Happy Sunday everyone! Did you have a good week? This week felt super long so I was more than happy to welcome to weekend. This was week 3 of my training for the Cleveland 8K and Half Marathon (If you want to join me in Cleveland, use code KGCLE10 to save 10% off registration). Overall I was pretty happy with how my workouts went this week.
Also this was such a busy race weekend – Paris Marathon, Cherry Blossom Ten Mile, RnR San Francisco and RnR Raleigh – congrats to all the runners!
Monday 4/2
4 miles + strength training (15 mins) + 30 tricep dips.
Yup, we got snow on April 2. It was kind of like a delayed April Fools Day joke, lol.
Tuesday 4/3
30 push-ups.
This was an unexpected rest day. The weather was so yucky outside and I was pretty beat from work so I just decided to rest, but I still did 30 push-ups for Rachel’s challenge.
Wednesday 4/4
2 miles + Boot Camp (60 minutes) + 30 jump squats.
I was happy to break in my new Brooks Launch 4 sneakers before boot camp class. I really liked them!
Thursday 4/5
4 mile run + 40 tricep dips.
This run felt pretty good, which is weird since my legs are usually sore after boot camp!
Friday 4/6
Rest Day, but I did 40 push-ups for the challenge.
Saturday 4/7
6 mile run + 40 jump squats.
I think it was 35 degrees when we started our run. Not too cold but not what you’d expect for Spring. It didn’t rain or snow so I was pretty happy about that. This was supposed to be a 5 mile run but I over estimated the distance, oops!
Sunday 4/8
Body Works + Abs class (45 minutes) + Spinning (45 mins)
I think I’ll go back to my double workout Sundays since my mileage is still relatively low. I really like the combination of these two classes back-to-back on Sundays.
Total Weekly Mileage: 16
Total Training Cycle Miles ā 33.5
Grade ā A
I’m happy with how my workouts went this week but I’m struggling with my low mileage. I guess I’m used to seeing higher weekly mileage from marathon training so mentally I feel like I’m not running enough. I know this is silly since I’m training for a half marathon vs a marathon so hopefully I’ll get over this feeling soon. On a positive note, by step game is strong and Fitbit reminded me of this when I earned a new badge.
Yesterday I came across this post, “The Ultimate Crowdsourced Sports Bra Guide“. I wanted to share it here because I think it’s such a great read. So many female runners struggle with finding the right sports bra and I love that Kelly asked for opinions from women of all body types. My sports bra of choice is Moving Comfort Juno. I’ve used this style of bra for a few years and it keeps the girls in place (no bounce)!
And in totally unrelated to running news, I saw this posted on Facebook and it made me laugh so hard because it’s SO true!
How do you balance running and strength training when training for a race?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Looks like a great week! I still feel like my mileage is low even though Im not training for any long races so there is no need to run a ton of mileage. Its just hard to get out of that mindset! I really hope the weather improves soon.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I know the whole mileage thing is all in my head and that my weekly mileage is good, it’s just hard coming off marathon training I guess!
Jessie says
Great week Kim! Those Launch are so pretty š I tried the Launch and the Ravennas work better for me, but the Launch always come in the most fun patterns and colors!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jessie! Brooks recommended the Ravennas to me for a support sneaker so I’m going to try a pair once they go on sale š
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Oh my gosh that quote is so funny, yet so true! I had those same sneakers and really like them. Hope you do too!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that you like the sneakers. I’m hoping that I will continue to love them to – so far so good!
Lesley says
I laughed at that owl picture because that’s Colorado. 70s on Monday, snow all day Friday. This is normal spring in the Rockies… I just want my warm weather.
kookyrunner says
LOL, that owl photo is pretty spot on for most of the country this “Spring”. Mother Nature is definitely on vacation.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
all of your strength training is paying off. You look really toned and fit! I strength train 2x a week and I really love it.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Deborah! I’m just hoping to get some more definition in my arms/back.
Right now I’m strength training 3x a week and loving it.
Wendy says
You know how I feel about strength training! It’s all good!
I love my Moving Comfort Juno bra too. But I also have a Champion bra I love too!
kookyrunner says
Strength training just works better for me, and I love it. Running everyday would drive me nuts and kill my knees, so I’m happy I can strength train!
I actually do have 2-3 Champion bras that are pretty good too – I got them from Target.
Coco says
Ooh, those shoes are pretty! You know your mileage is right where it should be — you don’t need to be doing more now. š LOL on that meme. My ankle is still tender from that board game injury. š®
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I know it’s all in my head and that my mileage is A-OK š
That meme is my life in a nutshell – I’m glad other people can relate!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
Balance running and strength training while training? Nah, I mostly just hold my breath and plow forward! lol Actually, that’s not funny because that really IS what I used to do. Now, I try to make sure I’m really balancing things. I’m only going to CrossFit 2x a week and they post the workouts a week in advance (most CrossFit gyms refuse to do that). I can pick and choose and move my running workouts around, if necessary. š
You are so beast mode with your Sunday workouts! I would be on the floor in a puddle.
kookyrunner says
I love the double workouts on Sundays, but I am a little sore today lol!
Kimberly Hatting says
Iāve gotten comfy with my ālowā mileage, but realize I may need to up the ante this summer when 26.2 training kicks in. It seems like itās been an eternity since Iāve bent in the midst of that LOL
kookyrunner says
But at least you’ll have a great base when you start marathon training in a few months!
