Happy Friday! It’s already time to set goals for another month. September was a great month! I had a few busy weeks at work but my marathon training went well. Now it’s finally October – race month!
Since it’s the start of a new month it’s time to list my monthly goals for October. I love setting monthly goals to keep myself accountable throughout the year.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Run a strong half marathon
Grade: A+
I had a really great race in September! I felt strong and actually ran the entire race (except for a quick walk break up a hill). It was probably the best half marathon I’ve had in about 2 years and a great confidence booster for the Chicago Marathon.
Practice more self care
Grade:B
I definitely need some help in this area, lol. I was pretty good about stretching and foam rolling, but other than that I didn’t do too much self care. This is still a work in progress for me.
Search for a Fall Half Marathon
Grade: A
Done! I’m going to run the Charlotte Half Marathon on November 16th. This will be state #15 and half marathon #42 for me. I’m super excited and looking forward to exploring the city since I’ve never been there before. If you’re interested in signing up, here are two discounts for you:
-BIBRAVE5K to save $5 off the 5K
-BIBRAVERELAY to save $25 off the relay.
Here are my goals for October!
Enjoy the Chicago Marathon
This time next week I’ll be in Chicago! I am SO excited and really looking forward to having a great time in the city and enjoying the race. I don’t have a goal time. I literally just want to finish the race smiling. I had an awful race there in 2017, actually my worse race ever, so I just want to run strong and enjoy all the spectators!
Survive OrangeTheory Fitness Hell Week
Hell Week will take place from Oct 24-31. To participate in Hell Week, participants have to take at least 5 classes during that week. The workouts are all super intense (more so than normal OTF classes). I’ll get a Hell Week participant shirt for completing the challenge. I know it’s gonna be hard but since my running will decrease after the marathon, I’m hopeful I’ll be able to get through all the classes!
Do typical “Fall” activities
Since I’ll have more free time now, especially on the weekends, I would like to participate in some typical Fall activities. I’m thinking about going apple picking, or getting some apple cider donuts, or maybe even doing a beer tasting with pumpkin beers. There are endless options and I want to make sure I take advantage of the the start of Fall!
That’s it for this month – wish me luck!
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for October?

Great month.
Kudos on Surftown.
You will kick a$$ in Chicago.
I miss those fall activities. Too busy working and running.

I feel you on the last one – its hard to do a lot of the fun Fall activities when there’s so much to do in terms of marathon training.

I’ll share my goals for October on Tuesday.
Sometimes the races we put the least pressure on ourselves are our best races — I hope that will be true for you! Have a great time in Chicago. See what I did there? š
kookyrunner says
I hope so too! I’m literally going on with no time goal which I think will really help on race day.

I am excited about Chicago marathon as well. We need to meet up! I wish I loved close to an Orange Theory. It sounds like a great workout. My friend does it all the time and loves it!

I’ll be at the Expo on Friday late morning/early afternoon. I’m also trying to plan a brunch for Saturday. Let me know if either work for you!
Denise @ runheartfit says
Love your Surftown medal!
Sounds like you’re going into Chicago strong. Positive attitude (which you have) is more than half the battle.
I like your Fall bucket list board. My goal is to do many of those things too. Maybe we can compare notes at the end of the month. š
kookyrunner says
Yes! I’m definitely all about going there with a positive attitude as I know that will help me during the hard parts of the race.

I’ve committed to setting my alarm an hour earlier each morning in October and doing the Miracle Morning Routine from Hal Elrod’s book. I recommend reading/listening to it if you haven’t already.
kookyrunner says
That’s a really awesome goal!

I am so excited for you for Chicago! You are so ready!
I am looking forward to Hell Week. I should be cleared to workout as usual by then!
kookyrunner says
That’s cool! So glad that you will be able to do Hell Week. The shirt looks really cool this year.
Jenn says
Oh, good luck! You are going to rock that marathon like nobody’s business!
I love that fall bucket list and I think that you should totally treat yourself to some of them as a reward for all your hard work!
Hell Week sounds awful, but you get a shirt, so I would be all in!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn!
Angela says
That is awesome you found a half marathon and so cool it will be your 15th state! Is there an official challenge you are doing with this? I would love to look into it š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Angela! No official challenge, but I made up a 25 state challenge for myself. I know a few people that have done the 50 state challenge but I just don’t have the budget for that lol
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I have no doubt that you are going to do great in Chicago!
I love that fall bucket list graphic! It will be nice to have more time once the marathon is done.
See you soon š
kookyrunner says
I literally can’t wait to have more free time, especially on the weekends!
Can’t wait to see you this weekend!
