Happy Friday! I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.
Before I get started, I wanted to say don’t forget to check out my charity fundraiser giveaway for Hope in Motion – Each $5 donation = 1 raffle ticket! I’ve sold 12 raffle tickets so far, so if you make a donation, there’s a strong chance you’ll win one of the raffle prizes!
Tomorrow I will run the AirBnB Brooklyn Half Marathon! I’m super excited because this race is so much fun, and as an added bonus, my mom is also running the race this year! At some point during the race I’ll need a little motivation from my favorite running quotes. Today, I’ll share those quotes with you!
This is one of my favorite quotes when it comes to running. I’m not a fast runner (no BQ in my future) so it’s easy for me to say that I run and that I’m not a “runner”. This is such BS. If you run, you’re a runner!
When Oprah says it, you know it’s true! The more involved I get in running, the more I get out of the sport, that’s for sure. More friends, more confidence in myself, more endurance, etc.
This is SO true! Sometimes I have the best runs when I REALLY don’t feel like running. Is that true for you?
This quote was especially true for me when I was training for my first marathon last year. I had a LOT of doubts about whether or not I could actually do it. It wasn’t until I completed my first 20 mile run that I started to believe in myself that I could complete the marathon. You definitely have to believe in yourself first and then everything else will follow.
This is something I take to heart when I run, especially if I’m having a bad run. It sucks in the moment, but at least I have the ability to run, and that I am very grateful.
What are your favorite running or fitness quotes?
Anna @ Piper's Run says
Love all these! Right now my favourite would be the “Sometimes the best runs come on days when you didn’t feel like running”. I feel like I’ve been having a lot of those lately!
kookyrunner says
Yup – I can totally relate! 🙂
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Great quotes! I love the one from Dean Karnazas Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must, but never give up. Or something to that effect.
kookyrunner says
That’s a good one! I’ve had to do that several times during a race. You just always have to move forward.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
All good ones here! I like the one: Never judge a run by the first mile. It’s so true!
kookyrunner says
Oh that’s a good one! The first mile is always garbage lol
Debbie says
I love the Penguin’s quote. I’ve shared it a few times to remind everybody that it doesn’t matter how fast they are, they’re still runners.
kookyrunner says
Exactly! I think it’s so important to always reiterate that fact.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
That last one is great & I often do think about people who would give their eye teeth to be able to run. It’s a gift; it truly is.
kookyrunner says
Definitely. It really helps to keep things in perspective!
The Accidental Marathoner says
Such great (and true) quotes! I, too, am slooooow, and it took a long time to call myself a runner. What fun you are doing a half with your mom! Good luck to both of you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s half!
Marcia says
These are great ones! Have a great race tomorrow! Can’t wait to hear about it.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Marcia!
Kimberly Hatting says
ALL of these are great and SO true! A funny quote I’ve seen is “While you were sleeping, I was running” (or something like that LOL Good luck tomorrow!!
kookyrunner says
LOL I love that quote.
Rachel says
These are great quotes. And you’re going to have a GREAT race!!! Swift feet, lady. I’m rooting for you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Rachel!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Great quotes! I love, if you run you are a runner! The only one that cares about your pace is you! 🙂
kookyrunner says
So true! Pace is really the least important thing about running, in my opinion.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
My favorite is your first quote. I hate when people say things like “I’m not a real runner.” And I’m like, “Well, did you run… on purpose? Then you are a runner!”
Have a great weekend!
kookyrunner says
Exactly! For some reason it took me years to understand that, lol.
Jenn says
These are all awesome! I’m not sure which one is the most motivating, but I do love the one about being a runner no matter how fast or far.
kookyrunner says
That’s on elf my favorites too.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great quotes!! Good luck in your race!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa!
Elle says
Love seeing these kinds of motivations posters and quotes.
kookyrunner says
ME too – Always a good reminder, especially during a hard workout!
Coco says
These are great. I agree that running is a good metaphor for life in so many ways.
kookyrunner says
So true. Life is definitely a marathon and not a sprint.
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I really like the Michael Jordan quote. You have to believe that can for it to happen for sure
kookyrunner says
That’s for sure! The most important thing is to believe in yourself!
Mary says
You have such a full race schedule this year! I definitely relate the most to the last quote, having so recently been physically unable to do my sport and unsure whether I’d ever be able to do it again. The same mental challenge exists with having the confidence to call yourself a skater when you are just starting, I remember going through that. .
kookyrunner says
I think that the mental aspect of training for any sport is so important!
Toni says
Hope you had a great race!!!! I love the Brooklyn half, it is a great race.
kookyrunner says
I had a rough race, but Brooklyn really is a great half marathon!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
These are all great quotes, especially the Bingham one. It doesn’t matter how fast you are, as long as you’re getting out there and running, you’re running. Running at a 15 minute pace doesn’t make you any less of a runner than somebody running at an 8 minute pace.
I hope your race went well, and I can’t wait to read your recap!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree! That was something I struggled with when I first started running but now it doesn’t really bother me.
Ivanna says
love all of these especially the first one because Im slow
kookyrunner says
Me too! It took me a while to stop focusing on pace and start enjoying the process of the run
Emily Roberts says
I don’t know about you but these kinds of motivational quotes are what I really needed for me to keep me running. So, thank you for sharing this. This is a really big help, especially there’s a certain weight I want to achieve.
kookyrunner says
Happy to hear that this post helped!
