Happy Wednesday! Well September certainly went by quickly, but I’m so happy to welcome October and the start of Fall 🙂 Also, it’s finally marathon month which is super exciting as well! Overall I think September went well. I was able to log 134 miles for the month, which was my highest monthly mileage so far this year. October on going to be a weird month for goals since I’m running the Chicago Marathon early in the month, and then running the NYC Marathon in early November.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from September:
Train Smart
I did a good job with this in September. I got through the entire month injury free so that’s a win-win.
Grade: A+
Enjoy my two racecations
Unfortunately the horrible hot and humid weather didn’t really make either racecation that enjoyable, but I made the most of it, and I finally got to meet Janelle in Montreal! Luckily I got through all my races and that’s most important!
Grade: B
Continue change in eating habits
This will always be a work in progress for me but I’m taking baby steps to get to my ultimate goal. While I definitely enjoyed some “not-so-healthy” meals last month, I also experimented with making new recipes (buffalo cauliflower – yum!).
Grade: B
Here are my goals for October:
PR at the Chicago Marathon
While it’s going to be a little warmer than I was hoping for on Sunday, I still feel like I can PR the race. I’ve put in a lot of hard work this training cycle and I hope that it shows on race day. I’ll do another post this week on my specific A, B and C goals for the race.
Stay healthy between the Chicago Marathon and NYC Marathon
I feel like I haven’t mentioned this a lot because Chicago is my goal race, but I’m also running the NYC Marathon on November 5th. With less than a month between both races, I want to make sure I recover well from Chicago and still get in runs so that I’m ready for NYC. Luckily my coach did a 24 week training plan for me because she knew I was running both races, so I can follow her plan for the 4 weeks between both races.
Start Holiday shopping
To be honest I look for deals year-round, but I like to definitely start my holiday shopping in October. I don’t really like shopping last minute for holiday gifts since I hate dealing with the crowds in the stores.
Do you set monthly goals? If so, do you have any goals for October?

Good luck! And stay healthy in between!
I would definitely rather tackle a cold race like Wineglass than a hot one like NOLA — but I did PR NOLA, too, so it can be done!

Thanks Judy – I’ve been hydrating like a boss all week in anticipation for Sunday!
