Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a great weekend. For those dealing with Hurricane Florence – you are all in my thoughts and prayers and please stay safe! It seems like the storm lost some momentum as the days went on so I’m hoping that the damage won’t be as bad!
I kept it light this week (sorry for the lack of photos) since it was race week! Here’s how my workouts went for my last week of training.
Monday, September 10
Yoga for Recovery (30 minutes).
Decided to take it easy on my body after a weekend full of workouts.
Tuesday, September 11
Walking (1 mile) + 2 mile run.
Just needed a quick workout to shake out my legs, but still keep them fresh before race weekend.
Wednesday, September 12
Boot Camp (60 minutes).
It was good to get back to my weekly boot camp class after skipping it last week. She really did a full total body workout and it was amazing!
Thursday, September 13
3 mile run.
Last run before the weekend. It was a good run at a comfortable pace.
Friday, September 14
Spinning (30 minutes).
I did a quick 30 minute spinning class on my Peloton bike in the morning, worked a half day and then hopped on the Amtrak train around 1pm to head into Philly. The expo wasn’t that big so we were in and out rather quickly, but managed to snap a quick photo.
Saturday, September 15
Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia 5K and 10K (Race recap coming later this week)
I ran the 5K first and then rushed back to the start line to run the 10K. I only had about 4 minutes in between both races. It was hard, but I did it!
Sunday, September 16
Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon (Race Recap coming later this week)
Everything hurts…but I finished! I really enjoyed the new course this year. It definitely got pretty warm during the last 3 miles of the race, with the last mile being directly in the sun, but overall it was okay. I think I really would have enjoyed it more if my hip cooperated and I didn’t have this darn blister on my foot! 22.4 miles done for the weekend!
Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon
Total Weekly Mileage: 27.4 miles
Summary: 5 runs, 1 spinning classes, 1 Boot Camp class, 1 Yoga DVD class, 1 Walk
Grade This Week – A
Well this was certainly a crazy week and a whirlwind weekend! I was happy with my decision to take it light on my workouts this week since I ran a lot of miles this weekend. Philadelphia was a lot of fun. It was humid (which seems to be the theme for this race every year) but it wasn’t unbearable like it has been previous years. I’ll be taking it easy over the next few days to recover from this weekend. My next two half marathons are in October so I’ll be jumping back into training for those shortly.
That’s it for this week – thanks for reading!
How was your week? Have you ever done multiple races in one weekend?
In Case You Missed It
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Congrats on logging all of those miles this weekend! Looking forward to reading your recaps!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Michelle!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Sounds like a great week- congrats on your races! I’m glad the hurricane didn’t affect your travel plans at all or your races. Sorry about that blister though!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! Yes, I was super happy that the weather held up this weekend 🙂
Cari says
What a great expo sign and CONGRATS on the amazing weekend of races. That 5.10K timing is part of why I hesitate to do both Turkey Trot
And I know i say it every single time you post them, but I so love those shoes
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cari! I’m not a fast runner so it was a little stressful trying to get back in time for the 10k but I’m happy it all worked out.
Cari says
Same here, speed wise
Fairytales and fitness says
Wow, a 5k and 10k back to back and than a half the next day….I can see why everything hurts! Congrats and rest up my friend.
kookyrunner says
LoL thanks! Still riding the pain train today but I’m not as sore, thank goodness!
Lesley says
Great job out there!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Lesley!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
You are so incredible for banging out multiple races in one weekend, especially a HUMID and gross one! I shall never cease to be amazed by your grit and determination! I, personally, am so over summer already. Haven’t we had enough? (wait, weren’t we all just saying that about winter???)
kookyrunner says
Awwe thanks so much Jennifer – that’s so sweet of you to say! Sometimes I thin I’m crazy, but I’ll stick with “grit and determination” LOL
I’m hoping that the humidity leaves soon since we’re already half way through the month!
Wendy says
I’m looking forward to your full recap but congrats!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy!
Coco says
It’s definitely wise to cut-back before race weekend – especially when you’re doing THREE races!! That is so amazing! There’s one local race where you can do a 5K and then a 10K but the logistics sound so complicated!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! At first I was like should I be working out more but then I thought it would be best to rest my legs as much as possible.
