Happy Friday. August was another busy month (and it went by fast!) but I was able to complete all of my goals. Let’s see what September will bring!
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Complete the OTF #BackAtITChallenge
Grade:A
I finished the #BackAtItChallenge a little over a week ago. This was a great way to ease back into OTF after being out of the studio for a few months. I don’t know how many people at my studio participated in it, but I’m always down for a challenge, especially a free one! At some point this month I’ll redeem my points for prizes.
Run 100 miles
Grade:A
I haven’t run 100 miles in a month since last September – I attribute that to marathon training. Obviously I have nothing to train for right now so I wasn’t sure how hard it would be to hit this goal but it actually wasn’t that bad. Instead of long runs, I focused more on shorter runs (2-4 miles). It took a little bit of planning but it went much smoother than I originally planned.
Do yoga classes 2x a week
Grade:A
I actually ended up doing yoga an average of 3x a week which even surprised me! I was still working on finishing up all of the Artist series classes so that gave me incentive to do a yoga class every other day or every two days. Moving forward, I would still like to do yoga at least 2x a week but will focus on shorter classes. The 30-45 minutes classes can feel a little too long sometimes, but I think 15-20 minutes would be much better for me, especially since I’m still a beginner and still learning.
Here are my goals for September!
Complete the Peloton Power Zones program
I started the Power Zones program this week and so far, so good! I know it’s only week one and it will get harder but so far it’s been good. It will definitely take me a little bit of time to adjust to cycling in certain zones but I’m up to the challenge!
Do meditation classes 3-5x a week
I’ve been struggling a little bit over the past few weeks with negative thoughts. I try to be a ‘glass half full’ person but lately I’ve been more anxious and feeling very worried about the state of the world. I’m glad that I can recognize this shift and I’m trying to be more proactive about making it better. I love the sleep meditations but I think that doing some 5 minute meditations during workdays will be helpful as well. The Peloton app has a bunch of different types of meditation classes – gratitude, empathy, patience, kindness, breathing, relaxing, etc – so I can pick one based on my mood that day.
Try one new recipe each week
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been in a food rut for the past several weeks. I really need some to try some new recipes to mix things up a bit. I’m off to a good start as I tried an orange chicken recipe earlier this week that was pretty tasty! I’m looking forward to trying more new recipes this month.
That’s it for this month – wish me luck!
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for September?
I’m linking up for Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales and Fitness.

Great job with your running and yoga! I think I’ve done yoga once all summer. Oh well. I also need to try some new recipes. Sometimes its just easier to make things I’m familiar with.
kookyrunner says
Yup, I totally get that. A few months ago I just wanted to make everything as simple as possible so I just focused on eating a lot of the same meals but now I’m craving a little more variety.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I can so relate to that yoga meme LOL!
Congrats on a great August!
I’m glad to see that you’re going to try to expand your meditation practice.
kookyrunner says
LoL, right? I swear it seems like I will never master yoga but that’s okay.
Laurie says
Ha! I had to laugh at your yoga meme. That’s exactly how I feel at every yoga class.
You are doing awesome with your fitness, Kim. Good for you!!!
Kudos also for trying the meditation classes and new recipes. I think meditation classes could help me too. I used to do free 5 – 10 minute meditations from an app on my phone but I somehow got out of the habit. I think I should look up that app again. Thanks for the rminder.
kookyrunner says
LoL! I don’t think I’ll ever master yoga, but that’s okay.
That’s what I’ve been doing – quick 5-10 minute meditation classes and they seem to help.
Deborah Brooks says
My goal for this month is to keep up yoga when my challenge is over and continue with the power zones. I am not sure if I am doing them correctly!
kookyrunner says
Yeah I don’t dislike the PZ training, but I’m not a huge fan either. I hope that I’ll end up liking more of the classes eventually.
Marcia says
Nailing a 100 mile month is amazing, especially with no races on the horizon! Great month for you! I love your goal of adding some new foods to the rotation. Things are stale here as well.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia! I’m going to look for some new recipes this weekend and try them throughout the rest of the month.
Kimberly Hatting says
You, my #KimFriend, knock it outta the park with your challenges. Well done (#fistbump) 🙂 Those meditation classes sound great…all key things to focus on in helping to keep the glass half full. I need to commit to doing more yoga… I have to be careful with the standing poses right now, but that’s not a valid excuse LOL
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much #kimtwin! Yup – trying to figure out how to keep the glass half full as stuff gets more and more challenging.
Wendy says
You did great with your goals this month! 100 miles for the win! I need to up my yoga–it shouldn’t be hard since I’ve been doing zero. I lay in bed at night, trying to do reclined cobbler pose and that right hip just doesn’t want to cooperate.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy! My right hip is also my ‘tighter’ hip. It really shows me how unbalanced my body is!
fairytales and fitness says
Oooh, new recipes sound fun! I get into a food rut too. I’ve been good at making new desserts though…..which is NOT helpful…lol
Do you do your yoga classes online or in the studio? Our local studio has been offering some classes online that I’ve been saying I want to do, but have not! -M
kookyrunner says
I do the yoga classes at home – the app has so many classes to choose from which is nice because I need variety!
Liz Dexter says
Good work with the running and yoga and it’s great to know the Peleton app has meditations too, I’m going to have to just get on and get it downloaded! I did 100 miles in August again (well, it was 99.6 in July) and now I feel that’s a goal for each month, although I’m not forcing it. Have a good September!
kookyrunner says
Congrats on hitting 100 miles in August!
Darlene says
awesome job with your goals. You rocked them.
Gl with September. You got it.
I don’t set goals.
Just trying to stay sane. Lol.
I mean active.
84 Running miles is a loose goal since I’d like to hit 1000 for the year. Walking once a day. Hiking twice a week. Not eating ice cream everyday.
kookyrunner says
I like your running goal of 1,000 miles for the year – I have no doubt that you’ll achieve it.
San says
I love that all your goals are exercise related 🙂
I am also trying one new recipe per week… Jon and I get into ruts where we make the same things over and over (well, because we like them), but I know that adding just one new recipe in the mix keeps things interesting!
kookyrunner says
It’s so easy to get into a rut, especially when we’re all so busy!
