With August coming to a close last week, it’s time to think forward to September, and that means thinking about goals!
Do you set monthly goals? I love doing these posts every month because it helps to hold me accountable, especially with my yearly goals. Sometimes it’s easy to get a little lazy with all of the day-to-day responsibilities that we have, but I always try to make my health a top priority.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Start a training plan for Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia
Grade: A
I’m currently in week 6 of training and it’s been going well overall. I can’t believe that the races are next weekend!
Take 2-3 spinning classes per week
Grade: A
I’ve really been enjoying the Peloton bike and taking spinning classes at the gym. I hit my 2-3 classes target every week in August.
Enjoy my vacation time!
Grade A
My staycation last week was really good and I came back to work feeling rejuvenated. Of course that only lasted a few hours into the work day yesterday, lol. But it’s okay, it was still a nice break.
Here are my goals for September!
Do PT exercises daily
I have definitely been slacking with this over the past few months, but I need to make that a priority now. With my hip pain on my long runs, and some new knee pain, I know that I need to get back to basics. I’ve been setting aside 10-15 minutes every day to get in some basic PT exercises. I hope that it will pay off in the long run.
Plan another racecation
Last week I went through my vacation time and I have a good amount to use up before the end of the year – yikes! I saved my all the money from my work bonus back in April so I thought I’d treat myself with another racecation. Now I just need to pick a race!
Read a running related book
To be honest, I haven’t done as much reading as I would have liked this summer, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get more reading done in the Fall. I haven’t selected a book yet, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know!
Did you have a good August? If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for September?
I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice, Erika from MCM Mama Runs and Patty from My No-Guilt Life for Tuesdays on the Run.
I’m also linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama and Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday.
Last but not least, I’m linking up with Rachel from Running on Happy, Lora from Crazy Running Girl, Marc from Train With Marc and Debbie from Coach Debbie Runs for Coaches’ Corner!

I enjoyed Run the World – I love to run and travel so I found it very interesting.
I LOVE race-cations. Ii have two coming up – Montreal and then Paris. I am trying to plan another in Florida but haven’t picked a race yet.
Good luck with Philly!!

You have some amazing racecations coming up!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job on your goals! You were killing it with your workouts!
I am going to do more PT work on my off days…I just feel like I’m not doing enough for my feet so I’m hoping to make it a happen.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I think the PT work is so key to keeping our bodies happy and somewhat healthy lol

Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
you had a fantastic few weeks of training. I see a great race coming up in Philly. I vote for Cherry Blossom 10m in April for you 🙂
kookyrunner says
I almost forgot about Cherry Blossom. You’ll have to remind me when the lottery pops up so I can enter 🙂
Laurie says
I liked Chi Running. It helped me run injury-free (until last year). Also enjoyed Katherine Switzer’s book. she is an amazing woman.
Way to accomplish (most of) those goals!
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the book recommendations!
Cari says
Oh love that list of races worth traveling for
I love the Runners’ Bookshelf for recommendations but I second Darlene on Run the World. Also loved Liz Robbins’ A Race Like No Other on the NYC Marathon. Both of Bart Yasso’s are good
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the book recommendations. I read Race Like No Other before running the NYC Marathon and loved it!

Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Great job in August! September is going to be even better. I hope I get to see you in Philly!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Nicole! I hope I get to see you in Philly too!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Fantastic month for you! Can’t wait to see what you do in Philly!
I love race-cations and so wanted to get one more in this year, but family commitments are creeping in fast! Looking forward to hearing where you decide to head to next.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I’m already looking forward to the racecation in Boston next year 🙂
De BOLTON says
Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up. Doing PT will be helpful this month! Can’t believe the Rock n Roll is here already! September came so fast I have some things planned but haven’t set my goals yet, I will soon. Wishing you success on your races.
kookyrunner says
That’s so true! Sometimes getting back to basics is definitely what’s needed.
Marcia says
Can’t wait to see where you end up on your next racecation! They’re so much fun to plan. September will be all about ramping up miles for the Philly Marathon. The heat and torrential rain have made long runs nearly impossible this summer.
kookyrunner says
We have a break in the heat and humidity this weekend so I hope you do as well in Chicago!
Kimberly Hatting says
I used to always set monthly goals/challenges, and they would vary each month…but I somehow got away from that in recent months. Ironically, I think my training has been better and more focused this summer because I have been pretty disciplined with weekly HIIT and (mostly) weekly speed training. September will be all about cramming in a few final LONG runs in prep for my Oct. 13th marathon ((gulp)).
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping to get into doing weekly HIIT as well. It sucks and it’s hard but it’s such a good workout.
Farrah says
I’m glad all your goals for August went by so well! :]! Best of luck to you for September!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Farrah!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Vacations (or stayvacations) are nice until it’s time to go back to work! I hope the PT exercises help with your hip and knee. Great job with your goals in August!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Lisa!
Annmarie says
Woot! Way to rock your August goals!!! I set goals but they usually aren’t monthly – I should probably start though to help keep the eyes on the prize 😉 I’d love to read more running related books too – I’ve been reading but they’re all random fiction books :p
kookyrunner says
Thanks friend! I am hoping that reading some running books will give me some extra encouragement going into Fall racing season!
Sandra D Laflamme says
Way to go with your goals! I am so jealous that you have a Peleton Bike. It is on my wishlist for sure. Do you love it?
kookyrunner says
I really love the Peloton bike – it was such a great investment!
Jenn says
Oh, I love a good racecation! Those are my favorite! Where do you think you will head?
August went very well, I think. It’s hard because it’s so hot and we have back to school and all that, but I got through it and kept my miles and training up.
kookyrunner says
I’m not quite sure yet where I’ll go but I will probably look up some races this weekend.
Denise @ runheartfit says
Have you read Deena Kastor’s “Let Your Mind Run” ? I found it very inspiring. So much so that I registered for a full marathon!
When do want to go on your runcation? There’s the Monutans 2 Beach here in California in May. It all downhill.
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard of that book and it’s on my list to purchase. I’ve heard such great things about it!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Which races and destinations are on your short list for a racecation? I can’t wait to hear where you ultimately decide to go!
kookyrunner says
Well so far I only have RnR San Antonio on my short list but I’m still looking! I’ll probably do more research on it this weekend.
Wendy says
I really think you should plan a racecation to Wisconsin! LOL! Seriously, I’m going to tentatively plan on Washington DC for Cherry Blossom. Assuming that I get in the lottery!
kookyrunner says
I’ll need to plan a racecation for when I know you’ll be there in Wisconsin 🙂
Esther says
I love your monthly goals list! It has helped to encourage me with my own goals!
I need to get back to my PT exercises! I have been slacking and my knee and hip are grumpy because of it.
You are going to rock your half! I can’t wait to hear all about it. My sister is running it as her first half! I so wish I could be there to cheer y’all on!
There are SO many good choices for racecations! I guess depends on the time of year and the weather!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Esther. Same thing for me with the PT. My knee and hips haven’t been happy and it’s my own fault so that’s why I’m re-committing myself to PT!
