Earlier this month I got to experience the TCS New York City Marathon weekend. I didn’t actually run the marathon, but I did participate in the NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5K the day before the marathon and I volunteered at a water station the day of the marathon.
Expo
I was lucky enough to be able to spend the weekend at the Grand Hyatt hotel located near Grand Central Station. Last year I won a free hotel stay at my job’s annual holiday party and I finally decided to use this gift that weekend. Luckily my mom and I was able to catch a shuttle bus to the expo right in front of the hotel. This was my first experience at a large race expo and it didn’t dissapoint! We only spent about an hour at the expo but we saw so many different new brands and products. The energy at the expo was nothing short of electric. You could feel all the positive energy an excitement. Although we were just there to pick up bibs and shirts for the 5K race, I did peak over to witness people picking up their items for the marathon and every single person had a huge smile on their face.
There were a ton of great vendors at the expo but ASICS had a huge section on the floor – it was basically like a huge Asics store inside of the expo. I was soooo many things that I wanted to buy, but I controlled myself. I didn’t want to buy any type of marathon gear since I was not running the marathon – it just didn’t feel right (even though the shirts and hats were so cool). I also spent some time at the Powerbar station. They had free samples of many of their products and they were all pretty good! I could see myself incorporating some of their products into my training this winter.
