Happy Friday! Has this month seem super long to anyone? Maybe it’s because this is the FIFTH Friday of the month! Today Iām participating in the Friday Five link up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!.
Since today’s topic is “Free Friday”, I thought I would discuss the top 5 ways I stay hydrated, especially in the summer. Like the rest of the country, Connecticut has been in “heat wave” status for the past 2 weeks – it’s been brutal and I’m totally over it. In fact, earlier this week I declared my boycott against summer. It’s important to stay hydrated for a number of reasons, but especially in the summer when heat and humidity take over. Over the past 2 years I have found some great ways to enusre I stay hydrated.
1. Water
Well this one is pretty obvious (duh)! Water is the best way to stay hydrated. You might be tempted to grab a class of juice or a soda, but try to stay away from those drinks as much as possible.
2. Nuunsicle (Nuun Popsicle)
I’ve been using Nuun for years but this year I started to make nuunsicles! I saw the idea on Instagram a few weeks ago and decided to try it. They are super easy to make!
-Choose your favorite flavor of Nuun and mix with water
-Slice fruit
-Add sliced fruit and liquid (Nuun + water) into a popsicle mold. I use this one from Amazon:
-Place popsicle mold in freezer for a few hours and enjoy!
Earlier this week I enjoyed a strawberry lemondae nuunsicle with fresh strawberries š
3. Nuun
I pretty much use Nuun daily in the summer. I love Nuun because it’s not as sweet as other sports drinks, uses clean ingredients, provides electrolytes, is low calorie and comes in different flavors. I also keep a few tubes in my desk at work and also in my gym bag.
4. Fruits and Vegetables
There are quite a few fruits and vegetables with high water content. Cherries, grapes, apples, pears, blueberries, plums, watermelon, apricots, grapefruit, strawberries, peaches, cantaloupe, cranberries, pineapples, raspberries and oranges all have 80% or more water per volume. Cucumbers, lettuce, zucchini, celery, radishes, tomatoes, green cabbage, eggplant, cauliflower, red cabbage, peppers, spinach, carrots, broccoli, white potatoes and green peas all have 79% or more water per volume. You can read more about this topic here, but make sure you eat those fruits and vegetables!
5. Sparkling/Seltzer Water
I know that drinking plain water can get a little boring. That’s why I love sparkling or seltzer water. My favorite brands inclue Polar and La Croix. With flavors like passionfruit, coconut, mango, cucumber melon and granny smith apple – how can you resist! Best of all these drinking have 0 calories and 0 grams of sugar!
How do you stay hydrated (especially in the summer)?

I just keep my tumbler with me wherever I go! It’s always helpful when there’s a straw š I tend to drink more!

I love the idea of the Nuun popsicles. I’ve heard of Nuun but it wasn’t until late last year that I started drinking it more. I mean, a lot more, and went crazy buying a whole bunch of Kona Cola. Now, I drink it everyday. However, I am not impressed with the new formula so I’ve been stocking up on the original one through Amazon.

When I saw the idea on Instagram I was like “Why didn’t I think of that!” LOL. It’s a different and fun way to enjoy getting electrolytes into your system! I’m okay with the new formula but you can definitely tell there is a difference for sure.

I have just been addicted to Nuun Cherry Limeade this summer.

I stocked up on some of the old formula cherry limeade so I’ll be drinking that soon!