I was really worried about making the 10k in time because I’m not a fast runner, but thankfully it worked out!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Congrats on a great race weekend! I love multiple races in the same weekend- I try to do that as often as possible 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks Montana! I love when there are multiple races offered in a weekend because it means extra bling lol
Liz Dexter says
Wow – brilliant race weekend! We have one rock’n’roll event here in Liverpool and it is tempting to go for the multiple medals thing, as I’ve seen clubmates do ….
Have a good recovery week and hope nothing hurts tooooo badly!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Liz! It was a busy but fun race weekend. If you can do the multiple races in one weekend for the Rock n Roll race, you’ll get the remix medal which is pretty cool!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
wow look at you doing all 3 races! You total Rock and Roll 🙂 HI to your mom! Can’t wait to read the recap this week. Congrats girl
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Deborah!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I love all the photos! You look so happy & strong in all of them!
I can’t believe the humidity wasn’t as bad as in previous years because even up here, it sucked the life out of pretty much everyone all weekend long!
Congrats on running all the miles (and no, I’ve never done more than one race in a weekend, let alone in one day!).
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy! I was definitely doing a half real, half fake smile for those photos. I was deep in the pain cave, lol
Chocolaterunsjudy says
If it’s the end of the race & I’m smiling, most of the time I’m not smiling on the inside!
Considering what you did this year, I think you’re doing awesome.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Judy 🙂
Darlene says
Whoa…3 races!! How awesome. Congrats.
I really wanted to do Philly but friends were running montreal so that’s what I decided (and it’s closer.)
I am doing the 5k and the half. I did that last year for Vegas but I ran the 5k. I am considering just walking the 5k — for the medal.
kookyrunner says
That’s cool that you will be enjoying the Montreal races with your friends!
Sandra D Laflamme says
Wow! Way to go with all of those races!!! And I have to say those spandex that you wore for the half are awesome!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sandra!
Chaitali says
Great job with doing three races this weekend! I’m looking forward to hearing more about the weekend 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks Chaitali! It was a fun, but tiring weekend.
Kimberly Hatting says
You totally rocked Philly! Wish we could have had more time to chat than just those 10 minutes before the start line, but it was AWESOME to find you in the crowd 😉 So….when is our next #KimRace? 😉
kookyrunner says
I’m so happy I was able to see you before the race. I couldn’t let the whole race weekend go by without seeing you! Our next #KimRace should be in Boston next Spring – join me and Michelle at Run to Remember!
HoHo Runs says
Wow! You only had four minutes between those two races? And then you topped that off with a half marathon? You are a one tough cookie, Kooky. 😉 I love those pictures on the Rocky steps! Thanks for linking!
kookyrunner says
Yeah, if I was a faster runner I would have had more time, but I can’t knock out a 25 minute 5K lol. It was rough but I took a walk break after every mile for the 10k and that seemed to help a lot.
Marcia says
Congrats on a wholelottaracing! Can’t wait to hear more!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Marcia!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
Wow, what a week. I usually do a double race weekend just past weekend but I couldn’t pull it off this year. I ran the 10k rather then both races.
kookyrunner says
Sounds like you made the right decision to not do both races. I’m currently paying for my weekend of running with extreme soreness lol
Jenn says
Great job! I ran RnR Philly last year and I loved everything except for the humidity. The only thing I didn’t love was the uphill at the end, but it just made for another challenge.
I love running multiple races in a weekend! In fact, I’m looking at doing a challenge in October with a 5K on a Friday and a 12K or half on Saturday. Should be awesome! Congratulations and get some rest!
Jessie says
What an amazing accomplishment- you logged a lot of miles and sounds like you had a lot of fun! Congratulations!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! It was a lot of fun but I’m not sure I would do all those races in one weekend again lol
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Congratulations!! You earned all the medals, I love it! I didn’t realize they changed the Philly course – they seem to tweak it every year. I actually had to drive into the city on Sunday and saw all the runners walking around Center City and thought of you! Hopefully you’re resting up a bit before the next few races!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I’m not sure I would ever do all 3 races again but it was a nice challenge.
The new course was really good! It seems like we got to run more within the city.
Hannah says
Congrats on all those races! I bet everything does hurt – hope you have a good recovery week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Hannah!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Kudos to you for running all 3 Philly races, especially the 5k immediately followed by the 10k. That’s no easy feat. I’m intrigued to hear about how this year’s course was different. I briefly looked at the course map but the changes didn’t immediately jump out to me.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Kathryn! This year I feel like we were downtown a little bit longer than last year. It was nice because we got to see more of the city and there was more crowd support.
