Happy Friday! It’s already time to set goals for another month. I feel like I just set goals for August yesterday, lol.
Since it’s the start of a new month it’s time to list my monthly goals for September.I love setting monthly goals to keep myself accountable throughout the year.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Run 100 miles
Grade: A+
Nailed it! I ran 135 miles in August. Not too bad for running in the Summer heat and humidity.
Summer Cleaning
Grade:A+
During my staycation I did a bunch of cleaning and organizing. I was able to donate stuff to Goodwill and post some items on eBay. Plus, I have more free space now which is great!
Focus more on recovery
Grade: B
I’ve been better about this, particularly after my runs, but there’s still room for improvement.
Here are my goals for September!
Run a strong half marathon
This weekend I’m using the Surftown Half Marathon as a training run. I haven’t run a race since June so I’m looking forward being back in the race scene – there’s just something about running with a bunch of people that always feels great! It will also be great to use this race as a test run for my fueling, etc. I’m going to basically do what I’ve been doing during my long runs.
Practice more self care
Since September is my last full month of marathon training, I want to make sure I really prioritize self care. For me this means getting in enough stretching, foam rolling and sleep. I want to make sure that I stretch after every run and workout. I’m going to continue to use Nuun Rest to help me with my recovery and sleep. In addition, I’m going to have weekly ART appointments and I’m hoping to schedule a massage at some point as well.
Search for a Fall half marathon
Since I’m not doing the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon in October (it was a week after Chicago), I don’t have any Fall marathons scheduled. I would still love to check another state off my 25 States Half Marathon Challenge so this month I will look to see if there are any half marathons I can do in late October or November/December. I might as well utilize all my marathon training if I can!
That’s it for this month – wish me luck!
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for September?
I’m linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.

100 miles for me too.
And using Surftown as training. Last half was in May.
Canβt wait to meet you.
Still to do more cleaning out closets for sure.
Have you done NY yet?
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome! I did NYCM as my first marathon a few years ago – it was amazing.
I will text you about meeting up on Sunday π

I haven’t personally ran it but some running friends did the half-marathon on Mackinac Island (Michigan) and say it’s wonderful! Beautiful place and great run. I’m anxious to run it myself! Definitely one to checkout
kookyrunner says
I still need to do a race in Michigan so I’ll keep that one in mind – thanks!
Marcia says
You did great on your August goals! I slacked on stretching in August and I can feel it. Have a great race this weekend!
kookyrunner says
My lack of stretching always catches up with me. When will I learn?? lol
Jenn says
You have absolutely got this!
My goals include hitting my 1019 miles, getting back to the half marathon, and holding a sloth. Fingers crossed!
kookyrunner says
I have no doubt that you will hit all of your goals. Make sure you take photos with the sloth!

As usual, we be #twinning π My main goal for September is finish all these long runs and really focus on self care as well. I am doing the IMT Des Moines half marathon the weekend before my marathon…definitely NOT racing it, per se, but I do hope to run it strong and steady. Your training has been going great, Kim!! Keep it up!
kookyrunner says
I am in no way surprised that you’re running a half the weekend before your marathon, lol.
Wendy says
You can come back to Chicago and run the Schaumburg Turkey Trot Half Marathon, which happens to be 6 weeks after Chicago. It’s flat and it’s perfect for a post-marathon half. I did really well at it after my Chicago PR! But I totally understand if you don’t want to do it… :p
kookyrunner says
If I could get a cheap flight I’d be all over that race. You know how much I love Chicago π
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Great job with your August goals! I so need to do some de-cluttering, especially my closets.
And big yes to self-care! That’s one of my primary goals for September. I’ve been trying to find a half for post-Chicago as well, but so far nothing’s jumping out at me.
See you soon!
kookyrunner says
De-cluttering always makes me feel good. It’s nice to have open space to see exactly what I have!
Same here – nothing is jumping out for me for a post-Chicago half. I’ll do some more looking this weekend.

Congrats on reaching 100 miles for the month. I have been slacking, the last two months I haven’t and I usually do. Time to step it up for September. Marathon training is in full swing.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I have no doubt you’ll hit your mileage goal as you embark on marathon training. Those miles add up fast!
Coco says
Congrats on your August miles! That’s awesome. And way to go on that cleaning/cleaing out. I really need to do that, but when the weekend comes around, I’d rather not. π
Have you considere the Richmond Half November 16? It’s really popular with my MRTT group.
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard such great things about the Richmond race! I’ve already done a race in Virginia so I was trying to find a new state for a Fall half marathon.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I don’t how I missed this post earlier. I am still figuring out my fall schedule. I want to do a few 10K’s and then we have a fun 15K here in December. Those half races are going to be a breeze for you this fall-you are crushing it. Every time I try to organize, it gets right back to where it was!
kookyrunner says
I always love the photos from your holiday 15K. It looks like such a fun race!
Liz Dexter says
Good work and good plans. Happy sleeping, the most important part of this bit of the marathon cycle!
kookyrunner says
That’s so true. Great to be well rested.
Cari says
That cheerleading pizza <3
You've done Florida, right? The other FLL Half is in November if you haven't
kookyrunner says
The cheerleading pizza gets me every time LOL
I haven’t run in Florida yet but I want to make that one of my states. I’ll check out that half – thanks!
Cari says
Course (https://www.131fortlauderdale.com/) is I think similar to one I do in winter. If November doesn’t work, the A1A moved to January. I’m doing it again next year. Medal is amazing
kookyrunner says
Thanks!
Farrah says
I have so, so much cleaning/decluttering/organizing I need to do! ._. I’m glad you were able to do that! I’m hoping to do that over the next two months!
Good luck to you on your goals for this month! I hope they’re going well!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Farrah!
