Happy Sunday! Well the theme for this week was hazy, hot and humid! August definitely went out with a bang, that’s for sure. Thankfully we’re getting a little break from the crazy weather this weekend, but it’s back to super hot temperatures on Monday – boo š
Week 5 of training went really well! I was able to get in all of my planned workouts and even a few ‘bonus’ workouts. Let’s discuss!
Monday, August 27
4 mile run + Yoga (30 minutes).
This was my first day of my staycation and it was super productive! I got my blood works done for my annual physical next week, ran 4 miles, did 30 minutes of yoga, and got a pedicure, all before noon!
Tuesday, August 28
Spinning (45 minutes) + Boot Camp (60 minutes).
Another double workout day! The spinning class started out with a warmup to ‘Rappers Delight’ and that’s how I knew it would be an awesome workout!
Wednesday, August 29
4 mile run + Boot Camp (60 minutes).
I completed the run earlier in the day on the treadmill because it was absolutely disgusting outside! I’m glad I did the run earlier in the day so that my legs were fresh for boot camp that evening.
Thursday, August 30
Spinning (45 minutes) + Stretching (15 minutes).
Another great spinning class followed by some intense stretching. It really felt good!
I also completed my very first Instagram Live video. For the next few months I’m working with Great Lakes Gelatin through a campaign with FitApproach so I did a video speaking about my experience with the product. I was so nervous! I’m not a big fan of doing videos and I hate the sound of my voice, but the more I do it, the better I’ll get at it!
Friday, August 31
12 mile long run.
I rarely have Friday off from work so I took full advantage and got my long run done! It was pretty good until the last 2 miles. More hip soreness but not as bad as last week so that’s good!
Saturday, September 1
4 mile walk.
Although this was technically my “rest day”, I decided to make it an active rest day and got in a 4 mile walk.
Sunday, September 2
Body Work + Abs (45 minutes).
Closed out the week with more strength training!
Total Weekly Mileage: 20 miles
Weekly Weight Loss:
Summary: 3 runs, 1 Walk, 2 spinning classes, 2 boot camp classes, 1 yoga class, 1 body works + abs class
Grade This Week ā A+
Excuse me while I brag, but I killed it this week! After feeling a little worn down last week, I was happy to bounce back this week. I’m 100% sure that being off work had something to do with it, lol. This week was the perfect balance of running, strength straining, spinning and stretching. Although I only did one yoga class, I did a lot of stretching every day. I still had some hip soreness on Friday’s long run but it was better than last week so I think the yoga, stretching and PT exercises I’m doing are helping. With just 2 weeks until RnR Philly, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my hips continue to feel better.
While I was home I also took a look at my vacation time and I have a good chunk use between now and December 31. Of course this means that I can fit in more racecations this year, right? I already put in my time off for my races in Delaware (just taking one day off for that race) and South Carolina (taking off 2 days). I’m considering going RnR San Antonio since it’s not too expensive for the flights/hotel, but I’m just annoyed that there are no direct flights from NYC to San Antonio. I think that’s so weird! I absolutely hate layovers and try to avoid them at all costs – I just feel like it makes travel more stressful. IF i don’t do RnR San Antonio, I may look at some other races to see if I can knock off another state on my 25 State Challenge.
As I mentioned in my August Runfessions post, I’m down 13 pounds since Memorial Day. I didn’t hit my overall goal of 15 pounds, but I got pretty darn close! Although my membership was supposed to end this week, I’m going to continue on the Weight Watchers plan for the next few months.
Totally unrelated to running but if you have the opportunity to take a staycation, I highly recommend it! I didn’t realize how desperately I needed some time off to recharge my batteries so to speak. It’s really been beneficial!
That’s it for this week – thanks for reading!
How was your week? How are you dealing with the heat and humidity during your runs? Have you ever done a staycation?

I’m sure that staycation helped! Since I don’t work, the only vacation I get is when we actually go somewhere. And I know I shouldn’t complain, I don’t work!
It definitely sounds like you killed it this week! Nice job with the long run on Friday. I really kind of wish i’d done mine then, although sat wasn’t too bad, especially since I got to run with people for a change.
But that makes it even more important for you to have epic racecations!
The weather from Friday onward was so much better than earlier in the week. I was happy for that. Unfortunately we’re back to the hot weather tomorrow. Sigh š
This summer I took a full week off but only traveled Saturday through Wednesday. It was nice to come back and be able to get some things done the rest of the week! Glad you had a great week of workouts. I could definitely see how being off from work can make workouts go better!
I agree – Vacations are great and much needed for sure, but I like having time to just run errands and do things around the house.
Nice job! Wouldn’t it be great if we only had to work about running, yoga, and strength classes in a week? Staycations are the best.
It would be awesome! It’s amazing how much more you can get done with an extra 40 hours in a week, lol.
You did nail this week! And I still think you should count your 13 lb loss as success – it is a huge accomplishment. Yay for more vacation time, but I’m with you on lay-overs. I always try to take an early direct flight if I can, but sometimes you can’t.
