Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: What are your favorite recovery tools?. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
Recovery. A simple thing that many runners don’t do, lol. We know it’s good for us, but how often do we skip a rest day or a stretch before a run? Thankfully their are a ton of recovery tools that make it easy for us to give our bodies a little TLC.
Here are a few of my favorite recovery items.
Okay, so technically I purchased this for my mom as a Christmas gift a few years ago, but I use it a lot too, lol. I very rarely get massages from a professional, so I feel like this device is the next best thing. I especially like to use it on my calf muscles and near my IT band. It doesn’t always feel good while I’m using it, but I always feel better once it’s done!
Foam Roller
This is probably my least favorite recovery tool, but I still use it because I know it’s good for me, especially for a cranky IT band.
Not exactly a recovery item, but I love Dr Teal’s pure epsom salt. I love the relax & relief and the pre & post workout products. My body, especially my feet and legs, always feel a lot better after an epsom salt bath. Their foaming bath products are also awesome!
Rest
Sometimes we don’t need fancy products – we just need to sit down and REST! How often do we do this? I don’t know about you, but the only time I fully rest is probably when I am sleeping. Even when I am sitting down, I’m doing something – working on my blog, writing down to-do lists, etc. I think sometimes we forget to just literally sit back and relax!
Tell me: What are some of your favorite recovery tools?

Good point about rest! It’s for free and so effective. I also love walking. It’s so relaxing and good for the body and mental well-being.

Walking is great too! This Winter I want to get out to go walking more often.

I’m like you…I seldom ever sit & just relax. I love my Theragun mini; I use it all the time. Although I foam roll more than I used to, I roll-fess that I do t do it as often as I should. My bad…
kookyrunner says
I really need to foam roll more. I can always tell when I am slacking!
Darlene says
I do love my massage gun. But even with that I’m my lax.
It’s not an official tool but walking rather than running is great for recovery.
And debriefing your races or hard runs with friends. Near and far.

Walking is a great way to recover from a race or a hard workout!

I love that you included rest as a recovery tool. It’s probably the most overlooked thing in our recovery toolbox! We got our son and d-i-l a TheraGun for Christmas and they love it. I have the RumbaRoller (the roller with the nubs on it) and it hurts when I use it, but works the muscles really well.

I 100% agree! I feel like as a society we are always go go go, we often don’t rest enough. It’s a problem!
Jenny says
Ha ha… I like how you call the foam roller your least favorite recovery tool. Yes, I use it grudgingly- it’s not usually a lot of fun! I don’t have a theragun yet but it’s on my Christmas list!
kookyrunner says
I always hate to use the fam roller but it’s a necessary evil lol
Shathiso says
I love the point Darlene makes about walking – it’s not a tool as such but I find its great for recovery. My foam roller is most definitely my most hated recovery tool and yet it does wonders (when I use it!)
kookyrunner says
Totally agree! I often forget how great walking can be for recovery.
Deborah Brooks says
These are all on my list as well. I do love a good Epsom salt bath post long run especially on a chilly day

My massage gun has become my favorite go to for recovery. And I agree with Darlene and Shathiso, walking is a great option too!
kookyrunner says
I’m always so thankful for my massage gun!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I know I should foam roll but I dislike it. It is my least favorite. The massage gun is definitely my favorite!
kookyrunner says
I also prefer the massage gun vs the foam roller, even though both hurt, lol.
