Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Do you set weekly, monthly or yearly goals? You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
I set both monthly and yearly goals. I love to set goals because they help to keep my accountable and give me certain things to strive for throughout the year.
Motivation drives me, and is the main reason why I set goals. As soon as I write down a goal on paper, or share on my blog, motivation automatically sets in and I think of what I need to do in order to achieve that goal. When I trained for my first marathon, I’m convinced that being motivated to reach that finish line was one of the things that kept me going when I had a bad workout or run.
I also love that goals are personal. Your goal is just that, YOUR GOAL! There’s no need to compare yourself to others.
You also can’t beat the sense of accomplishment when completing a goal. I always feel like such a badass when I complete a goal, especially one that I feel may have been ambitious or a little out of my reach.
Tell me: Do you set weekly, monthly or yearly goals?

Topic for next week – What is your favorite time of the year to run? Feel free to write about this or any running related topic. We hope you’ll link up with us!
That’s a good point about the sense of accomplishment. It’s so satisfying to reach a challenging goal!
I set quarterly and annual goals. I review them every quarter with my husband to keep me accountable. I set fitness goals as well as goals for other areas, like finance, nutrition, socialising, etc…
I also made a vision of how I see myself at 60, with all the details. I review it quarterly to see if I am on track with that vision.
Totally! I always have to-do list as well so I’m all about ticking off boxes to see progress. I like the idea of quarterly goals – I don’t set those normally but I think i might in the future.
I set some goals, because like you (#twinning LOL) the sense of accomplishment is pretty empowering. I’m more of a “challenge” gal, though, in terms of my fitness or running. I prefer to try new things for a month at a time, for example (doing XX number of daily push-ups, etc.), and then moving on to something different the next month. I’ve never set mileage goals. For me, I sense I’d become too obsessed with the “number” and would possibly ignore injuries just to achieve them. That’s me, though. I know mileage goals work well for others.
It’s so empowering, right?! I love when you do different challenges because it gives me new ideas on how I can get stronger/torture myself lol.
You know I’m a big goal setter! I so agree with you that goals should be personal – they are your “why” and no one else’s!
Exactly!
I love ticking off things from a to do list, and goals can be ticked off that way too! I don’t often set yearly goals, though — and I really should. Not so much for running, but for other things in life.
I think goals, besides keeping us focused, actually keep us more positive, too.
It seems like I always have a To-Do list and I also love ticking off items – it makes me feel like I accomplished something for the day, lol.
Having goals last year definitely made 2020 a little more bearable.
I do have yearly goals – and they are a guide to what I need to do each day, week or month.
Goals keep us on track and as you said they are personal so mine should be different than yours.
And there’s no failure if you don’t meet them as long as you tried.
I feel the same way about my yearly goals – I feel like my monthly goals help me to ultimately achieve my yearly goals.
I didn’t get around to writing for this week, but its a great topic! I have broader goals like the 50 state marathon and 7 continent goals, but 2020 led me to be a little hesitant to set any goals for how many marathons I could do this year…its still so up in the air! But generally I like to strength train at least 2, maybe 3 times a week, and like to stay around 40 miles of running. But of course things change!
I love your 50 state marathon and 7 continent goals – you have visited such cool places already!
It sure does feel amazing to set a goal and accomplish it! I set mini daily and weekly goals to keep me productive. I also love the Peloton monthly challenges that push me to reach a new goal.
The Peloton monthly challenges definitely help to keep me accountable too
I don’t always write down my goals but I plan my week and set goals in my head regularly. I got out of the habit of writing out my goals with COVID but hope to set some bigger goals this year.
I have no doubt that you’ll hit those bigger goals this year!
I’ve had goals but this year is the first time I’ve actually written them down. I guess that was a goal to write down my goals. 🙂
I find that when I write down my goals, it’s harder for me to chicken out and not do them, lol.
This is a great question. I used to set monthly goals, but ever since I started working remote from home, I find myself even busier. to be honest, I am having a hard time with remote work, and find that weekly goals are working best for me to stay focus.
I also find myself to be busier since working from home and definitely work longer hours.