Thanks Coco! I was happy that I was able to get in a lot of workouts this week.
I always feel so much pressure with a layover because if the firs flight is delayed, you’re kinda screwed!
Staycations are great. I’m going up to my parents’ place in a couple weeks. It’s a vacation, and isn’t too far away and could be a staycation. Very much needed, and I have to wait 2 weeks :-/
That’s awesome and I’m sure you will have a great time with your parents!
Hard to believe RnR Philly is almost here! You definitely had a solid week! About those 50 states…have you ever been to Iowa? š
I know! I can’t believe that it’s only 2 weeks ago. Hopefully we can meet up for lunch that weekend!
I haven’t been to Iowa so I need a race there. Which one would you recommend?
Have you run in Wisconsin yet? I’m eyeing a half marathon in Madison the weekend of November 10. Could be really fun!
Nice week of workouts. Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to work?
I haven’t run in Wisconsin yet and I don’t have a race that weekend…hmm I might need to look into this further. Whats the name of the race?
So I have a mental countdown in my head about when I can retire. Just 30 more years to go, LOL.
Congrats on a strong week! What a wonderful staycation week. It’s a fitness-cation š
Thanks so much Jessie!
Own it girl, you totally slayed the week! Its such a bummer when flights hold us back from doing the races we’d like. That happens to me a lot. I can’t believe how quickly Philly is sneaking up!
Thanks Marcia! Yeah I’m going to keep looking for flights and hope that something direct pops up!
What a nice staycation week and week of workouts! You’re inspiring me to find my own week to recharge my batteries. I’m amazed that you were able to work out after having your blood done!
Thanks Sarah! It was really a great week and I was glad to have the extra time to get a lot of things done.
I hope that you’re able to take a staycation soon so that you can recharge your batteries!
Glad your hip is on the mend. I am so over this weather. Wanted one more day of good weather, but it was bad even at the beach today
Ya on vacation planning. For San Antonio, check Southwest?
Thanks Cari! I’ve still got some work to do in regards to my hip but it’s slowly getting better.
I checked Southwest but unfortunately they don’t have any direct flights to San Antonio either š
Oh bummer š
I still remember a hurricane diverted flight as a kid — we were supposed to get to Houston but ended up in San Antonio. Was cool then.
Wow, what a great way to close out August! Its amazing how much we’re able to accomplish at home when we’re off from work. Kudos to you on the 13 pound weight loss. That’s something to be quite proud of!
Thanks Kathryn! I was happy to end the month on a positive note!
Wow, you did a lot this week and good for you for rocking it since it was a pretty tough week weather wise! Sounds like you have some fun options for racecations!
Thanks! I was very happy for indoor workouts last week lol.
I hope I’m able to fit in another racecation this year since I have the vacation time available.
Incredible week! You got so much done! You should be very proud. It’s great you’ve got some time left to fit in more racecations but I’m surprised — I would think you could fly from NYC to anywhere! Which race are you running in South Carolina? Also, great job on the 13 pounds! Thanks for linking.
It’s so weird that they are no direct flights from NYC – I was so surprised by that too! I’m doing the Kiawah Half Marathon in SC in December.
I had a great staycation back in July – really productive and I got all my runs etc in without worrying about work but in the comfort of my own area and with all my kit to choose from.
You are STRONG! All that work: amazing stuff.
It’s amazing how productive we can be during a staycation!
What a fantastic week! You have full bragging rights my friend. You killed it and it sounds like the staycation was just what you needed. That’s what I need so much right now – I feel its been go-go-go at work for months now and I just want some time off when the kids are back at school where I can just relax and regroup.
I feel that sometimes we just need to give ourselves a little break from the go-go-go of everyday life. I hope you’re able to take a staycation soon!
Rockstar! You had an amazing week! Love seeing that 10 miler!
I meant 12 miler!
Thanks so much Jenn!
That is so awesome that you got your extra workouts in! The weather here in Chicago also has been brutally hot and humid. That is awesome that you have lost so much weight. I’m down about 7 pounds and would love to lose another 10!
Congrats on your weight loss this summer!
The weather has been so gross and I can’t wait for Fall š
Congrats on a killer training week! We are dealing with the heat and humidity here in Myrtle Beach too. It’s frustrating to train through, but I know it will only make me a stronger runner!
Thanks! Yes, the weather is super annoying but a least Fall will be here soon š
Looks like a fabulous week for you. Those log runs are looking good!
Thanks! It was a great week but not I’m back to my regular schedule unfortunately, lol
You absolutely crushed it this week!
There’s a lot to be said for a good staycation – I’m coming off a week of a combination of day trips and being at home running errands, etc and I feel totally rejuvenated.
I really want to run San Antonio too but the lack of direct flights from Boston is a real bummer.
Totally agree! Feeling rejuvenated is awesome.
What’s up with the lack of direct flights there? I thought it was a pretty big city lol
Congrats on your weight loss journey. I am not a big fan of yoga but maybe I would like the one for runners.
Thanks! The Runners for Yoga DVD is great because the stretches really are designed to hit areas that affect runners.
