Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Favorite race medals. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
If you know me, you know I’m all about the race bling! It was hard for me to pick just one medal, so I decided to share my favorite 4 race medals – 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon.
2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago 5K
It was unbearably hot and humid for this race, but I absolutely loved the race route and I have always thought the medal was so cool. It’s a fun take on the iconic Chicago Theater.
2017 Hope in Motion 10K
This is a local race that I’ve done for many years – first I participated in the walk, then the 5K, and then the 10K. It’s a great race that benefits the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital. This was the first year that they provided medals for the 10K race.
2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon
While this isn’t my prettiest or flashiest half marathon race medal, it’s my favorite because it was the first distance race I ran in my one of my favorite cities in the world – Chicago! This race weekend was when I fell in love with the city and I made it a point to visit at least once a year (until Covid).
2016 TCS New York City Marathon
This was a no-brainer – I had to pick the race medal from my first marathon. I remember being so ecstatic when I crossed the finish line and it proved to me that I could really do hard things. After the race, I thought that would be my only marathon, but I ended up doing 3 more.
What is your favorite race medal?

Topic for next week – It’s National Mental Health Awareness Week. How does running help with your mental health?

It’s really tough to pick a favorite! Some medals are glitzy, some are from a great race , some represent a hard-earned PR, and some are just fabulous keepsakes of our journey as runners. You’ve got some nice ones, #KimTwin 🙂

That’s the beauty of medals – there are so many different types, similar to race shirts!

My favorite race medal is my Big Sur Marathon medallion. Big Sur was my bucket list marathon and I was injured leading up to it. Just crossing the finish line was a victory. Plus, my hubs and I honeymooned there years ago, so being able to return was just wonderful!!

The Big Sure Marathon medallion is so cool! I can see why that one is your favorite 🙂

So many great medals with more importantly great memories! It’s always so much fun to look back & be proud of our accomplishments.
kookyrunner says
Yes! The memories are really what stands out more so than the medals.

Fabulous memories, Kim!
Can you believe it, I’ve never been to Chicago! I really need to go one day.
I usually throw my medals away after a while, but I think I will hang on to the Two Oceans Ultra one for a bit longer, ha!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Catrina! Yes – you must visit Chicago if you get the chance, it’s such a great city.

All my medals have a special place in my heart. Good or bad they were all accomplishments.
My favorites would be the Freihofer 5k one from 2012 – I paid for it in advance before knowing that I would be out of running for 5 mos prior to the race. And of course my first and only marathon – NYC 2019.
kookyrunner says
Totally agree. The 2017 Chicago Marathon was horrible for me but I still love the medal because it’s an accomplishment.
Jenny says
I LOVE that medal from the Chicago 5k- so cool. This is a fun topic- there’s a half marathon/marathon down here where they make the medals really spectacular (like with mermaids and jellyfish), and I have a couple of those. I like when a race has a medal that’s unique to the area.
kookyrunner says
Ohh that medal sounds really cool, and I love that they make the medals locally.

Medals > T-shirts! I love my race medals. You got some nice ones there, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Same! I have way too many shirts but can never get enough medals, lol.
Deborah Brooks says
It is hard to pick a favorite but so much fun to look back on them all!
kookyrunner says
So hard to pick just one!
Shathiso says
It’s so hard to pick a favourite! And I’ve found that sometimes the medal may not be the prettiest but it becomes a favourite because of what it represents – either pushing through a tough race or having the best time on the course. But I do love it when organisers are creative in designing the medal – like your flower medal for the Hope in Motion – that’s a beauty!
kookyrunner says
Exactly! Each medal represents struggles, fun times, etc.
Zenaida Arroyo says
You got some cool medals there! Cool that two of them are from a Chicago race. I love how you picked one for various race distances.
kookyrunner says
I had to pick the race distances since I couldn’t pick just one medal, lol.