HoHo Runs says
The longer distance runs become such a part of our lives during marathon training that it does seem odd to run less. I hope you guys will get some really nice Spring weather soon. You’ve definitely paid your dues this year.
kookyrunner says
That’s so true! Logically it only makes sense to run less miles when training for a half marathon – I hope my brain understands this soon, haha.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I was just telling my boyfriend about that meme at the end of your post! And it’s 8:30 and we are laying in bed hahahaha. This is 32 right??
I struggle with seeing lower mileage too, even though I haven’t started marathon training again yet. It’s weird to me.
kookyrunner says
LOL the struggle is real! I have no clue how I survived college on limited sleep and lots of partying, lol
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
That picture with the owl – LOL. I definitely incorporate strength into my training cycle. I typically do one or two weight classes and a yoga class – the weight classes are either on the same day as a hard effort to double up, or on a no running day. Yoga is a recovery day too.
kookyrunner says
The owl meme makes me laugh every time I see it! Yoga is something that I can never do regularly. I know I need to do it, but because I’m so inflexible I don’t like it, lol
Sarah @ merrillthon says
Iām trying to figure out the running/strength training balance at the moment. I had to take a little time off of running (and anything too taxing on the legs), and cane to realize how weak my upper body was. Congrats on a great week of training – looking forward to seeing how you continue to progress!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Sarah! It’s a delicate balance for sure between strength training and running.
Denise @ runheartfit says
I’m originally from the Eat coast so I get those late snow falls and how frustrating it can be…ugh.
30 push-ups! My goal is 10, lol! Great job!
I saw that saying on fb too. All too real!
kookyrunner says
Totally! It’s not that I mind the cold weather but the snow has to go!
Marcia says
I love my strength training but now since I got injured, I’m a little gun shy. I was so sad to have to DNS RnRCarlsbad. I swear spring is never coming.
kookyrunner says
I totally understand. I modify a lot of moves to make sure that my knees stay happy with me lol
Anna @ Piper's Run says
What a great week and variety as well! What do you do for strength training (like when you ran 4 miles)? I need to start doing some more strength training and wanted to incorporate it into my running/cycling days – after I run/cycle. I’m interested to hear what you do.
kookyrunner says
I usually do a boot camp class or a body works + abs class – they are great full body workouts. When I do quicker workouts (15 minutes), I focus on bodyweight exercises – burpees, push-ups, core work, etc.
Mary says
Ypu seem to have a very good balance between your running and your other fitness activities, and I’m impressed by what you can do. 30 jump squats? In my dreams! I don’t even want to think about what my knees would feel like after that. And the 30 pushups are impressive too.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Mary!
For the jump squats I try to protect my knees by not squatting all the way. If I did my knees would hate me!
Smitha @ FauxRunner says
Pretty shoes!!!
Spring is here one day, and then gone the next. Mother nature can’t make up her mind.
kookyrunner says
Definitely! Mother Nature is a little crazy this year.
Chrissy says
Oh my goodness, I so need that sports bra guide. I have two sports bras that I’ve been running in for about 10 years now and I’m sure they’re probably stretched out more than they should be, lol. I need to get some new ones!
kookyrunner says
Finding a good sports bra is so hard! I hope that the guide helps you.
Teresa says
Great week Kim …and yes, I’ve soooo pulled a muscle putting socks on! Old age sucks! Lol
kookyrunner says
LOL me too! I’ve actually hurt myself sneezing once haha
Andrea says
This spring weather has been pretty spastic all over the country! Way to get your runs in despite the cold and snow. I’m ready for warm weather though.
kookyrunner says
The Spring weather is definitely on vacation, lol.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Great week Kim! I hope those Brooks work for you!
kookyrunner says
So far so good on the Brooks! š
Renee @runlaugheatpie says
Those BROOKS!!!! OMG I am in LOVE! I wish I could wear normal shoes!!
It sounds like a good week Kim! I know it feels weird to have low mileage but the longer runs will be here before you know it. Wish I could run Cleveland with you but… it’s a bit far for me at this time š
kookyrunner says
So far so good on the Brooks. I think if I get to 50 miles in them and they still feel good, then I have a keeper!
Jenn says
This week did seem really long!
I still can’t get over seeing all that snow! Although, we just had a nasty hail storm, so what do I know.
I hate strength training (why can’t we just run????), but it’s a necessary evil. I know I am better when I do it, so I suck it up and get my butt to the gym.
kookyrunner says
Right?! The longest week ever!!
Oh I’m the exact opposite, I love strength training lol. I feel like both running and strength training are equally hard though!
Rach @ Girl On The Run says
Seriously, this snow needs to stop. I am so OVER it. At least by Friday evening I was running in short sleeves. I am just ready for spring weather for real by now
kookyrunner says
I feel like Spring is currently on vacation. I still have to use the seat warmers in my car, LOL!
Clarinda says
Great week, Kim! Don’t be hard on yourself for the lower mileage. Just enjoy! š Love the two memes you shared (the owl and the getting old). They made me smile!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Clarinda! Glad that the memes made you smile š
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job! The double workout on Sunday sounds fun…I haven’t gone to spinning class in ages, I always cut it out when I get into real training mode. It must feel weird having such a “low” mileage after all that darn marathon training, but you’re off to a great start!
kookyrunner says
I know what you mean. It seems like so many other things take a back seat when we’re marathon training – that’s always the case for me too.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I agree with your sentiments on the snow. It has felt like Mother Nature has been playing a huge prank on us. I think that we’ve all suffered enough and that Spring needs to make her permanent appearance.
kookyrunner says
Exactly! It’s like an extended April Fools Day joke haha
