I feel like I blinked and now week 5 is over – this was literally the fastest week ever, but I’m not complaining. Onward to week 6!
Monday
5 mile tempo run. Well this was harder than I thought. Also my IT band started to get cranky when I picked up the pace so that was no fun π
Tuesday
5 mile “easy” run. Well nothing about this run felt easy (as you can see in the photo, lol). My legs just weren’t having it after Monday’s tempo run.
Wednesday
60-minute boot camp class. Lots of sweaty fun with circuits.
Thursday
5 mile easy run. This run felt much better than Tuesday’s run, probably because I had a day off from running on Wednesday.
Friday
REST DAY!! π
Saturday
12 mile long run. This was the BEST long run I have had in a while! The weather wasn’t great, but it was the best it has been in several weeks. My mom is currently training for her first half marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Philly, so she completed a 10 mile run. We decided to #DabOnThem after our miles π
Sunday
60 minute HIIT class.
If you follow me on Instagram, I shared my Marathon Training Starter Kit. The one thing missing is KT Tape. I honestly could not get through training without any of these items!
Total Miles β 27 miles
Training Cycle β 110.2 miles
Grade β A
This was a great week (minus Tuesday’s run)! I’m keeping up with all PT exercises and foam rolling twice a day. I also broke the 100 mile mark for number of miles logged during this training cycle – hooray!
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments β I welcome any advice!
Iβm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
Iβm also Linking Up with the Jessβs (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!

I’m all about compression and Epsom salt baths for recovery after the long runs (particularly as they get longer). Scheduling a regular massage is nice too!
kookyrunner says
I always throw on a pair of compression socks after my long runs – It really helps a lot. I need to schedule a sports massage soon!
Jessie says
Thanks for linking up. How cool is it that your mom is training for her first half! That is so fun.
Sounds like a strong week- I’m impressed how good you are about foam rolling. I need to do the same π
kookyrunner says
I’m so excited for my mom – I hope that she has a great race!
The foam rolling is really helping me, even though it’s hard and it hurts!
HoHo Runs says
It sounds like you had a strong week of training, minus the little ITB flare up. How cool that your Mom is training for her first half marathon. Y’all look so cute doing the Dab in matching pink. I’m curious how you get your KT Tape to stick. Mine never stays put. Thanks for linking, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Yeah it’s really cool and I hope that she has a great first half marathon experience!
I had a hard time getting my KT tape to stick warlier this summer (due to all the humidity). Now I use rubbing alcohol on the area, let it dry and then apply my tape. It seems to be sticking better now!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I love that you train with your mom! How awesome is that?
Great job on that 12 miler!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy! I’m hoping my 14 miler goes just as well this Saturday (fingers crossed)

Congrats on a great training week for the upcoming NYC Marathon. I ran it last year – it really is the best! Lots of good luck with your training! I know you will love this marathon!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! I am really looking forward to the race because I have heard such good things about it!
Kimberly Hatting says
Aleve is my go-to “cure-all.” That’s great your mother is training for a half marathon! That’s great you could train together on your long runs!
kookyrunner says
Aleve has been helping me so much – I love it!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
Glad your IT band didn’t bother you the rest of the week!
That’s great that your mom will be running her first half!
Please explain the Dab thing. I had students that would do that in class and I had no idea what it meant.
kookyrunner says
Yes, it’s been feeling better as the weeks go on and I hope it stays that well! Yes, my mom is very excited about the race!
The “dab” was made famous by Cam Newton (A professional football player). He would do it to celebrate a touchdown. Fans started to imitate it and thats how it got to be so popular!
Marcia says
Great week! I’ve been so off track with my training I lost count of what training week it even was. Denial anyone? I think Indy is the same weekend as NYCM so I guess I’m in week 6 now too. Yay for training with your mom!
kookyrunner says
You’ll get back on track soon!
Jess @ Jess Runs ATL says
Congrats on another solid week of training! I just love that you got to do your training run with your mom!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I really wish all long runs would go as well as my long run did on Saturday!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You had some great runs and workouts this past week, congrats! I love that you and your mom run together, especially for such a long distance which can really be tough solo sometimes! I can’t remember the last time I ran 5 miles back to back…not easy, but you still got through it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I’m just hoping that my legs get used to the back to back runs at some point!
Tricia Vaughn says
Cranky IT’s are no fun. I hope it will quiet down for you. I dealt with them several times last year too and I ended up having to walk the last 6 miles of my marathon.
How awesome your mom is training for first half as well! That must be really special getting to run with her.
This week did go by pretty fast. Thanks for linking up with us in the Weekly Wrap we sure appreciate you, Kim.
kookyrunner says
Ugh – The IT band injury is the worse! I have never been so annoyed by an injury in my life. I have good days and bad days but luckily I’ve had a string of good days recently. I enjoy running with my mom and I’m so excited for her upcoming half.
Thanks so much for hosting the link up. I’ve connected with so many awesome runners already.
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
This was a fabulous week. You did a great job getting all your runs in and listening to your body when your IT band got a bit cranky on Monday during tempo. I am so freaking proud of you.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Abby. I felt like this past week went very well and I hope all those good vibes carry on into this week π
Zenaida Arroyo says
That is so cool that your mom is training for a half marathon! You are definitely getting the hang of this training. π
kookyrunner says
I’m trying, although this week wasn’t a great week π Next week will be better!
Michael says
Wow! 14 miler is so impressive! Congratulations to you and your mom!
