🙂
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments – I welcome any advice!

Great job on your first week. I too am already over this heat. Can it just be 50 every day until the marathon for our training. Marathon day I am okay with 40-50s 🙂

I really hope we get cool weather for the marathon!

It’s so AWESOME you had support on your 8 mile run. Summer running is so tough. Here in the Smokies it’s pretty much 90 degrees all day and night so I am out there just sweating it up. I’ve pretty much accepted that my runs are all going to feel like I’m dying and I’m keeping my mileage shorter (haven’t run further than a 5 miler all summer). Hydration is key! Water water water up until the run and then electrolytes after. It seems to be working for me.
Good luck during your training for NYC!

I give you so much credit for running in the heat – it’s just so hard for me and then I end up getting frustrated with my pace. I know that we will have much cooler temps for the marathon so I’m looking forward to that!

I think no one likes running in summer, I don’t like too. But when I got wet with sweat, I felt like satisfied, like a relief. Is it weird?

I’m not a big fan of summer in general, so running in the heat is always last on my to-do list, lol. But i agree, it does feel good when you get in a good sweat.
