Less than a month until the NYC Marathon – yikes! The last 3 months of training has gone by so quickly. Luckily this was a cutback week – yay!
Monday
Rest Day (kind of..)
I didn’t really feel like doing much of anything after Sunday’s 20 miler. I knew I wasn’t going to run, but I had planned on getting in some type of workout. Instead I did about 15 minutes on the stationary bike before I called it a day.
Tuesday
6 mile run
This was a 5 am run which was painful, but it was the only time I could get the run done that day since I was volunteering in the afternoon/evening.
I volunteered to help with bib prep for the NYC Marathon. It was a great 5 hours filled with great conversation with the other volunteers, many of which have run the marathon before.
Wednesday
60 minute Boot Camp Class. Lots of circuits and free weights, just what I like!
Thursday
8 mile run. I had a much better 8 mile run this week. I think the trick was taking a two minute break in the middle of the run.
Friday
6 mile tempo run. This run went way better this week as I was actually able to do the whole ‘tempo’ thing lol
Saturday
REST DAY! I didn’t do any type of workout and appreciated the break!
Sunday
13.2 miles (Staten Island Half Marathon). I was supposed to do 16 miles but the weather was REALLY bad. I didn’t want to risk slipping on the pavement and injuring myself just to get in another 3 miles. While I do feel guilty for not getting in all my miles, this is the first long run I haven’t completed in all 12 weeks of training so I’m not going to beat myself up about it.
I’m happy that last week was a cut back week because this week is going to be jam packed with tons of running, including a 20 miler on Saturday!
Total Miles – 33.2 miles
Training Cycle – 340.65 miles
Grade – B
I’m giving myself a B this week because I didn’t get in all of my miles. Looking back on yesterday I could have hit the treadmill for the additional 3 miles, but I was honestly so beat by the time I got home and finally got warm. I’m a big believer in sticking to a training schedule, even if you have to move some workouts to different days, but in the long run I know that 3 miles is not going to have a negative impact on my marathon experience.
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments – I welcome any advice!
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
I’m also Linking Up with the Jess’s (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Less than a month for the NY Marathon!!! Exciting!!! Yeah, don’t beat yourself up for missing 3 miles of a run. It is not worth an injury or getting hurt.

I’m starting to get so excited now! I cannot believe that it’s less than a month away!
Jessie says
Oh, how exciting, the marathon is so close! Best to be safe so you make it to the starting line healthy!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jessie!
Sonia says
Getting excited too! I agree the 3 miles doesn’t break your training. You’ll do great! Good job on the HM!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sonia! I just saw that they released bib numbers today on the NYC Marathon app!
Marcia says
I don’t think missing those 3 miles will hurt you one bit. Great training week! You’re in the home stretch. Gosh time flies! Pretty medal!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Marcia! I’m so happy to be in the home stretch!
Sonia says
I LOVE the running poster. Where did you see it?
kookyrunner says
It was in the office that I volunteered at on Tuesday. It was the New York Road Runners office.

You are absolutely correct….in the grand scheme of all the miles you’ve done, missing a mere three miles will not impact anything. I’m supposed to do five extra miles (some before, some after) my half marathon this weekend. It’s kind of nice getting a medal for a “training” run LOL
kookyrunner says
It’s definitely nice to get a medal for doing a “long run”. It’s kind of like an awesome reward lol

I wouldn’t worry about those three miles – great week overall. You will be ready for NYC!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Courtney! And congrats on your PR in Chicago!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You are knocking out all of the half marathons! Great job! I’m sure being 3 miles short won’t hurt your training…you listened to your body which you know is the most important thing 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I felt guilty at first but then when I thought about it, I still technically got in a long run, so it’s all good! I’ve got 20 miles on deck this weekend!
Tricia Vaughn says
Kim I wouldn’t feel in the least bit bad about not doing much after your 20 miler!
Isn’t it amazing how just a simple break in the middle of a long run makes?
I remember last year when my plan called for 16 miles and I did a half that day. I think the racing part trumps the lack of miles though, even if weather conditions were ideal. You did the right thing.
kookyrunner says
It’s really amazing how the break in a middle of a long run makes a world of difference!
Thanks so much for the kind words. I know that overall 3 miles will not make a difference at all considering how many miles I have logged in training so far!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
Woohoo. You are killing your peak week right now. I cannot believe it is almost time for us to head to NYC!
kookyrunner says
The marathon is going to be here before we know it!!
Sharon says
You are doing great!! Looks like a good week! So excited for NYC for you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks – I’m starting to get excited too!

You know, sometimes less is more. I’d give you an A+ because running a half marathon race counts way more than just 13 training miles in my humble opinion. Nice medal too. Good luck with the 20 miler! Thanks for linking, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the kind words! Even though it was a hard race, I loved the medal as well!
Jess @ Jess Runs ATL says
Sorry, I’m a week behind on all my blog reading…ah!! Looks like a solid week, and I wouldn’t beat yourself up AT ALL on missing some miles. I’m guessing your plan is a static plan that you’re not altering as you go, and if you were working with a coach you may have been prescribed less miles this week as well. Just saying…the plan isn’t the be all end all ? Hope your 20 miler went well this week (I guess I will read that recap in a few hours…LOL) ?
kookyrunner says
I’m working with a coach but I haven’t had to deviate from the plan so far so I was hoping I would hit all my runs, oh well, lol. My coach said the exact same thing as you, plus it was a cutback week so looking at the big picture, it really wasn’t a big deal at all!
And yes, I just posted my week 13 recap a few minutes ago, lol
