I really feel like I’m in the homestretch even though I have another month of training. Week 11 is over and besides a pretty bad mid-week “longer” run, everything went pretty well! I just ran 20 miles this morning and I honestly cannot believe it. Let’s recap the week!
Monday
Iron Strength DVD workout. This is a great strength-training workout!
Tuesday
5 mile run. My legs really didn’t get “into” the run until mile 3, but after that it felt great!
Wednesday
60 minute Boot Camp Class. Really hard class but so worth it!
Thursday
I’m NOT a fan of mid-week “longer” runs and this run was pretty brutal. Plus it was raining so I had to do it on the treadmill but at least I put another 8 miles in the bank for training.
Friday
5 miles. Fridays are usually my rest days but since my long run is on Sunday this week, I switched a few things around. This was supposed to be a tempo run but I had to change it to an easy run.
Saturday
REST DAY! I didn’t do any type of workout and appreciated the break!
Sunday
20 miles, including the Grete’s Great Gallop Half Marathon (recap later on this week)
I was nervous about this run all week because it would be my longest long run ever. I ran all the miles in Central Park, which is very hilly, so I was worried about my legs and IT band. I”m happy to report that it went well overall! (I’ll explain more in my race recap this week)
Total Miles – 38 miles
Training Cycle – 307.45 miles
Grade – A
I added up all my miles for September and the total was 140! I’m pretty happy with that number. I’m sure October’s number will be just as high if not higher.
I had a few firsts this week – first week running 38 miles and first time running a 20 mile long run. After today’s one run I really feel confident that I can complete the Marathon. Sure, I have been putting in the training, but something about this 20 mile run really made me feel at ease with everything. I know I still have a hard few weeks of training, but I am really looking forward to the taper and enjoying the marathon in November!
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments – I welcome any advice!
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
I’m also Linking Up with the Jess’s (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!
GREAT JOB! I ran 8 today and I was thinking about how during marathon training, I had to do a few 8 milers during the week. That was tough–having to get up at zero dark thirty to get it done. But what a feeling of accomplishment.
Thanks so much Wendy! I have another 8-miler this week on Thursday and I’m already dreading it – ugh!
The mid week long runs are very hard. When I was training for my first, I had to do a 10 miler on the treadmill and I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. It helps with the mental training!
Isn’t it awesome what the 20 miler does for your confidence?! I am so impressed that you continue to add races to your training! You’re gonna rock your marathon!
Wow a 10 miler in the middle of the week? I know I have a 9 mile mid-week coming up soon and I’m already dreading it! But like you said it will help with mental training!
I’m still really grateful for the 20 miler today. I never really thought I could do it!
Congrats on your longest run. That is awesome! And your highest weekly mileage. I would love to run through Central Park!
Thanks so much Sarah! Central Park is beautiful, but quite hilly lol
Awesome job! I cannot imagine doing 8 miles on the ‘mill. UGH> That will totally give your mental game a boost! And the 20-miler 😉 Glad to hear it went well!! It’s amazing to finish those miles and reflect on just how FAR it was. Way to go!
I usually do not mind the treadmill but I just don’t want to see it for a longer run during the week, lol
So true about reflecting on the long run – I will be thinking about the run for the rest of the evening because it went way better than expected!
HOORAY for the 20 miler and weekly mileage too. Those are such confidence boosters. I’m so impressed you tacked your 20 onto a half marathon. I’ve come to embrace those mid-week longer runs, even though they usually make me late for work! But, I can’t say I’d like having to run them on the TM. Kudos to you. Thanks for linking, Kim!
I am so proud of you for getting 20 hilly miles in.
You are so ready for this race!
I definitely feel more confident now to take on the marathon!
Congrats on your 20 miler! That is so awesome. 🙂
And your biggest week ever. So excited to follow your journey to the marathon, I think you are going to rock it!
Thanks so much Jessie!
I am so excited for your marathon. I kniw that the 20 miler was a great confidence booster. Your so ready. I remember too that feeling. I didn’t ever do any longer than the 20 training run. I did end up having It band problems but I was fully trained.
I never did any mid week runs longer than 4. It is hard to do that for me. Thanks Kim for joining us
Thanks so much Tricia! I have one more 20 miler in two weeks so after I complete that, I’ll be home free!
I have a few more long mid-week runs so I’m just going to try to suck it up and get it done!
Congrats on your weekly miles and longest run!! Sounds like marathon training is going well.
Thanks so much Sherry! This was a pretty good week, including the long run!
Wow! That is some great mileage for the mth. Great job! Congrats on hitting that 20 miles. That always makes me feel a bit more confident after I complete that distance in a training cycle.
I agree, I think the 20 miler was what I really needed to make me feel more confident going into the marathon.
The rain made for a tough training week but you rocked it! Congrats on the 20 AND the midweek 8 on the mill. Those are both huge and I’m glad you’re feeling more confident!
Thanks so much Marcia! I’m hoping this week goes well too!
Congrats on all your firsts. Conquering the first 20 miler is such a great feeling.
Thanks so much Sonia!
Girl I hear you about those weekday long runs – I HEAR YOU. So not easy but you got it done!!! Great week!
Thanks so much Courtney. Looking forward to hearing about all your marathon adventures next week!
Congrats on your monthly mileage! And great job with your training runs, especially the 20 miler!! I know I will spazz out when I finally reach that distance!
Thanks so much Janelle! I may have done a small happy dance when I hit 20 miles. I will say that something will change mentally when you hit that distance. I can’t describe it, but you’ll know what I’m talking about once you hit that distance!
Yay! Congrats on your 20 miler and longest run! It is nice to feel a bit more at ease about finishing a full marathon after doing a 20 miler! You are doing great in you training for NYC!
Thanks so much Sharon. I was still doubting myself about if I would be able to do the marathon. Even though I’ve been putting in the work, I was still uneasy about it, but the 20 miler totally changed my mind!
You are rocking your marathon training! Great job!!
Thanks so much and congrats on your marathon finish yesterday!
