Disclaimer: Let’s get the legal stuff out of the way first. I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review but all opinions below are my own and I was not compensated for this post.
I’m a huge fan of smoothies so I was happy to get this book to review from Blogging for Books. The Blender Girl Smoothies, written by Tess Masters, is full of yummy and healthy smoothies that adults and children can enjoy!
I’ll be the first to admit that I can fall into a routine when it comes to food. I tend to take the easiest route and that means eating the same foods and also making the same smoothies. Typically my go to smoothie involves spinach + a fruit + a scoop of protein powder. Sure, it does the job, and tastes good, but it can get a little…boring.
The great thing about this book is that all 100 recipes are gluten-free, vegan and paleo-friendly, so they will work for people with certain food allergies.
The book starts off with ‘Smoothie Secrets’ which discusses different things you can do to ensure you make the best smoothie ever. This section had really good tips, some that were new to me, so it was great to learn some new things 🙂
After the first section, the recipes are broken up into four categories – light and fruity, clean and green, an exotic ride and dessert. Here are some of my favorites from each section.
Light and Fruity
Pineapple Kiwi Cavalcade (orange juice, kiwis, basil, pineapple, kale)
Plum Potion (coconut water or water, plums, ginger raspberries, chia seeds
Fruity Fun (coconut water or water, apple, pineapple, orange, dandelion greens)
Clean and Green
Creamy Dreamy (banana, baby spinach, vanilla extract, mango, peaches, chia seeds)
Pineapple Protector (pineapple, orange juice, bok choy, ground turmeric, wheatgrass powder)
Apple Alkalaid (apple, baby spinach, lemon, cucumber, chia seeds, ginger)
An Exotic Ride
Pear it with Blue (pears, orange juice/water, blueberries, cardamom)
Papaya Pleasure (almond milk, papayas, lemon juice, ginger, ground cinnamon, mango)
Aloe Accelerator (orange juice, coconut water/water, aloe vera juice, peaches, pineapple, pitted dates, strawberries)
Dessert
Apple Pie in a Glass (almond milk, unsweetened apple sauce, cashews, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, dates)
Strawberry Shortcake (cashews, water, vanilla extract, dates, maple syrup)
Tastes-Like-Ice-Cream Kale (kale, cashews, bananas, dates)
These are just some of the recipes, there are so many more to get through that I haven’t tried yet! After the recipes, the author gives a list of things you should always keep in your pantry to make smoothie. I actually had most of these items which was great. At least I know I’m on the right track!
