Happy Thursday! I don’t usually post blogs on Thursdays, but today I am linking up in Thinking Out Loud, hosted by Amanda from Running With Spoons. This is my first time participating in this link up but I’m looking forward to sharing some random thoughts with everyone!
New York City Marathon
So…the NYC Marathon, my FIRST marathon, is less than 2 months away. I quite honestly don’t know how this happened and I’m not sure I was emotionally prepared for it, lol. I’ve been going through all the motions of training and trying to mentally prepare for the long runs so I feel like this just snuck up on me. I think I am finally starting to understand what people meant when they said “The marathon is the easy part, it’s the training that’s hard”. This is SO true! ust think – you probably run anywhere from 300-500 miles during a training cycle just to run 26.2 miles.
‘Tis the Season
Okay, so Fall doesn’t officially start until September 22, but I’m SO here for it! I HATE the summer. I repeat, I absolutely, 100% HATE the summer and I do a happy dance every where when August is over. I’m the person that you’ll see decked out in leather boots and a jacket, holding a pumpkin spice latte in one hand and a pumpkin in the other hand.
Seriously, what is there not to like about Fall? The weather is perfect and you can go out for a run and not feel like a hot, sweaty, salty mess. I also love all the Fall clothes and accessories, it’s just a great season. Bye Bye summer!!
Fall Races
I am so excited for the Fall racing season! Starting next weekend I have a race (or races) every weekend for 5 weekends in a row. I don’t race too much in the summer (just a few virtual runs here and there), so I really load up on the races in the Fall. I’ll be in Philadelphia next weekend for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philly races, and then I have some local races in NY and CT for the next few weeks.
Because I knew I would need some motivation for my upcoming long runs this month and in October, I decided to include some races, including 4 half marathons, in those long training runs (16-20 miles). This seemed like a good idea a few months ago, but I’m curious to see how it actually plays out these next upcoming weeks!
What’s on your mind this week?

100% the training is harder than the marathon. Especially New York. You’ll be having so much fun you’ll barely notice you’re running, I swear!
kookyrunner says
I’m looking forward to the forgetting that I’m running part of the NYC Marathon lol
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl says
I love love LOVE fall! And you are totally going to rock NYC Marathon and love it! It’s such a great race.
kookyrunner says
I’m very excited and looking forward to the race!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
Yes, the NYC Marathon itself will be your victory lap.
Your out there doing all the hard work now without any crowds cheering you on.
That is what makes the marathon such a beautiful and crazy beast.
kookyrunner says
That’s what I’m hoping! 🙂

Also waiting desperately for fall, I was just looking into some more races I can use to motivate my long runs! I will be at philly and the bronx! I did Staten Island last year, it was cool, but not my favorite.
kookyrunner says
Looking forward to hopefully seeing you at Philly and the Bronx!
Truth be told, I’m not really keen on doing Staten Island because its a real pain in the ass for me to get there from CT but I want to complete the 5-borough challenge.

Kim, you will do great at your marathon!! training is HARD but that’s the whole point. The day itself is going to unveil everything you’ve been working towards! I can already see you in my head running through the boroughs with that amazing smile of yours on your face!!
I do love fall, I don’t hate summer, but Autumn is my fave 🙂 September starts with my birthday and generally it’s always decent temps (read: bearable) in September AND bonus I get to break out my boots from the wardrobe again 🙂
I’ll see you at RnR Brooklyn, right???
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the vote of confidence Renee! Like you said, the training is hard but that’s the whole point, right?!
I love being able to wear my boots again once the temperatures get cooler, that’s probably one of my favorite things! I’m not doing RnR Brooklyn this year because I’m doing the Staten Island Half (which is the next day).

So SO excited for you running NYCM. I think that’s a great first marathon. Truly the marathon is a celebration of all the months of hard work you’ve done. I wish I could be there to cheer you on.

I’m excited that it’s my first marathon too 🙂 I know its going to be an unforgettable experience!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I love summer but I hate marathon training in the summer. But somehow, pushing through those tough miles will definitely prepare you for NYCM!
kookyrunner says
That’s what I’m hoping for Wendy!
