Week 9 is done! We’re now getting into the “intense” period of training, and it’s Fall racing season so there’s a lot going on! This was also my first time incorporating a race into my long run (more on that in another post). Also my schedule was changed around a little bit because of the races on Saturday and Sunday.
Monday
7 mile ‘easy’ run. There was nothing easy about this run, but I got it done.
Tuesday
3 mile run + 30 minutes of strength training. I don’t suggest starting a workout at 7:30 p.m., LOL.
Wednesday
60 minute Boot Camp Class
Thursday
5 mile tempo run. Do tempo runs every get easier? At least Ryan made things a little better..
Friday
Rest Day/Travel Day. I arrived in Philly in the afternoon and hit the expo to get my bibs.
Saturday
Rock ‘n’ Roll Philly 5K. I was supposed to take it easy, but I foolishly got caught up in all the race hype – whoops!
Sunday
16.15 mile run, including the RnR Philly half marathon. I did a 3 mile run before the race. I was hoping to hit my long run pace for the race but the humidity pretty much made that impossible.
Total Miles – 34.25 miles
Training Cycle – 233.45 miles
Grade – B
This week just felt hard and I’m really sore today. I ran too fast on Saturday and too slow on Sunday so the weekend was a big thumbs down as far as training, so that’s why I gave myself a B this week. Also I’m just over the humidity. I feel like its been 3 months of this crappy weather and it’s very frustrating. I’m hoping that this next training week goes well but I have my longest run ever, 18 miles, on Sunday.
On a happier note, the official NYC Marathon sneaker from Asics was released and it’s amazing!! I can’t run in Asics sneakers, but I can certainly do cross training classes in them! They will be available to buy on October 1.
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments – I welcome any advice!
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
I’m also Linking Up with the Jess’s (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

What a great week of training! It looks like the conditions in Philly were really tough. I have a hard time “taking it easy” during a race, too….haha. You’re doing awesome!! I hope you’re treating yourself to some nice hot baths!

I was so annoyed with myself for not running easier during the race – oh well, lesson learned. Today i did a bunch of stretching and foam rolling so I really hope that helps my legs!

Congrats on a strong week!
Isn’t it crazy how 7:30 PM is so much harder than 5:30 AM 🙂 Runner problems!
It seemed like a lot of bloggers I follow were at Philly this weekend and it was a tough (Humid) day out there. Way to push through!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Yes it’s so funny that the late evening workout was harder than the early morning workout haha.
Philly was fun and I was able to see a lot of blogger friends, but the weather was so bad!

The conditions in Philly on Sunday were really tough. I’m so with you in needing this humidity to be over now. Still looks like you had a good week of training!

I have another race this weekend and the weather looks WAY better so I’m looking forward to it lol.

Congratulations on your races. I have a hard time going out too fast as well. Especially on short ones like 5ks. Enjoy your recovery.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! I really have to work on starting slow and then picking up the pace!
Shannon @GirlsGotSole says
Congrats on a great week of training, including running a half! Nice bling!
The weather this training season has been way too hot for so many of us, so I feel you. Way to push through!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Shannon!

I keep hearing how tough the race conditions were at Philly over the weekend. Loving your “over the humidity” face. That’s my “is summer @#*$ing over yet?!?!!” face right now. Still in the 90s here in the Southeast!
kookyrunner says
It actually made em feel a little bit better to hear that other people had a hard time with the weather because at first I thought it was just me, lol
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I am still bummed that we weren’t able to meet when you were in Philly :(. Sunday’s humidity was a KILLER – I should have set aside my goals but I couldn’t let it go, smh. I still think you got in some solid runs and big picture they will all help with training!
kookyrunner says
I know, me too 🙁 I underestimated how long it would take me to get to the Rocky steps on Sunday morning so I was running late – I was so annoyed! But I really love Philly and I want to do another race there soon!
I’m over the humidity, but I was really annoyed during the race as I saw my pace get slower and slower. I was killing it until mile 7 and then my body was just shut down – so frustrating!!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
The humidity is not your fault this is just getting crazy – it is almost October!
And no, tempo runs don’t ever get easier. They are always supposed to be challenging so if it gets easy you increase the duration or the speed – sucks right?!? Oh so good for you though.
kookyrunner says
As you know I’m SO over the humidity and heat and I need Fall weather like ASAP!
Sharon says
Sounds like a good week! Way to get your runs done! Humidity is tough! That is one thing I don’t miss when I lived on the East coast! Great job at RnR Philly!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I think the humidity should be leaving very soon, hopefully 🙂

Love that face! I’ve been making it since APRIL. So OVER it. It is a very nice medal though. I’m very impressed you ran 3 miles before the race. I would have planned it for afterwards — and then skipped out. LOL. You rock! Thanks for linking, Kim.
kookyrunner says
LOL, well I know how lazy I get after a race, so that’s why I had to do the three miles before the race 🙂

Those shoes are cute! Great job on your runs in Philly!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Zenaida!

I love your recap! I’m still working on my recap from my (near train wreck of a ) race from Saturday. Too many jumbled thoughts…
kookyrunner says
It’s definitely hard to get all your thoughts written down when you have so much to say! Good luck with your recap!
Claudia Smith says
Great recap! Glad to hear you had a great race! I love the shoes so much. I enjoy reading your post. Thanks for sharing!
