Happy Wednesday! I have to say that August was a pretty good month. Marathon training went pretty well and I got in some great long runs. I also enjoyed my staycation last week. I feel like the end of August gave me positive momentum moving into September.
Anyone else super excited that it’s finally September?! I love this month because the end of September is the official start of Fall and this month kicks off my Fall racing season! I’m keeping my goals pretty light for the month as my goal race for the season is in October.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Complete my long runs for marathon training
Grade A+. In August I was able to complete a 10, 14, 16 and 18 mile long run. Granted the 10 mile long run was during my cutback week, but I was very happy with the other 3 long runs. Although I like long runs, they always give me a bit of anxiety so I’m always happy when they are done!
Continue with my PT exercises
Grade A+. I’ve been very diligent with my PT exercises. I also shared my PT Exercise routine on the blog. It only takes about 15 minutes to complete so I try to do it at least 5x a week.
Enjoy my Staycation
Grade A+. I absolutely loved my staycation. I was able to relax and sleep in a few mornings. I also ran a few errands, did some cleaning, picked out new recipes for weekly meal prep, wrote a few blogs and started reading a new book. Overall it was a great week off!
August was the first month that I knocked it out of the park with my goals. I’m giving myself a pat on the back 🙂
Here are my goals for September:
Train Smart
With the Chicago Marathon next month, I’m all about training smart in September. Next week is my last “hard” week of training and then it’s time for the taper. I’m going to be extra vigilant about listening to my body to make sure I am in tip-top shape when I get to the start line in Chicago. Training smart also means staying healthy. I see a lot of Emergen-C in my future, in addition to lots of water, fruits and vegetables!
Enjoy my two racecations
I didn’t take a vacation this year so my racecations are essentially like mini-vacations. I’ve done RnR Philly before, but RnR Montreal will be my first time visiting that city, and my first time in Canada. I’m looking forward to exploring the city!
RnR Philly will be a little tricky because I’m doing the Remix Challenge (5K & Half Marathon), but the half marathon will be part of a 20 mile long run. It’s going to be a little difficult to get in 7 miles before the race, but I’ll get it done!
If you’re staying a racecation, check out my packing tips!
Continue change in eating habits
Last month I met with a dietician and I’ve been working on making the changes (including getting more protein) that we discussed. It’s hard whenever you start something new so my goal for this month is to continue with her recommendations. I’m hoping this will result in a few pounds of weight loss and an increase in energy.
Do you set monthly goals? If so, do you have any goals for September?
I’m linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Jen from Pretty Little Grub and Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday.
I’m also linking up with Rachel from Running on Happy, Susie from Suzlyfe, Lora from Crazy Running Girl, and Debbie from Coach Debbie Runs for Coaches’ Corner!

you have been crushing it! Enjoy these last few weeks and stay healthy and positive. You so have this

Thanks so much – that’s the plan! 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
Your training has gone well! Hard to believe the taper is in sight! I need to iron out some September goals….thanks for the reminder LOL
kookyrunner says
I actually love the taper so I’m really looking forward to it!
Cyndi says
Sounds like your training has been going very well! I like your September goals. Staying healthy is an important part of the taper. I usually don’t set monthly goals, but I really like the idea and need to get on that!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cyndi! Yup, staying healthy is my main priority this month!
Debbie says
You are setting the good example for what I wrote about today! Great August and I’m sure you’ll have a great September.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Debbie! I’ve definitely tried to do as many “right” things as possible during this training cycle!
Coco says
Those are great goals – I’m sure you will enjoy your racecations!
kookyrunner says
I sure hope so! I’ve been looking forward to them all year, lol.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Way to go with your August goals! Have fun at your two halves!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Nicole!
Rachel says
These are great goals. Honestly, I never set monthly goals. I have way too much sh*t on my plate to keep up with that. Hahaha. I wish I could but it’s a miracle I dress myself half the time!
kookyrunner says
LOL, I see where you are coming from. I always say it’s amazing that I get to work every morning fully dressed
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Montreal is a lovely city. I did the inaugural RnR there a few years back. Starting on that bridge was COLD! I don’t know if they changed the course at all, but yes, there’s also a large hill at the very end.
We’re not that far away and I’m always thinking we should get there more often, but it’s always hard because of the dogs.
Great job on acing all your goals so far! And I’m sure it must be a real relief when that last long run is done.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the feedback about Montreal! I’ll have to check out the race course to see if we start on the bridge. I’m secretly hoping that the course has changed so that the big hill is nowhere in sight lol
I will be very happy once my 20 miler is complete!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
September and October are going to be awesome for you! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Susie!
Nicole says
Great goals! I can’t wait to see how running 7 before the half goes – I bet you’ll surprise yourself with your pace during the race. Sometimes that warm up helps if you’re fit enough for the high total mileage.
My goal for September is to keep my long run mileage around 10+ miles and get in at least one 12 miler before my October 7th half marathon!
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping that the race/20 mile training run goes well. I just have to remember to pace myself and not go out to fast during the race!
Good Luck with your September goals!
Jessica @ I Am Teacher Fit says
You did so great in August! You’ll rock September. I’m with you on staying healthy. I was feeling low last week, so I’m going to be popping vitamin C and watching my fruits and veggies for a while.
kookyrunner says
That’s a great idea about taking Vitamin C. I will probably start doing that once I hit the taper. I just want to make sure that I stay healthy!
Annmarie says
BOOM! Way to rock your August goals! That is awesome!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Annmarie!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
You are almost there. So excited for you.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Abby!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I too need to focus on staying healthy this month. I usually always get sick in the first couple of weeks of the new school year, but with Chicago right around the corner I cannot afford for that to happen.
kookyrunner says
I’ve been using Emergen-C and will use Airborne when I travel to Philly and Montreal this month.
